The frets will have sharp edges on the cheaper stuff but they are also the same medium frets, probably the same supplier. I guess I will watch and find out. You made it sound nicer than other videos I've seen. Even the clean sounds have a little grit in them on certain pickups. All its specs point to me that it’ll be a great tool and a configurable guitar to play, the neck has been complemented by a couple of reputable reviews as a great shape and feel and I don’t mind it being ceramic pickups and a poplar body, I just really think it’s a good model worth taking a chance at.

    • @mikethebloodthirsty

      You'll be paying about +150 for a decal, fender were pumping out alder bodied squires at certain periods, most notably between 95 and 98... And rosewood fretboards. If they could do that with their ULTRA budget range back then?... Well, I understand times have changed, but it actually feels like you're paying for branding. It should have been released as a squire elite or something, but they couldn't have justified the price, so they had to stick a fender logo on it. Old used mexicans are cheaper and will hold their value better than these

    • @chavito305
      @chavito305 4 дні тому +1

      @ I hear you, I do but I don’t see it as that ; not one bit. The wood being Poplar isn’t going to change a thing for me, the pickups being ceramic is also what the MIM models had…again it isn’t going to deter its abilities on being a good instrument, what matters is if it works. The neck is what sold me. The price being “arguable” is something worth looking at. Me and You are both looking at this at angles that bring up a discussion worth having so that’s cool. If an Olympic White Standard Tele is at my nearest store I will be walking out with it or Sweetwater can be of help with said purchase.

I find this model and its specs to be inviting and worth checking out, it’s a guitar I wouldn’t have an issue owning and lending to a friend or family member because of its inexpensive traits. Hot Take: This is to move assets to Indonesia to EVENTUALLY replace the Mexican factory for political climate reasons (tariffs) and to eventually stop production on the Players and possibly switch the factories over from the Squier stuff so people eventually will just buy the higher end product.

    At last someone making the comparison to the affinity not classic vibe. Very sensible. Vintera series is probably the correct comparison to CV. Having played these they are a build upgrade to the squiers. The pickups are pretty weak. I like the affinity pickups more, particularly with gain. But this has full size body, decent pots and I like the brushed saddles and the neck is fantastic. I agree the player ii is a better buy but costs more. If you are happy to swap the pickups and perhaps the switch, then this is a really good guitar. Great, sensible review. Thank you.

      Yeh I agree totally, at some point you have to say what is a fender?, for me once you start deviating from the original woods, then that's one point against it... If far far cheaper copies can use alder then fender should be doing that. It's like in England we have Dr Martens shoes that are now made in China out of inferior materials, to me they are NOT Dr Martens... This is just a rebadged squire.

    • @MegaRomans01
      @MegaRomans01 3 дні тому

      @GetOffset I meant the price being 80 cheaper if it was presented as a squier pro. A new fender being 600 is not too much to ask i dont think. I don't feel like this model should have been presented as a fender though. This is based on my idea that It might sell better initially because of branding and have mid sales later and be easy for dealers to sale to newbies. On the flip side, I feel a squier pro same specs would have had a hype train in the community vs a hate train that could have sustained the line with above average sales for years. I mean Alternatively a person could buy this fender find out they like a mim or Mia way better and make multiple purchases in the line instead of being stuck in a squier is good enough for me mindset i think people have pride in. No matter how you view the way this guitar should have been branded. I think everyone agrees that dividing consumers in a niche space is never a great thing and is really annoying no matter if you like it or hate it. Lol

    Right before the end of the year Fender had blow out sales on the Squier Contemporary Strats. I got one for 270ish and figured I'd use it as a modding platform because I love the metallic sky burst blue color. Honestly though, only thing it needs is shorter saddle screws, because once I set the neck and action the bridge unfortunately became a cheese grater on my hand. The pickups and electronics are perfectly fine. I just can't see stepping up to this Standard series, I just don't see the value, I'd definitely go G&L or Sire at the price point or just get a slightly used or dinged Player 2. The Squier line is damn good is all I know, I think price and feature creep is probably more warranted with that lineup than with proper Fenders. I know people have cried havoc about Epiphone prices but they have damn good guitars for the money that arent the pricey signatures. Personally (selfishly), I would prefer to see a tier up Squier, especially with the contemporary stuff but that's risky, that's sadly way less in demand than the same ol', same ol', which is still what people want. Folks upset at the value proposition, I totally understand that and agree but folks blaming Fender's greed.. hey they make what their customers want and they're going to keep trying to make it for as cheap as possible to save costs. If you want them to change, buy the competition. I have a feeling these are going to sell well.

    Fenders should be made by fender. None of this fender licensed to make in a cheaper factory with cheaper parts, by fender. They just used squier made parts for it. Its where the outcries lie. If fender made these in mexico, I would have no issues with it, as long as its is genuine fender parts. Fender loves to brand themselves as genuine, and these Indonesian fenders aren't genuine in any way.
    They should have just called it a squier standard instead. I would be totally fine with that that. Because it seems like the inflated pricetag is mostly reflective of its headstock logo, even then it looks lowend.

    Complete cash grab from Fender, disappointed in these guitars, I don’t care that they are made in Indonesia, just put some soul into them, and give your customers quality for $599. These guitars if I had to guess cost fender about $65 to build so where is all that overhead going, you guessed it, in there pockets. Do yourself a favor research what is out there for that money. You can easily grab a Fender player or player 2 that’s basically brand new on reverb for $600 all day long. Take care.

    UA-cam infomercial makers are now facing some backlash from the guitar general public about these guitars for the simple reason that they are a poor value and have underwhelming at best features for the price
    UA-cam influencers/infomercial makers are now going to have to face the reality that the bulk of their audience is in the situation of prices on everything continue to go up yet wages have remained stagnant or have gone down- this isnt something that can be ignored anymore
    Everyone knows for $600 USD you can get an excellent used Fender with better features that is better made, or you can get a new guitar from many makers that has dramatically better features and is made better
    In Canada these Standards are $839 which is *absurd*-$964 all in
    Paying $964 CAD for this is a complete and total waste of money and you’d feel like a fool

    • @Lomoholga2
      @Lomoholga2 4 дні тому

      @ I don’t know if you *personally* are, but people on various guitar forums etc are pointing out the revealing and obvious difference in opinion from many in the public who view the Standard as a cynical corporate move by Fender- a cheaply made guitar with zero exciting features for $600 USD and the UA-cam infomercial channels who simply don’t point this reality out as a strong negative
      It is becoming increasingly more difficult for the public to ‘trust’ (lol) guitar UA-cam channels when they gloss over what the public sees as a significant con to the guitar- overpriced and underwhelming guitar with the fender logo.
      In the other hand people are doing their channels for money and that’s perfectly fine!
      But I think it’s obvious there is a significant barrier for someone who gets free gear or gear to review and return to say “yeah…Fender isn’t offering you anything at all worthwhile in this Standard model for $600 other than the sticker. It is a very bad value”
      We see this divide between the public and UA-camrs with numerous models- the Jaguar models with eliminated features (so ‘modern’! lol), Epiphones models raising prices etc etc

    • @GetOffset
      @GetOffset  4 дні тому

      I don't know why every guitar has to be exciting to every person.
      This is a budget guitar with a very good neck. I say in the video its audiences are younger guitarists who really want a Fender, and people who were maybe looking at a more expensive guitar but already know they're going to mod the shit out of it.

    • @Lomoholga2
      @Lomoholga2 4 дні тому +1

      @@GetOffset perhaps ‘exciting’ isn’t the best word.
      It is a bad value guitar- the public knows it.
      Does a four-piece body make any difference to the sound? Of course not.
      Do the ceramic pickups sound good? It’s subjective but sure they are fine.
      Those things and other things are done because they are *cheaper* for Fender to do.
      It doesn’t have the perception of quality and instead gives off the impression of some late-stage capitalism of taking advantage of your market based on the strength of your name brand.

    Guitarists are dumb. Sorry, but it’s true. These are made in the same Cor-Tek factory as a lot of other guitars. It’s a $600 guitar.
    People routinely buy Squiers and put Fender logos on them. They only care about the name.
    US made Fenders are not automatically better.
    The tuners are either Ping or Gotoh.
    Poplar is a great wood for bodies. Multiple pieces don’t matter.
    I’m a pickup maker and alnico magnets aren’t automatically better. Everyone seems to love gold foils these days, a those are ceramic magnets.

Heritage brands are focusing on catering to the rich, and paying and fortune for a playable guitar is for all intense, and purposes... Obsolete... In the end, people hear with their ears. 3 to 4 pieces of wood for the body, poplar instead of alder, Indian laurel instead of rosewood, ceramic pickups instead of alnico, and on the teles for some reason, it’s a pcb switch? I don’t care if it said Fender or Squier, $600 is too much for that quality of guitar. Also at that price point, I shouldn’t have to mod my guitar to make it sound decent.
