Parkway drive is different, yes. And PWD is my favorite metalcore band. But they changed..and my taste of music in the genre of metal/hardcore changed as well. When i wanna hear brutal breakdowns --> Breakdown of Sanity

I like PWD a lot, but speaking about breakdowns... BoS is #1 in the world (for me at least).

They have much better intense breakdowns than PD. They are Gods of this genre, Parkway is very very good though

For me BoS is the best band from Switzerland and Parkway Drive is the best band from Australia... But they are very different to compare.
how do bass drops work?
Almost every big Metal or any of the many sub genres, use drum triggers. Most bands in general. Even if it seems natural it is all how you program the unit. They can sound as mechanic or natural as they want. Roland makes the system same thing used on electronic drums. The triggers clip on the drum. To get that exact same hit every time and to get that click.
