    While most "unboxing reviews" are over hyped bs "reviews"...yours, are TOTALLY real and amazing!!! Honestly, watching your review, I could imagine myself critiquing the product that I just bought...but never bothered to create a video about, as that is a lot of work! So, THANK YOU for this review! BTW, I LOVE your review style. Totally in depth and un-biased.The level of detail you go into in your review is amazing.

    No..i like the sound of the electric violin but it's really cheap made. It reminds me of my first acoustic violin, in the sane priece and all... even the bow you show n the video it had the same problem like the one i had.I was begginer back then but still I didn't like how it is. Anyways great video really helpful. :)

    Loved the unboxing! I really like how you take your time and don't rush through it. Reminds me of how I am! I want to look and inspect every inch of it cause I get so excited about what I order. Also people telling you to rip out the hair are wrong. Sure you can do it and it won't seem like a big problem at the moment but if you use the bow more hairs will star falling out cause it get loose at the tip, so good thinking for clipping them! Hope you enjoy your violin! 🤗

    The sound of the violin will keep playing because you more than likely have it plugged into your guitar amp, which is designed to do so. An actual violin amp is designed to actual play and display a sound just like an acoustic violin would.

    I have a Cecillio acoustic violin I purchased about 4 years ago for $400. I still use the original bows that came with it. I have a carbon fiber bow I later bought for approx. $100. I find myself going back to the original bow because of the weight and feel. The original resin that came with it is good too. One of the original bows is sort of marginal in quality, the other is tops. (BTW I would use a top quality coppertop DURACELL battery because of the possibility of leakage. A leaking battery could ruin your clothes and instrument.)

    • @DavidLinn
      @DavidLinn  6 років тому +1

      good to take note of. i just checked the battery it came with, it's a little tiny bit swollen, but it might just be designe that way. i'll keep the durecell idea for next time.

    I have a Cecilio acoustic violin and am considering the purchase of an electric for the purpose of quieter practicing.
    I would have liked to hear your violin unplugged from the amp. Anyway, good job.
    By the way, when you were showing us your acoustic and the electric violins at the same time, I thought the colors of the two were very complimentary of each other. My acoustic is purple and I will be purchasing a black electric (or possibly white if they have it. Decisions, decisions!

    FYI: Integrated fine tuners are not necessarily higher quality. They are simply a different type. The fine tuners on your violin carry the advantage of being able to remove them and thereby reduce weight. Integrated fine tuners are for beginner violins and are also not intended to be on your violin forever...but to remove them means you will be changing the tail piece.

      Most reviews on youtube feature over hyped people shouting every pre-scripted line. This review was a REAL review...that seemed to be done on the fly, with no script or pretense. Therefore I trust this more. People have just been conditioned by media to expect that every presenter/person on camera is to be "energetic"/"enthusiastic". However, I prefer, chill and thoughtful presenters, like David Linn, rather than "energetic"/"enthusiastic" presenters who sometimes skew the review.... (e.g. Crap product w/ "hype" presenter can sometimes make a bad product look good....which is not a good result). @david linn: Your review kind of reminds me of "Project Farm"'s reviews...low key presentation...but ultra high quality delivery!!!

    • @DavidLinn
      @DavidLinn  4 роки тому +1

      @@RockstarRaverBoy it WAS on the fly. i had written nothing out. i didn't even have any bulletpoints in my head or written down. i was not paid, asked, or trying to sell anything. i think i may have seen a couple unboxings of it before, but i wanted the viewer to experience my unboxing of my violin with me. i'm not gonna be all excited and say "it's the best thing EVER!" because i know it's not. there are far better violins. i told you what i really thought of it. i have a reputation for my blunt honesty. actually, i wouldn't mind doing reviews of good products because even being paid, i would still tell you if i think a feature is crap. i will not accept $200,000 to lie to you about a bad feature.

    I just got my electric violin from the mail 2 days ago. Yours look the same as mine except it glossy black. It cheap material, I am in the same situation as you are in now. My supplied Rosin was in broken in 3 pieces when it arrived. I had to vacuum the case and wipe down the whole violin and bow. This was my first violin, I never even held one before. I had to use the headphones borrowed from my Yamaha Stagea organ, the violin's was crappy. I only played a violin before using a state of the art organ which has 12 different variants of violin type. I am a beginner and just started learning 2 days ago. I anticipated that my Rosin might come in pieces, so I purchased 2 better cakes of black Rosin from some other sellers. I paid USD 81 dollars, but for that price, I shouldn't expect much.

    Really glad he is just opening it . So my question is with headphones is it truly silent or its never really silent like a n sythnseizer which has no strings ? Your video really helped me figure out what to do before I got my amp(that cost more than the violin .I didn't know I could get a pickup for my old German violin but I still don't know what a pickup is yet .) Was really glad you made your video just as you did! I'm wondering if better strings give different sound or if one is stuck with the hardbody sound . I have two more expensive bows so when I get them rehaired I'll know more .

    • @DavidLinn
      @DavidLinn  4 роки тому +3

      whether you play it with headphones plugged in or no headphones at all, the strings will make the same volume unless they're muted (as demonstrated in the video.
      a pickup is a piece of metal (usually a magnet) with copper wire wrapped around it many times. electric guitar pickups are wrapped in copper wire as thin as a human hair or even thinner! tens to hundreds of times. the steel string of the guitar vibrates so fast over the wire-magnet combination that it generates a small current which is received by the amp as an electrical signal of a certain amplitude and relayed into sound whos tone corresponds with that amplitude. the violin works the same way but instead of the string generating an electromagnetic signal through rapid movement, it generates a vibration that vibrates the bridge, the bridge vibrates the plastic attached to the pickup, and it works i'm guessing the same way from there.
      better string will give you a better sound. i'm no longer familiar on electric violin strings as i once was. look for violin strings that are specifically made for electric violins. that's about all i can help you with that question.
      when it comes to bows it's really just your preference really. the bow that you like to hold that gives you the sound you like, you should use that one. personally i like the higher quality bow that came with my acoustic violin because everything about it says "i'm higher quality than that bow that came with your electric violin!", so i use it! it just feels better.

      If you pull off a bow hair, it will leave a gap in the wood "plugs” holding each hair in place at the frog/tip, which typically makes other hairs fall out. You should either cut them (with scissors) or use the ferruel/tip to “cut” the hair. So no, never simply “yank” out a hair!

      with this particular model, everyone will hear it if no one is talking and nothing is on. but without an amplifier, it does not sound "good". you don't need a big amplifier. just get a 6 foot aux cable and hook it up to a small portable speaker. that's all it needs. but if want good sound, look at a different violin. this does not sound good. this is for if you're desperate for an electric violin and you have almost no money.

    I'm mortified right now. There IS an exact science to bridge placement. Loosen up your bow hair. About a 1/4 at the closest point between the hair and the stick. If the paint is thick enough to hide the grain, it will kill the resonance. Not all resins are the same at any level. Better violins, better resins, better bows make it easier to play. The better the equipment, the better the sound. The better the sound, the easier it is for you, the beginner, to become better. Cant race a pinto in the Indianapolis 500. If you find out how a bow is rehaired, you will understand why you never pull the hair from the bow. Keep fingernail clippers in your case. Cant play with long nails and they cut hair.
    Good luck with everything you do.

    My violin teacher told me that the metal microtuners (I'm not sure if that's the word, this is my second language) are better than the plastic ones, because if one of the plastic ones brokes or stop working, you'll need to change the whole piece, I mean, the four microtuners and the base, but if one of the metal ones stop working, you'll just have to change that one, because they are individual pieces. Anyway, I liked your video so much. If I'm wrong, please let me know.

    • @DavidLinn
      @DavidLinn  6 років тому +1

      he's right. the metal ones are far more durable than the plastic ones. and that rule is universal with everything since metal is stronger than plastic. but integrated fine tuners (like what my acoustic violin has) are better than "freestanding" tuners. beginners (or even intermediates) won't pickup the sound difference, but integrated tuners do have better sound. and it's always upgradable. you can take the cheapest violin and put different fine tuners on it. for a beginner, when it comes to fine tuners, just go with whatever you like pretty much.

      depends. if all you want is a violin to play, good price. if you want a good violin, it's probably not going to be high enough quality. if you got it on sale for like 50% off, it's decent. i got mine for $120 full price and it sounds horrible when not amplified, but it fits my needs because all i wanted was a violin i could practice with silently.

      And 4 years later, do you use it? I just got one so that I can practice without disturbing others. I’ve been reading/watching reviews and it’s been a mixed bag. For the price, you get what you paid for, but again it’s not my main violin and only plan to practice on if I want to do so at night without waking up neighbors.

    • @DavidLinn
      @DavidLinn  4 роки тому +2

      oh no, the violin very much makes sound. but if you wanna rock out and have a bedroom concert, put on the headphones and the room next to you probably won't be disturbed while you'll be enjoying volume as loud as your headphones will go. if you play it without amplification, you do stand a good chance of waking someone if they are sleeping in the same room.

    How tight should I turn the knob for the bow?

    • @DavidLinn
      @DavidLinn  5 років тому +2

      tight enough that you can fit anything from a pencil to your fingertip between the strings and the middle of the bow. there's pros and cons to each, but it's mostly a matter of personal preference. i'll also add that it's very important to tighten it enough that all the hairs are barely straight and taut. that's the minimum. and never let your bow get so tight that it's straight. it's supposed to have at least a slight curve. this acts as a sort of shock absorber when your hairs land on the string. the tighter it is, the harder it is on the hairs.

    Hey David, very detailed video. Have you tried using the headphone jack? If you had used it, does it still making sound outside the headphone? Kinda interested to buy this violin.

    • @DavidLinn
      @DavidLinn  6 років тому +1

      Yes, the vibration of the string makes it's own sound as demonstrated in the video with or without the headphones plugged in. i JUST tested the violin with headphones in and at max volume with the violin turned on, it made a sound in the headphones that was about three times the volume of the sound the strings make by themselves without being amplified. take note that the headphones i used had no separate volume control. if you used battery powered headphones with volume control, you could probably easily make the volume 10x louder. the quality of the sound through the headphone jack will vary with each pair of headphones.

      David Linn your video was great. Informative and entertaining. Some people are negative because well, frankly I don't know. I agree with you that in terms of a metallic paint finish I would not be pleased with seeing woodgrain. If I wanted grain I'd have chosen a traditional style with a stained finish. I'll be purchasing this soon and passing on my older violin to my daughter. Best wishes and good luck with your music studies

      no. you can take any pair of headphones and plug them into the bottom of it as long as it has a 9 volt battery in it. in fact, in theory i thing you can take regular computer speakers and plug them in it without a problem.

      online. music stores only sell quality stuff. so if you're looking for a $700 yamaha, go into a music store. but cecilio is pretty cheap, so you'll have to find that on ebay or amazon. I got mine here: www.amazon.com/Cecilio-CEVN-2BL-Metallic-Electric-Fittings/dp/B003F1PRFO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1511637220&sr=8-2&keywords=cecilio+electric+violin
