Jaguar XJ Manual Heater/Air conditioning control 2022

A new version of the manual heater control has arrived. Based on the same circuit as previous boards, the new board has been reduced in size and now fits into an included case. Thanks to a fellow Jaguar enthusiast for taking the time to create this new version.
As before this board works with Series II and Series III Jaguar XJ6/12. It also works with any XJS that has the mechanical servo system.
It is "manual" in the sense that it will not attempt to keep the interior at a set temperature. As in the video, moving the Temp control will operate the servo manually. The servo will follow the Temp control knob from full hot to full cold or anywhere in between. For example, it you set the Temp to 75 you will have a mix of hot and cold with med fan speed. Setting it closer to 65 will move the mix more toward cooler temps and faster fan speeds. It is fully linear between 65 and 85 and the servo will move to change the temperature mix and fan speeds as you move the control.

Hi I purchased your manual heater controller a while back and only now installing it. My question is do the in-car sensor and the Ambient sensor need to be connected for the controller to work or can they be bypassed? thanks Dean

Hi Dean, sensors will still be in the circuit but will not noticeably effect the way it works, so you do not need to disconnect them.

Looks great! I noticed the red light didn't go out when driving all the way to the hot side... Does the servo have some kind of 'auto off' mechanism when it reaches the end of its rotation, to prevent burn out? Thanks

The servo has limit switches for both hot and cold that stop it's motor. I purposely drive the servo to the limit to be sure that the system runs over it's full range.

Just out of curiosity -- how is it able to reverse direction with the limit switch open? Is additional electronic control required to close the switch after the limit has been reached? Thanks

@@jonnol-r8574 There are steering diodes in the servo, wired to the the limit switches, that allow power to run one way and not the other.
