The quality and curiosity in which you create your videos is an art lost on most content creators and I’ll always keep coming back in hope of a new video about the unbelievable and mysterious.
I've studied this story for so long it's so fascinating to me. I remember watching an unsolved mysteries episode with this case when I was 8 and have been obsessed ever since. I also think Mary was a serious suspect no one looked at
Rewatching all these old videos and we told you it'd be just a matter of time until you're over a million subs. Way to go HeckleFish and A.J! I'm SUPER HAPPY for you! :)
The first letter read points to the fact that the letter writer’s girlfriend was another one of the bus drivers. “according to my gf you have asked her out many times AND HAVE ASKED THE OTHER FEMALE BUS DRIVERS TOO…” That’s a pretty substantial clue.
It could also point to Mary Gillispie who wanted to break up the superintendents marriage and have him for herself. She could have written the letters to herself, she could have tampered with the car and placed the threatening call to her her husband, and she could have placed the gun behind the sign, that she conveniently found. Just sayin’…
I just watched my first WF video today and have now binge-watched five or six episodes. Subject matter is squarely in my wheelhouse. Having read some previous comments, I cannot agree more. Writing, presentation and production value are all exceptional, especially when compared to other channels covering similar material. I appreciate the unique approach to these subjects. Please keep up the top-notch work.
This is one of my favorite mysteries I've watched 20 some different people cover. It glad to see you cover it. I'd love to see your take on the Somerton man one of the most baffling mysteries.
I had seen and heard about this so much, I avoided watching your video on it. *Big* mistake. You offer a clear headed, fresh take on this, and look at it with a sense of empathy. Your closing remarks were especially appreciated. You bring a great voice to what others just use to get clicks. Kudos to you.
The strange handwriting was done in "Block Style," to make it nearly impossible to do handwriting analysis. Block letters cannot be shown to belong to any one person. Thus the disparity. A good lawyer would have had that evidence struck down.
Oh, by the way, I have to ask -- why didn't anyone INVESTIGATE HIM?? Did anyone check to see if he was having sex parties, or having his kids etc., have sex parties?? That too is part of that trashy CIA gig. And there's way more to this than just his sex parties.
From everything I've read it wasn't all block type writing though. Some show, I think 60 minutes hired a forensic expert and had her look a Paul freshours handwriting from letters sent to friends and things like that and compare them to 49 of the anonymous letters and she said in her opinion without a doubt it was him. Also they supposedly found his fingerprints on about a dozen of the letters that were sent.
Nailed it on the closing. The pain we cause ourselves or others, no Court can ever remedy that. Why it's so important to be patient and kind to others...and ourselves.
I live around Circleville and can say that this is a story that gets passed around from time to time. I actually went to Westfall School district. My Mom had told me she had received a letter when this had been going on. She doesn't have it anymore and I myself have no proof of it's existence. However this is something I've been looking for more info on. Thank you for the post!
I love and am addicted to this channel! The stories are well-researched and well-explained, and the sprinkle of interjections of Hecklefish's humor keeps it from being just a dissertation of facts! I especially like that the possible truth of the story comes at the end, so the listener can get caught up in the story before finding out if it was debunked or not! Awesome job AJ and HF!
Oh my. This one was soooo good. It kept me on the edge of my chair with all the twists, turns and surprises. Very, very well presented!! Your videos really draw the listener in. Love it. Keep it up A.J.! You’ve got the best content out there.
I absolutely LOVE this channel! I love your videos. This was covered by Unsolved Mysteries years ago. Like I’ve said before, your show is the baby of Rod Sterling’s Twilight Zone and Unsolved Mysteries.
I drove big trucks, too & remember going through Circleville a few times & thinking what a strange name for a city. I think there's a Townville in PA. That's even more weird a name. With so many clues available, I can't understand why it was never solved. Terrible police work, prosecuted on such flimsy evidence & kept in prison when letters kept coming.
Circleville was named after a big round Indian mound that they built the town around. They finally bulldozed the mound and squared and made straight streets. Only one building still stands from the circle.
Absolutely love the channel, spend most the day listening to your stories an they're great even though some seem boring you always spice them up just right! Thank you for all the hard work

It's so weird for me to come across something like this. I live in Circleville and nothing ever happens here. I've lived here most of my life, I'm 40 now and I don't remember any of this, but I asked my mom about it and she does. I was born in 1982 so it was before my time, but I've never even heard anything about this.
Really?? I’m surprised so many ppl in the comments haven’t heard of this. I’ve seen it covered on multiple channels (although this is the best analysis IMO) but I first saw it on Unsolved Mysteries
I'm from Jamestown, just outside of Xenia...I know several older people who lived in circleville at the time....they got letters...most of them still have them. 1 of them was threatened in his letter and he did exactly what the letter said to him and he CLAIMS he never got another letter, however his wife says that he got another letter thanking him for "doing the right thing"
Fascinating story well-told. Having lived in a village and attended school in a town, I wonder how it can be, no-one saw the signs being put-up. Also, kudos to the person who caught-on to the typewriter-ribbon aspect of the letters.
I found this channel about 2 weeks ago, and I am addicted. Amazing, professional, and entertaining as all get out. I cannot wait to watch this channel get the recognition you deserve. My husband and brothers are now hooked, and my best friend is tired of me sending him links to your vids. Already in my top 5 favorite UA-camrs. Thank you for your hard work.
This is the third time I have heard this. I love your version. Yours is so far the best out there. You have more details. The overall presentation was just perfect 👌. I am glad I came across your channel.
I think the person who wrote the letter had to have worked for the school district.Either a bus driver, maintance man or some else. They should have gone to the cops and sentbthe letters to the FBI.The people who received the letters that is.
I love the channel and my husband (who’s a truck driver) and I thought the Hecklefish part was hilarious. I respectfully disagree that a resolution to this mystery shouldn’t be sought however. A man was possibly wrongfully convicted and imprisoned and someone was almost murdered. This means a would-be killer is still possibly on the loose.
And it sounds like there was probably one suicide as a result, too. I agree. This is an extremely serious matter that should be investigated thoroughly.
Most likely it was the principal’s wife. She found out about the affair and decided to get back by exposing it to the public. That way her husband would be forced to resign due to the affair and he would pay her alimony once they got divorced. This is why you shouldn’t cheat on your significant other: karma bites you back hard. I wonder why the police never thought to investigate her. She would certainly have motive to write the letters plus pinning the blame on someone else for the blackmailing (that what this was, blackmail) would make her look like an innocent victim.
Excellent production - so many fine little sounds added and swipes at just the right time. Really exceptional work and quality - comedy with the fish is awesome and actually funny

I have heard all of these stories before……Madman Mike and his Time Machine , the Circleville letter writer, Rendlesham Forest. Every podcast and mystery show does these subjects eventually. Most of time they end up being background noise as I get distracted and I end up getting the broad strokes but generally losing interest. But the way you tell the stories is something special, everything else becomes the background noise as I can’t break my attention from the videos. Keep it up man, good stuff.

I came across your channel a few weeks ago and have now watched all the content your channel has to offer. I was instantly hooked and couldn’t get enough.
lol hecklefish is awesome
@@RobotronSagedo you think the why files guy does heckles voice?
The first letter read points to the fact that the letter writer’s girlfriend was another one of the bus drivers. “according to my gf you have asked her out many times AND HAVE ASKED THE OTHER FEMALE BUS DRIVERS TOO…”
That’s a pretty substantial clue.
It could also point to Mary Gillispie who wanted to break up the superintendents marriage and have him for herself. She could have written the letters to herself, she could have tampered with the car and placed the threatening call to her her husband, and she could have placed the gun behind the sign, that she conveniently found.
Just sayin’…
women call their female plutonic friends "girlfriend."
Not if it was a lie.
Getta new Mic? Love Y’all’s work. Thank You Both!!
@DieterDuplak314 same thing really, women are never really friends with women, they all hate each other.
Thanks! You really do great work on your channel. Its a pleasure to watch
You're very welcome, Mario! I appreciate you watching. And thank you so much for the tip! Very generous of you. 🙏
I don't agree with them. The guilty party should be found, the only reason he or she wasn't was because the law was corrupt in suppressing evidence.
The strange handwriting was done in "Block Style," to make it nearly impossible to do handwriting analysis. Block letters cannot be shown to belong to any one person. Thus the disparity. A good lawyer would have had that evidence struck down.
A Police Officer in a highly significant position is the major culprit, and that goon is who put together the gang.
@@dudleydoright3398 I could be convinced, but I am unaware of any motive he would have. Do you know of one?
@@perryshaffer8358 Yes. Will get back w/you.
Since finding this wonderful channel, it has become my # 1 go to channel!
Thanks sooooooooooooo much, extremely entertaining!!! I’m hooked!
The real question is, are Figs worthy of plunder?
There are some really good ones. Look all the way back.
She tell you what it said? Or is it too salacious in detail?
I suspect that you're telling a tall tale Pinocchio.
I imagine a lot of people in the area did receive prank letters.
I just google'd it and seems to be lots of information on this subject there.
What year did u graduate ? Me, 1980.
I stumbled across this channel and now I am hooked . I learned more here then I have in all my time in school
Finally got a day off, now to sit and binge this channel once more! Absolutely love the content, hopefully one day the algorithm will agree!
Love the touch of humanity at the end. You've got a sharp mind and a big heart 🙏
I love this channel, this channel always keep me clam with everything you make, thanks for all your doing.❤️
It makes me clam too I thought I was the only one
Oh my. This one was soooo good. It kept me on the edge of my chair with all the twists, turns and surprises. Very, very well presented!! Your videos really draw the listener in. Love it. Keep it up A.J.! You’ve got the best content out there.
I love the Why Files ! I just started watching them about a month ago. OMG I am so hooked. Think I'm going to become a patron
Yep. If a small town can do this, Imagine how hard it is to defend the J6 protesters
@@Greg-yu4ij You mean the insurrectionists? The domestic terrorists who attempted a hostile takeover?
Circleville. Where you race cars in a circle. Genuinely all there is.
Circleville was named after a big round Indian mound that they built the town around. They finally bulldozed the mound and squared and made straight streets. Only one building still stands from the circle.
@@Derekmartin20 you're right! They even had a commission. The Squaring of Circleville.
I really respect the fact that you give such balanced summations at the end. Thank you.
Absolutely love the channel, spend most the day listening to your stories an they're great even though some seem boring you always spice them up just right! Thank you for all the hard work
2 out of 3 on the D count.
great analyzing as always! this channel is truly top tier and im surprised to see the low number of subs
the stories found, described and analyzed here are just as amazing as the crew!
I see now!.
Through decades I have seen only bits and clips of this.
Thanks for putting it all together!
How are there no villains..? Especially with the trap sign lol that's about as sick, twisted and villainous as you can get
Imagine if some random kid tried to take the sign.
Mostly because it's a small town with no real police worse or good detectives
@@Needler13 still a horrible person who are capable of something like this

Great job as always. This is absolutely one of my favorite channels on any social media platform. Smart, unbiased, analysis delivered with entertaining and insightful commentary. Doesn’t get better than this. My first comment on any platform, hoping to help you defeat the algorithm!
Thanks so much, Ken. I wish everyone in the comments was as nice as you!
The end theme is awesome......gotta love the dancing...and always...heckle fish
Your last thought was your best. Refreshing to see such reasonable empathy.
You've earned yourself a new subscriber, good sir.
I've heard about this Circleville story. Can't wait to see the solution to this decades old mystery.
I wish I could have fully solved this one, Susan.
Hecklefish…my hero. The only goldfish I know with a CDL license, and a depth of understanding on a variety of topics. Nice Job…very enjoyable.
Your content is a breath of fresh air. Thank you..
And know that YOU are appreciated
This mystery has always interested me because I've always felt that there was more to it I also wanna congratulate your channel on becoming as big as you have I remember when you all started so to now having 1 million subscribers it shows hard work pays off wish you continued success
Man this is crazy, I live in Circleville and ive never heard this story. Love this channel.
AJ, your videos are easily many of the very best on UA-cam. My children and I enjoy every single one, and we adore Hecklefish lol.
Keep up the awesome work; you too are very much appreciated!
Thanks for such a great comment, Michael. Tell the younglings that Uncle Heckle says "hi". 🐟❤
Hey AJ and Hecklefish. Ive watched every video of yours and just wanted to tell you that I enjoy each one and I have commented on a lot of them and you have responded back which I appreciate. I wanted to tell you that I have seen a big raise in your subscribers and want you to keep pushing forward I know u will continue to grow. I see you getting 1 million subscribers not long from now.
I'm your need. You hold me in your hand. You know and you have me. I know and don't have you. Do you want me to resent you. I doubt that very much. You couldn't handle that.
I think it was the local catholic priest who heard everyone's confessions.
You've got a really great channel here. I sure am enjoying going through your catalog since discovering your channel recently. I wish much success to you, I sure hope your channel becomes super popular.
With the general reduction in people's attention spans nowadays, I am always pleased at how enthralled I am at all of your videos. Like the other commenters here, your videos are well-researched, well-conveyed and very entertaining.
I have lived in Circleville Ohio and Columbus and Grove City Ohio.
I never really heard of the story before.
Thank you for making this video.
Recently came across your channel and I love it. Keep the great content coming.
P.S. Hecklefish is awesome!
Thank you, David! (PS, thanks for for commenting, which helps us crush the algorithm.) Thrilled you're watching!
Good innit. 👍
Glad I found this channel. Instant fan. Well crafted, good research, good pace, Hecklefish is bananas, and the host has the perfect voice for this type of show. Almost sounds like Casey Kasem. Subscribed!
Dude this became my favorite UA-cam channel after the first episode I watched. I am hooked and watch at least one a day. Please never stop!!
Quite possibly the best channel on YT. Every story is perfect ! Keep up the good work !
Also Mr Ballen. If you like this channel and haven't checked out his.. Definitely do!
Man your videos just get better and better. Thanks for what you do!
I’m like 1.5 hours south of circleville and never knew this! Such a great channel
@@bunnyluver2176 Nope, I had no idea. I've heard of the pharmacy bombing that happened before my time, but not this.
I've seen a lot about it. @mrballen covers it too
I'm not surprised, nobody want to expose their "secrets" to the next generation.
It came a cross my recommendation watch list and now I'm hooked
I found this channel about 2 weeks ago, and I am addicted. Amazing, professional, and entertaining as all get out. I cannot wait to watch this channel get the recognition you deserve. My husband and brothers are now hooked, and my best friend is tired of me sending him links to your vids.
Already in my top 5 favorite UA-camrs. Thank you for your hard work.
Wow. Shaza! I appreciate the comment. Thanks for watching. Tell bro and hubs that Uncle Heckle says hi.
I agree! I just found it today!, I’m addicted! Lol! Really great channel!
I LOVE the big trouble in little china piece of this video, still to this day in my top 3 fav movies
Love the amount of work you put into your videos! Your channel will grow in no time!
KillerS
Most likely it was the principal’s wife. She found out about the affair and decided to get back by exposing it to the public. That way her husband would be forced to resign due to the affair and he would pay her alimony once they got divorced. This is why you shouldn’t cheat on your significant other: karma bites you back hard. I wonder why the police never thought to investigate her. She would certainly have motive to write the letters plus pinning the blame on someone else for the blackmailing (that what this was, blackmail) would make her look like an innocent victim.
Miranda why force someone to lose their job if you want to collect alimony from them.
@@OneOut1 Simple: payback.
This is a mystery that probably will never be solved. Great story telling. Love this website.
Excellent production - so many fine little sounds added and swipes at just the right time. Really exceptional work and quality - comedy with the fish is awesome and actually funny

I remember watching this story on unsolved mysteries hosted by Robert stacks, and always wondered if it would get solved.
Good show! It was creepy AF!
@@archstanton4365 definitely a great show and yes very creepy.

It never will since theyre probably dead already whoever did it
Brilliant video as always AJ!! Your storytelling style is so gripping I watched it all in one go!! Keep up the good work man!! Wishing all the success!
This was such a great story and the wrap-up was excellent.
Another awesome video, guys! I know I say it frequently, but really enjoy the humor, the delivery of the information and the fact you do some damn good research. Thanks for all you do, we'll all help break you guys out of this algorithm slump! You and Sir Hecklefish esq. have yourselves a great day.
I'm so glad you're out there, Wrath. Thanks for being so supportive.
If I wasn't already subscribed, I would have done so just for the Big Trouble In Little China reference. My favorite movie.

You always produce the most amazing videos. Thanks, A.J. and keep up the great work!
Thanks for watching and commenting, Tall! Glad you're out there.
Death to the evil algorithm but more power to The Why files! Another great contribution to human knowledge from AJ and the wonderful Hecklefish! Although I am no fan of "Celebrity Culture" I am seriously thinking of starting up a Hecklefish fan club!
