I've had 3 Gran Turismos but this is the first time I've seen this ad. So much sportier than the others and I would love driving mine on twisty canyon roads.
Studebaker started out making the Conestoga type wagons and carriages and such. Long before people started putting motors in them. Many of those heading west on the Oregon Trail were in a Studebaker. It was a loss of history when they folded. Heard they were still making them in Canada for a time afterward. I remember seeing one with the Canadian plates on it years after they'd ceased production in the U.S.
So Studebakers ended their production run in the US in 1963 and Canada in 1966. There are still quite a few on the road today thanks to groups like the Studebaker Drivers Club. Studebaker, as far as we can tell, never made Conestoga type wagons, but there regular farm wagons were a fixture of westward expansion.
Just an absolute awesome car, the likes of just is not built today. To borrow some words from years ago. "The New Studebaker GT Hawk" When you care enough to build the very best. When Sherwood left, so pretty much did the life of the company.
I like them both ! Tuff having to compete with, a Caddy, Lincoln, T-bird ! All nice cars . It’s been along time since I have seen a Hawk ! They made a 289 Super charged version to. That’s the one I’d want 4sp , fun car .
I'm surprised that the T-Bird was included instead of the Imperial, as they were luxury makes. Besides, it should have been advertised against the Corvette and T-Bird, which were sporty cars.
I'm waiting for a radical upgrade resto-mod to be made of one of these. It deserves to be given the most tasteful modern safety upgrades and brought into the class of car that it deserves. Kindig-It Design or Pur Sang could make this a genuine premium car.
Really, the only domestic car of its kind at that time. The competitor cars shown in the commercials are jumbo luxury sedans. Even the T-Bird had grown large. If you wanted something more trim in size with some European sports car flair. The Studebaker was pretty much it:
If a '53 Studebaker Champion drove by you today you would think it was a new model car that you had never seen before. Rated by some as one of the Worlds most important shapes. Including me as I had one once,!...............
All the vehicles were nice, but the Cadillac wins that challenge. It is the only thing in the commercial that is not in white. Caddy is always the stand out.
Hate to tell you this, but the "grunge look" has always existed to varying degrees. The greasers of this time, for example, were exactly that. The subject Studebaker is a very nice car though, with styling of a caliber that you would have to pay much more for in a European number.
Well, at least grunge was the exception and not the rule in that era. I miss the days of my childhood when people dressed up, even if you were going to the movies, or downtown for the day. Of course, what is downtown anymore?
By 1962, the 300s styling had mutated into a veritable sow's ear. There's good reason why Chrysler gave Exner the boot the following year. There was also only one Ford. The other two were a Lincoln and a Cadillac respectively.
Besides the fact that this is a Studebaker ad, the GT Hawk was never a competitor for the Corvette. Never meant to be. It was firmly in the T-bird's wheelhouse.
..... Dang ... All I needed back in the day was a nice GT Hawk ? And I could have picked up thousands of beautiful women ? ... Darn, let me just jump into my time machine and jump back several decades, and try my luck !!! 🤔 ..... 😵💫 ..... 🧐 ..... 😁 ..... 🇺🇸 .....
Unbiased opinion. The Studebaker looked better than the other 3 cars.
What a great commercial! I wish Studebaker was still building cars and trucks.
They were magnificent cars.
I agree they were built in my city till 1966
I’ve still got my 60 Lark, but my first car, back in 1975, was a black 62 GT Hawk.
Yea right!!! She woulda been in that Caddy in a heartbeat! 😆
My granny had one of those in Belgium. Car is still in existance.
We all love Studebakers but but no one would ever really turn up their noses at those first three rides!
The sins of the fins from earlier Hawks were forgiven by the Gran Turismo’s styling. Brooks Stevens hit it out of the Park with this one!
Brooks is missed by usthat knew him.

The Studebaker Grand Turismo HAWK !!

The Lady has Exquisite Taste! Thank You, Studebaker National Museum, for this Excellent Video. It is Really Marvelous.

Of course she was waiting for me!

I love how they marketed the standard transmission, very appropriate!
Love that profile and lines! A beautiful automobile.
Gran Tourisimo HAWK! Remember it well. Great post!

That would be very cool!
She made the right choice! I'd got in if it was a Lark! A great last hurrah(along with Avanti) from a dying company.
I love, love, love the Hawk, but turning down a 61 Caddy and a 61 Lincoln is a hard sell.
Perhaps I'd turn one down if it was a supercharged Avanti ....

A Lady standing near a hotel waiting for a strange man to pick her up? In a less desirable neighborhood, she would be called something else !!
Lol
Awesome automobiles. First car was a Lark then some Commanders.
If a '53 Studebaker Champion drove by you today you would think it was a new model car that you had never seen before. Rated by some as one of the Worlds most important shapes. Including me as I had one once,!...............
awesome car!

I'll bet Ken Scott put that one up.Lol
La señorita que sale en este comercial está muy guapa y a de ser una viajera del tiempo se parece como a las modelos de esta esta época 2024
When I first saw her, I thought this was a fake commercial done with AI.
Would that ad work today?
Probably not...
Probably would be a guy waiting for another Guy to pick him up
I'll bet it would sell a lot of cars ! The whiners who would not like it would prefer a Prius, anyway.
A GM and two Ford products; they skipped over Mopar for a reason. She would most definitely have gotten into an Imperial.
1953 all over again.
When class and style were still a part of American life. Not a grunge look in sight for years in the future.
Hate to tell you this, but the "grunge look" has always existed to varying degrees. The greasers of this time, for example, were exactly that. The subject Studebaker is a very nice car though, with styling of a caliber that you would have to pay much more for in a European number.

!!
Notice how there two Fords and a Chevy but no Chrysler? That's because a Chrysler 300 would have beat them all.
By 1962, the 300s styling had mutated into a veritable sow's ear. There's good reason why Chrysler gave Exner the boot the following year. There was also only one Ford. The other two were a Lincoln and a Cadillac respectively.
I'm surprised that there wasn't an Imperial!
She looks like a young Joan Collins.
More like Tina Louise.
Is she a prozzie? :)
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
no corvette to pick up chick?
Besides the fact that this is a Studebaker ad, the GT Hawk was never a competitor for the Corvette. Never meant to be. It was firmly in the T-bird's wheelhouse.
@@jakekaywell5972 - Properly equipped, the GT Hawk was faster than a Corvette.
Bet she sold a lot of cars to family men.
So let me get this straight.....Studebaker is inferring that Caddy, Lincoln and TBird drivers are sex fiends? lol What kind of intro was that?
..... Dang ... All I needed back in the day was a nice GT Hawk ? And I could have picked up thousands of beautiful women ? ... Darn, let me just jump into my time machine and jump back several decades, and try my luck !!! 🤔 ..... 😵💫 ..... 🧐 ..... 😁 ..... 🇺🇸 .....
According to Studebaker that is all it takes!
