Used to have an HG brougham. That's the original steering wheel however there's a fake wooden insert that runs around the face of the wheel missing. You can see the depression in the wheel where it goes. The horn press had a crest in the centre on the Brougham and that's been gouged out. Different to the others. That car came with factory air I can tell by a few things but mainly by the ORIGINAL master cylinder with the circuit for the fronts coming out of the big nut on the front rather than on the side near the line out for the rear circuit. The front side circuit has been blocked off. That's an ORIGINAL water pump too, they were only made like that for HT and HG 253/308. It has 5/8 inch inlets either side of the top where HQ on had only one on the battery side and models later on had two on the battery side. Although later ones will work with minimal reconfig of pipes and hoses, you'll never find a pump like that again, same with that master cylinder. Hopefully both can be overhauled though to be frank the original master cylinders on HK/T/G weren't all that long lasting, relatively speaking. Someone has changed the rocker covers or it's not the original engine. Original covers didn't have an oil filler, the filler was a pipe on the front between those two 5/8 hoses on the water pump. Original brake pedal rubber too, car probaly hasn't really done all that many miles. Looks like the car had front bucket seats ex-factory too, rather than the standard bench bucket. Rear seat belts were an option in 1970 but mandatory for all seating positions for cars with build dates starting January 1971. - Very unlikely that the clock will still work but I've been surprised before. It's self winding via a solenoid which is periodically triggered by the contacts of ratcheting "points". They look a bit like ignition points of years past. To fix the clock the points need de-oxidizing. Use a small mild file and act like you're a dentist when doing so, being very careful.
It's a no-brainer. It would take a shit-ton of cash and time to get that Brougham on the road. Best to sell it (as-is) to someone who has the time and money to do a proper restoration on it. There would be plenty of guys willing to spend a few years getting her back to as or better than new. So cash the Brougham in. That way you can chanel the funds into the VF Pacer. The Pacer is also going to take a fair wack of cash if your plan is to do the right thing and restore the VF. Perhaps I am bias. Fun fact; I had a VF Pacer back in the day. The previous owner had installed VH E38 Charger running gear from fan to diff and it was a rocket!
decades ago,my 1st girl friends father had a gold Brougham with the tan vinyl top and at the workshop I ran later a customer had a brown metallic with dark brown vinyl top one with brocade seats. So rare that I've only ever seen a couple being driven since.
Hey DJ, given the relative rarity of this car and the fact that the body is in pretty good condition, I would recommend a resto whether that be by yourself or someone else. The value of HK,T,G Holdens has gone through the roof, even more so for the lower production models such as Monaros and Broughams. The Lincoln Continental idea is cool but I wouldn’t recommend doing it to this particular vehicle. Might not be a bad thing to sell it on and sink the proceeds into the build on the Val. Good luck whatever your decision is. Look forward to seeing more videos in the future 👍
Agreed, I remember when I was younger around 30 years ago these things were already rare and some parts were virtually impossible to spruce so it would be great to see someone put the effort into this one

Some A- hole pinched it one night and I never saw or heard of it again. Nearly 50 years on and STILL mighty pissed off - even moreso when I hear how rare they are.

I had one of those in the early 80's. Because they were unpopular new meant they were cheap to buy second hand. It was smooth, quiet and rode like a cloud. With it being built on the Kingswood wheelbase with just an extended tail meant it had the biggest boot I had ever seen. It got hit in the rear one day while I was sitting at the lights and it took forever to try and get one tail light and the decoration strip on the boot lid. Found them eventually, had it fixed but then the Tri-Matic started playing up so I gave up and traded it. Obviously they are now as rare as rocking horse shit. I hope you bring this old girl back to life, but for God's sake keep it standard. I enjoyed watching this to mate. Cheers.
I love this thing! My grandfather was inspired to buy a brand new HQ statesman we he saw on of those broughams- Very sad that the tags are gone, but the condition of it will make up for it. I would say don’t butcher it, and either sell it for someone to do up, or restore it to the best of your abilitiy

I owned a 71 hg Brahms. They are very rare and they handle very well. I also suggest that a full restoration is a much more profitable proposition. Mine was a 308 3 speed automatic. I had a kangaroo hop out right in front of me and I hit it at 70mph. I got a broken inside headlight and a broken indicator lens and very little else damage. I have only seen 3 others in my life. They are very rare.
My parents had one as well when I was a kid, not sure what year it was ,it was a 308 but I think Dad said it was a 2 speed (did they come in a 2 speed), Beautiful car we felt like royalty driving around in it. Wish he'd kept it , it'd be worth a pretty penny now.

Back in the good old day's ( late 70's ) a friend brought one of these for his first car from a car yard on Parramatta rd for $2500. It was a HK though , same colour , 302 with a 2 speed auto trans . We crazy teenage boys went for a spin in the back blocks one night in it . Hey mate lets see how fast it can go someone said , so he opened it up until it hit 120 mph . (off the clock ) We went over a slight crest in the road and there was a stop sign staring us all in the face. He locked up all fours and quickly realized there was no way were going to stop in time so let go and we when through it at about 100 mph. We got away with it and I lost any desire to ever drive at high speed again. I ended up buying it off him for a 1000 bucks few years later, still in good nick , nice car but ended up letting it go after a short time as it sucked a crazy amount of juice. Come 2023 I really wish I kept it in storage along with other cars I once owned. Would have been a great investment.
I remember seeing these cars occasionally growing up in Auckland in the 70's and 80's but they were much rarer than the standard Kingswoods and Belmonts on which they were based, which most Holden owners were driving at the time.
I grew up with Fords. Dad had a ZA Fairlane but a couple of years later my uncle got a Brougham, the same blue colour as the one you have scored. It was pretty awesome. The dealer supplied in the boot a carton of STP oil or fuel additive (I don't remember which). Good times... By the way, we pronounced it "Brawm', not 'Brahm', but who knows what's correct.
The “Browam” Brougham is a super collectible car. Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought they come out with a 307 or 350 chev. You’d get good money for that car don’t destroy it unless you want to upset a lot of people lol. Cheers DJ
HK & early HT got 307s with Powerglide. Mid to late HT 308. HG all 308s with Trimatic. 327s and 350s weren't offered in Broughams. Maybe special order, I'm not sure about that though.
@@stevenmccloskey4866 True for lesser models but HT Brougham was the only HT model to feature the 308 from release. 307 stocks were used up in all other variants until late ‘69 when 308 rolled out across the range.
A quick history lesson, a Brougham was originally a luxurious type of horse drawn carriage from the 19th century. An important English gentleman called Lord Brougham asked for this particular design of carriage to be made for him where he specified it to be both luxurious and enclosed with the driver sitting outside and up front. So the name is pronounced Broh-um, kind of the same pronunciation as 'home'. Interestingly, the name Landau (Land-ow) of 1970's Ford fame was also a type of horse drawn carriage of the 18th and 19th centuries. If you were to go back 150 years or so, horse drawn Landaus and Broughams were getting around all over the place.

Ahh takes me back!, I owned one in 79, It was fully optioned Aircon, it even had GTS bonnet and guards, 308, cloth seats, GTS dashboard, power windows etc an awesome car, It was stolen one night and destroyed unfortunately.

Broughams were built long before holden made a kingswood pregnant :) I was always taught that it was bro-um (pronounced as in "grow um"), still "tomarrto" / "to-mate-oh". maybe its a regional lingo thing.

If it was a HG premier it would be more desirable, I worked for a Holden dealer in Perth when these were new just before the far better Statesman and Statesman Caprice were released they were pushing it uphill trying to compete with Ford Fairlanes and They looked awkward with the same wheelbase as the regular Holdens as GM-H tried to disguise it by the ugly extension of the rear boot and panels, I would seriously consider spending all the effort on another make or model as it’s present condition certainly does not warrant what would be the end result as they say you can sugar coat a piece of …. But it’s still a piece of …. And this is why they did not sell in large numbers unlike the rest of the Holden range, if it was a good looked after survivor car it would probably be a different story but many of us around in their day when built would probably tell you the same it’s really only the younger generations that think these things are cool!
Had I owned a fully optioned HG Premier V8 back in the day, I certainly wouldn't have envied a Brougham owner. Yes, they were a styling turd. Now they're a rare styling turd.

Has to be restored , no question about it , they're like rockn horse poo these days . The old girl has survived all sorts of shit and has to be made whole again out of respect !!
IMO i would put in shed out of elements and then pull motor out and rebuild it , fix front suspension , Brakes etc .. source missing parts , moulds , badges , seats etc ... re-paint it . lower it 2 - 2 1/2 inches ... keep it all original as they are so hard to find , plus you can buy repo front Gaurds and door skins .. defenitly a 40k + car once restored.

Pretty sure that is the original steering wheel, re a HG. I don't hate the idea of suicide doors and LS engine, I like the idea of you bringing back to the road , rather than a project that never gets done.... The body looking stock with what you suggest makes it a bit of a sleeper. I like it.

love that colour parents had a 68 same colour with a vinyl roof 307 chev - the 1969 308 checkered rear plate on boot difference in terms of steering wheel that looks different to the one on the 68 from my memory think it had a black middle with holden logo and wooden wheel brown (but ours was a black vinyl roof so possible an option) to me that looks possible like one off a Premier but never actually viewed a 69 model steering wheel but think may have been the same dash looks the same - seat belts rear look like an upgrade from 69 with the bench seats in cream with the B logo and arm rests high beam on floor dash looks the same
Id have put the two inflated tyres on the back, done the brake clean/ ether tyre reseat trick and pulled it on backwards so the front wheels just trailed and stayed straight.
No , no and no, leave it stock standard, get it running hopefully with the original motor, then get a really good price from someone who is going to do a full resto. Then put that cash into the Pacer

I think it’s better than the pacer the V8 car mate it’s probably pretty rare disc brake front I have a look at the motor, see if they can be sent off to be done again. If not, do the old LS swap make yourself a nice bush Rick car for a burnout comp. I think the interior will be hard to get been a Broham

I had an HK Brougham, loved it. Used to drive it into the mountains pig shooting, the limited slip diff was great in the rough stuff.

That gigantic, twin diaphragm brake booster is a rare part. HKTG V8, and LCLJ XU1 only.
It's the std brougham facia with clock. The big booster was on all disc brake cars

I grew up with Fords. Dad had a ZA Fairlane but a couple of years later my uncle got a Brougham, the same blue colour as the one you have scored.
It was pretty awesome. The dealer supplied in the boot a carton of STP oil or fuel additive (I don't remember which).

By the way, we pronounced it "Brawm', not 'Brahm', but who knows what's correct.

The “Browam” Brougham is a super collectible car. Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought they come out with a 307 or 350 chev. You’d get good money for that car don’t destroy it unless you want to upset a lot of people lol. Cheers DJ
HK was Chev 307 and, maybe 327 option? HG went to Aussie 253 or 308.
Hk brougham 307. 327 was in the monaro
HK & early HT got 307s with Powerglide. Mid to late HT 308. HG all 308s with Trimatic. 327s and 350s weren't offered in Broughams. Maybe special order, I'm not sure about that though.
@@stevenmccloskey4866 True for lesser models but HT Brougham was the only HT model to feature the 308 from release. 307 stocks were used up in all other variants until late ‘69 when 308 rolled out across the range.
A quick history lesson, a Brougham was originally a luxurious type of horse drawn carriage from the 19th century. An important English gentleman called Lord Brougham asked for this particular design of carriage to be made for him where he specified it to be both luxurious and enclosed with the driver sitting outside and up front. So the name is pronounced Broh-um, kind of the same pronunciation as 'home'. Interestingly, the name Landau (Land-ow) of 1970's Ford fame was also a type of horse drawn carriage of the 18th and 19th centuries. If you were to go back 150 years or so, horse drawn Landaus and Broughams were getting around all over the place.

Ahh takes me back!, I owned one in 79, It was fully optioned Aircon, it even had GTS bonnet and guards, 308, cloth seats, GTS dashboard, power windows etc an awesome car, It was stolen one night and destroyed unfortunately.

Broughams were built long before holden made a kingswood pregnant :) I was always taught that it was bro-um (pronounced as in "grow um"), still "tomarrto" / "to-mate-oh". maybe its a regional lingo thing.
I think it probably is a local lingo thing. I was always told it was pronounced “Brow-um”. Regardless of how it’s pronounced, it’s a pretty cool car.

Eddie Ford did an article in Rod and Custom in the early 70's about a bloke who had one from factory which had a monaro guard on one side and a stocky on the other. apparently quality control was absent when that one rolled off the line. probably worth a motza nowadays if it was unmolested.
Seems I was pronouncing it wrong. The attached add from the day, they say it Bro-ham. I (like DJ) was told back in the late 70's it was Braaam. Even a work colleague recently said Braam. All said, Braaam sounds cooler than Bro-ham, don't you think?

If it was a HG premier it would be more desirable, I worked for a Holden dealer in Perth when these were new just before the far better Statesman and Statesman Caprice were released they were pushing it uphill trying to compete with Ford Fairlanes and They looked awkward with the same wheelbase as the regular Holdens as GM-H tried to disguise it by the ugly extension of the rear boot and panels, I would seriously consider spending all the effort on another make or model as it’s present condition certainly does not warrant what would be the end result as they say you can sugar coat a piece of …. But it’s still a piece of …. And this is why they did not sell in large numbers unlike the rest of the Holden range, if it was a good looked after survivor car it would probably be a different story but many of us around in their day when built would probably tell you the same it’s really only the younger generations that think these things are cool!
Had I owned a fully optioned HG Premier V8 back in the day, I certainly wouldn't have envied a Brougham owner. Yes, they were a styling turd. Now they're a rare styling turd.
I haven't figured out how to pronounce Brougham in 35 years. They were pretty much unwanted in the '80s. I didn't know they were *that* rare!

IMO i would put in shed out of elements and then pull motor out and rebuild it , fix front suspension , Brakes etc .. source missing parts , moulds , badges , seats etc ... re-paint it . lower it 2 - 2 1/2 inches ... keep it all original as they are so hard to find , plus you can buy repo front Gaurds and door skins .. defenitly a 40k + car once restored.

I had a girlfriend back in the 70s whose mum owned a Brougham. They are quite big inside.
Pretty sure that is the original steering wheel, re a HG. I don't hate the idea of suicide doors and LS engine, I like the idea of you bringing back to the road , rather than a project that never gets done.... The body looking stock with what you suggest makes it a bit of a sleeper. I like it.

love that colour parents had a 68 same colour with a vinyl roof 307 chev - the 1969 308 checkered rear plate on boot difference in terms of steering wheel that looks different to the one on the 68 from my memory think it had a black middle with holden logo and wooden wheel brown (but ours was a black vinyl roof so possible an option) to me that looks possible like one off a Premier but never actually viewed a 69 model steering wheel but think may have been the same dash looks the same - seat belts rear look like an upgrade from 69 with the bench seats in cream with the B logo and arm rests high beam on floor dash looks the same
Id have put the two inflated tyres on the back, done the brake clean/ ether tyre reseat trick and pulled it on backwards so the front wheels just trailed and stayed straight.
No , no and no, leave it stock standard, get it running hopefully with the original motor, then get a really good price from someone who is going to do a full resto. Then put that cash into the Pacer

I think it’s better than the pacer the V8 car mate it’s probably pretty rare disc brake front I have a look at the motor, see if they can be sent off to be done again. If not, do the old LS swap make yourself a nice bush Rick car for a burnout comp. I think the interior will be hard to get been a Broham

Lower models still ran drums but hg brougham were all fitted with disc brakes and power steering
All KTG V8s had disc front ends. As did all GTS Monaros including 186S powered ones.
There's a nice one of those in Coolgardie. 😊
