I WANT ONE.
I'd drive it to work, too.
Saw you on Outrageous Acts of Science. All I can say is, "WOW!".
Oh thanks 🙏
Nice
Видел вашу штуку давно....
Поражон что так мало просмотров
Поражон что второго такого никто не сделал до сих пор !!!! 9 лет прошло !!!!
Пропорциональные клапаны откуда брали если не секрет ?
They can use something like that for Mars, to Get Around and collect artifacts?.
Hol up
This was SEVEN YEARS AGO?
Yup!! 😁
Yes, they made three prototypes, all of whihc were quite incredible machines! In fact you could say the final version was a production model. But my point is it is no longer operational, hence this is currently the biggest operational hexapod in the world. :)
Been reading to start building a hexapod, but you took it to the next level
+Guy Garcia Thanks!
That's a heck of a steampunkmobile, but it looks like it's just a scaled up model of technology that's been out for a decade or more. It needs some automated terrain detection and control assistance or something so the pilot can just say go forward and it will climb over whatever is in its way at more than a snails pace. Maybe some quick moving pneumatics rather than hydraulics so it really gets cooking.
We asked VERY nicely!! just before demolition started.
If these guys don't get a Nobel Prize I swear I'll do time.
I like how the machine disappears at the end. My compliments to whomever wrote the code to make that happen. A true genius. :)
I can see the Mantis performing in multimedia events, advertizing campaigns, commercials, or helping to build brands, it would be great if you're considering renting it out for such events!
To see how many developers would watch it to the end.. and bother to point it out! your the first! well done. ;)
I guess some of us just like to create things for the sake of creating, we don't necessarily need a reason.. Art? With this project we tried to cover two aspects, creative engineering and an R&D platform for many possible applications. Take a look at the first machine timber jack produced, it doesn't look to practical, but it became something amazing! The one you see in most of their videos is actually their third machine and cost tens of millions of dollars!
Isn't that how most inventions start off?
I believe the army and oil exploration companies are interested in this thing. With a few modifications, tweaks, and improvement, I can see this been used to help in different situations.
To all those complaining about its speed: its a gressorial platform, its not supposed to move fast. The whole concept, even military, behind a gressorial vehicle is traversing terrain which tracked or wheeled vehicles find difficult or impossible to traverse. They also have just as good, if not better, stability than tracked or wheeled vehicles, meaning stronger firepower is theoretically possible. They also have the benefit of theoretically being able to carry heavier loads.
This is so sci-fi, its hard to believe it's real. WOW the future is her and now.
This is the first step.
If someone never tried to make something as this, we would never get closer to the goal people think about.
Keep up the great work good sir. My thoughts, and hopes are with you.
This is absolutely Awesome!
What a fantastic piece of machinery...in the places my Land Rover gets stuck, this thing could keep going - great for collecting logs! Maybe another two arms at the front for picking stuff up? Oooooo the possibilities!
Stunning! The world needs more giant walking robots!
Amazing video for just a slow-walking hexapod
Good Voice over.
Handsome actor.
Exciting music.
... slower than my brothers 3 wheeler.
very useful tool to push barrels and trailers around
I Need one of these!!! Perfect way to get to work...
Love that song btw excellent choice
Cool machine. Absolute trash noise for "music".
The most awesome hexapod!!!!
Amazing as always. Congratulations Matt!
We wrote our own code, its called HexEngine and has been around for some years, although on a smaller scale!
Well done Matt, this looks great!
Looks stunning! And probably feels even better. The video itself is perfect as well.
I can't believe you built this in your garage, it's really impressive.
People stop hating, its a cool machine, who cares if its the first or not, or if theres even a use for it, its a big boys toy and its cool, good job
Absolutely awesome, love it!
I have never seen a rideable hexapod before. This is revolutionary and awesome. I subscribed in the hopes that there will be lots of more videos.
When I hit the lottery, I will commision you to build one out of carbon fiber, maybe a two seater, that can go faster. I could not find the specs on your web page. What angle can it climb?
Take a look at the other video in the video response section, you will see how it packs down on to a 4.2 x 2.1 metre trailer.
Yes, the best thing is to ignore them, or maybe even delete stupid comments, I guess some times I feel people need a reply, if they dish it out, expect some back!
Nice work on the comps, etc
Nice one Matt!
I didn't think I'm the one being negative.. read through the page of comments.. so many haters and negativity. I agree, posting on-line will open you up to comments, unless of course you turn comments off :).
I agree, there is much I would like to explore with the control software, but all this needs money and man power.
Good point, in fact I do wear a lap belt while operating the machine, but we didn't film me putting it on. :)
Love it. Very professionally built. Some of the other ones I'd seen looked like they were just scrapped together with no attention to detail. I'd love to see this think climb up something. Great work!
Art!
This is really awesome!
Exactly!
Awesome!
That was awesome!!
Amazing.
YES!
INSANE ... I want one for my birthday.
Amazing
Sick Guy... LOVE IT ! !
Oh BIG sound track!!!!!
Superb. From Matt the guy who brought us 'Lost in Space' Robot. If I'm not mistaken. And directed by Oscar brother of Edgar of 'Shaun of the dead' movie. Nice collab. Crazy machine.
Nice effort. I could seriously see myself going through the local drivethru bottleshop and showing up all the posers in their 4x4's. that have never been offroad.
One is real.. One is not.. They can't be compared! :)
Simplemente brutal / just brutal.
Saludos desde España /Greetings from Spain
Trop cool...
Plustech made a operational purpose built proto that actually did some harvesting in the early 00s and late 90s. And yes it's in a museum now and John Deere bought Plustech OY.
That looks a heck of a lot smoother than any of the other walking bots i have seen this far. Beautiful work! What is the smallest footprint you can have with the whole machine? say for storage and all that.
this is so cool
SO COOL!
So it has begun.
And the timber jack actually does something useful!
All of the above! The whole point of making this machine and in particular releasing this video was to see what interest it generated and from where? I'm open to all options at this stage.
I think a snail just beat you to the finish line..
While it seems pretty gratuitous here on earth, maybe it could be used in space exploration? Not sure about the hydraulics in extreme temperatures though.
Love the dubstep
This thing is so cool to watch. if you speed up the footage 5 or 10 times
It's a promo video... there are plenty of technical videos on our facebook page, and more to follow here. Read the description :)
Correct. Pyestock!
That is the most coolest robot that you can drive ever. I would like to build one of those. Is there a design plan on the web that could tell me how to build one of those and also tells me what parts are required to build it?
That's just one of the reasons it was built. let me know if you have an idea / suggestion / contact.
Absolutely wrekt that barrel
Somebody who talks sense! :)
This would be an excellent addition to my volcano island base.
Holy shit! This so cool !
It's credited at the end...
Excision & Downlink - Existence VIP
METAL GEAR!!!
I demand a fight between Mantis and Kuratas... fully equipped!
Nice! :)
Excision
Looks like Kuratas (Japan) will have a competition ... let the robot battle begin
...Mother of God... Bravo!
The name of this "creature" is as epic as its looks
Hi, We have engine capacity to go two or three times faster, but need to make some engineering changes before we can do this, If I get more funding maybe I can!
Having a form of expertise in the area you are judging will make for a refined, useful opinion that is of actual benefit for those who are being judged. Or even a decent sense of criticism can be useful.
As opposed to some of the comments here such as "too bad it's fake".
The comment you replied to was specifically addressing "hate" comments (comments with straight insults as opposed to actual criticism), which is why such comments are being addressed. Not I nor the other person you addressed ever said that you need to do better in order to judge. That was purely a misconstrued assumption.
And it is judgement, he expressed his opinion on the machine as a fact based on his evaluation.
Reminds me of that robot from the beginning of the first Half-Life game (I mean that as a compliment. Its a sci-fi game). I'm really chuffed such an awesome design has been made and I hope it finds some useful applications in the future!
Or maybe you didn't read the description, or bother looking at the other videos such as terrain tests.. This is a promo video, not a technical video :)
Even hexapods are not safe from the wub wub. Nice Video!
Looks great and surely was a lot of work. Great job.
But... it does move very slow, does it?
I get one of these and Ill buy you a beer? :P
Seriously awesome machinery!
What would you know about the mechanics?? The machine has been built with all components rated IP65 or higher, so no it won't malfunction after three days.
Sweet! I want one. Confused why people saying it moving so slow, seemed pretty good speed to me for how it moves.
Yeah it's a real shame! Once I found the site and discovers its history and impending doom, it just seemed like we had to film there. I got in touch with the owners and had an initial site visit where I showed them the Mantis and our plans, and the kindly agreed. :)
