What's incredible to me is that they were not only able to balance it on a corner but balance it and counter the torque to keep it from spinning on its corner. Amazing.
Check out the device that balances 3 hinged pendulums....vertically! Now THAT is freaking mind blowing.... But I agree, being able to pop itself up onto a point is pretty neat. I wonder if itll ever saturate...probably not since its at surface gravity and theres friction against whatever its sitting on. Also wonder if they can quiet it down some if they sealed it and pulled a bit of a vacuum.....

The biggest development that allowed this thing to be built is the development and perfection of MEMS devices. And the MEMS devices can update a hell of a lot faster. Granted they're not analog like the old ones could be, but with how systems are built these days (data goes to a central processing unit then instructions are sent to relevant sub systems vs a sensor input being conditioned, amplified, and directly driving a hydraulic valve for example and the computers just monitored the signal possibly had an ability to modify it some but the point is sensors directly affecting control devices) your signal resolution is only as good as the ADC that converts sensor element readings to binary anyways. AND the error of modern sensors, especially after some well developed filtering is applied is WAY below analogs trustworthy resolution anyways....
A shout-out to those who think that Cubli is a gyroscope. It is not. In a gyroscope the wheel spins at a high angular velocity to keep constant orientation. In the Cubli we use reaction torques to balance. These torques are what the Cubli's structure 'feels' when the three motors attached to it accelerate or decelerate the wheels. In fact, Cubli's controller tries to minimize wheel velocities in addition to keeping the structure upright. This method is more reactive to external disturbances and reduces vibrations and sensor noise. Hope you enjoyed the video! (original comment modified for simplicity, Thanks *****)

I think they meant jump in the loose way. Like the way you jump out of bed, or that you're jumpy when scared. You don't actively jump but you have a fast movement suddenly. Like for instance The guy jumped up from his chair and ran. He didn't actually jump, he just stood up very quickly which can be perceived as jumping. Open up your mind bro.
But you definitely don't understand the full meaning. They used it correctly. jump, jumped, jump·ing, jumps verb intransitive a. To propel oneself upward or over a distance in single quick motion or series of such motions. b. To move suddenly and in one motion: jumped out of bed. c. To move involuntarily, as in surprise: jumped when the phone rang. d. To parachute from an aircraft. a. Informal To act quickly; hustle: Jump when I give you an order. b. To take prompt advantage; respond quickly: jump at a bargain. a. To enter eagerly into an activity; plunge: jumped into the race for the nomination. b. To begin or start. To move a piece over (an opponent's piece) in a board game, often thereby capturing the opponent's piece. b. To raise (a partner's bid) in bridge by more than is necessary. To jump-start (a motor vehicle). To leave (a course), especially through mishap: The train jumped the rails. Slang a. To leave hastily; skip: jumped town a step ahead of the police. b. An involuntary nervous movement; a start. b. jumps A condition of nervousness. Often used with the. A jump-start of a motor vehicle. Vulgar Slang An act of sexual intercourse.
What isn't shown is one limitation of reaction wheels. If you where to apply continuous force on one side of the cube while balancing on an edge, the reaction wheels would accelerate to counter the force applied and stay balanced, yet if you were to maintain the force you apply to it, the wheels would have to keep accelerating, and there is the limitation of reaction wheels. it can't accelerate indefinitely.
Well no duh lol, the same rules go for applying pressure continuously, you wouldn't be able to do it indefinitely or with infinitely increasing power so it would just come down to whether the cubes balancing force is stronger, or the pressure force is stronger. Which is obvious
@@cutiecry8313 Agree to disagree.we dont need to increase the force,we just need to provide same force for a long time until cubli cant accelerate more

@@BedStuyBro I know a few people who have used them for surgeries (as part of a weight loss surgery support group) - most of them are very happy with their results, one of them is, in her words "totally disfigured" - The way she tells it, they removed too much skin during the tummy tuck, leaving it too tight to allow for movement (which is heavily encouraged as early as 12 hours post surgery, apparently?) and swelling. Some stitches popped and got infected and after 12 days in hospital (in Australia) and surgery to remove the infected tissue, her abdomen has several large scars instead of just the one that she was promised by the surgeons. I also know of someone who has to go in for revision surgery because she kept losing weight after the original one leaving her with more skin - that's partially on her but mostly on them as they should have checked that her weight was stable and HAD been stable for at least 12 months (or so the plastic surgeon I spoke to a while back said) before they did any cosmetic procedures - to make sure this very issue didn't happen. Personally I wouldn't use them, but that's mostly because I can't imagine anything WORSE than being on an international flight while healing from surgery. If I'm going to do it, I'd rather just pay more and get top service in Australia. Every doctor everywhere has had a bad outcome or two, getting it done in Australia, Thailand or anywhere else does not guarantee you'll be in the "good outcome" or "bad outcome" group - it's all about doing research and deciding what you're willing to risk based on the information you find within that research.

I want to see a BattleBot using this method of locomotion, a full-body attack hammer using all corners of a polyhedron (doesn’t need to be a cube!). Done with enough capacity to make rapid course changes (more than seen here) at a minimum, it’d keep opposing drivers confused as to how best to corner it. Also, with no wheels to attack to disable the locomotion, how do they pick a vulnerable spot to disable it?
Well if the robot's weapons (spinners, specifically) were powerful enough to break the inner workings of the robot using this method, then I don't think that's very effective imo, but a nice suggestion either way, just, not for head on collision.
@@maroonjacketdkid08 BattleBots is indeed, a very unforgiving arena. Yes, if the thought-experiment BattleBot (not a robot unless it is reprogrammable, as the typical BattleBots are dangerous remote-control toys with weapons, usually) can’t take the punches, being a neat concept won’t have it last long. It’s quite probable the amount of armor needed to sustain the punishment would result in a device that’s underpowered. It’s entirely possible to isolate the innards enough to keep them from being shaken/battered to death, given enough weight to work with, but the question is if that’d fit within the constraints in all aspects, including monetary budget.

I would put it in my office and enjoy the confused looks of customers and colleges :)
flitsies Certainly, I'd love to have one to show off.
ejmac11 I recon there would be a pretty good market, and a lot of spin offs from such a device once put inside other toys or gizmos.
They are missing out, of course it has to be the right price, mass production and all that.
flitsies I agree with all of those points, hopefully they can get it to where the price is reasonable for the average person.
flitsies i´d definitely buy one!

They might not understand the word "jump"
Lmao
Same with Hoverboards
@@padmosss.voidstellar2525 oh yes,Hoverboards. The way they hover is stunning!
I think they meant jump in the loose way. Like the way you jump out of bed, or that you're jumpy when scared. You don't actively jump but you have a fast movement suddenly. Like for instance
The guy jumped up from his chair and ran.
He didn't actually jump, he just stood up very quickly which can be perceived as jumping. Open up your mind bro.
But you definitely don't understand the full meaning. They used it correctly.

No shit
@@cutiecry8313 Agree to disagree.we dont need to increase the force,we just need to provide same force for a long time until cubli cant accelerate more
@@nandhusb554 I mean there’s only one answer and it’s what you just said. The other guy is completely wrong if he thinks the cube can resist a small but continuous force indefinitely.

THIS THING FREAKS ME OUT!
