  • Here is a beautiful version of Pange Lingua, featuring Fr. Patrick Salah on organ and Michael Gnemmi singing. We recorded it late on Monday evening after a rehearsal for the Chrism Mass. Thank you, friends, for your gift of music and for letting me share this with everyone! Fr. Patrick's stunning improvisations between the verses gave me chills when I was singing and still do as I listen now!

Audio recorded using a Zoom H4nPro recorder. The photographs are of the interior of Saint Mary's Cathedral Basilica, Halifax, NS, Canada (and of the beautiful Casavant organ up in the loft).
Background information: Pange Lingua Gloriosi was written by St. Thomas Aquinas for the Feast of Corpus Christi. The final two verses (Tantum Ergo) are sung as part of the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. At the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday, this hymn is sung while the Blessed Sacrament is transferred. One of the most common English translations is "Sing, my tongue, the Savior's glory" (by Edward Caswall).
