Really thought out build done by Micah. He was able to keep costs down, build his own power system, build a A/C unit, while keeping it stealthy looking on the outside. @@williewill78 I'm using the Cradlepoint IBR900-600m with the dock to add another 1200m model the setup is pretty costly and they've shifted to a subscription model at $180/yr so I don't recommend them anymore. You can't adjust some settings on them that helps get around certain throttling too. I'm developing some better options that i'm testing when I finish testing i'll offer them for sale on my website. Follow my mnt_off_grid insta linked above i'll post details soon. If you are in the market for something sooner I recommend the Pepwave Max Transit with at least a Cat12 modem. I'd skip any Chinese generic routers and the MoFi device which is based on those with a nearly obsolete modem. The wireless is poor and they tend to fail.
Organize an insulation / AC shootout in PHX in August hosted by Cruise n Comfort! Invite the evaporating cooler people so they can show how they defy physics with monsoon humidity... 🤦
I agree, genius. If I do go ahead with a van build, I would contact him for the battery. Lo e the temp monitoring app. I want to travel with my cats. I could rea)y use that app. Also wifi combo is a great idea.
Love how humble this guy was! Really great, affordable, and practical build. I would definitely go to him to contract the building of that battery if I was in the market.
Very nice! It’s great to see something so technical, but in a practical way rather than to just show off. He knows his priorities and made it work. Brilliant build!
Love seeing other Micahs haha! I also thought the same thing immediately when you were like “want to plug anything?” And he starts plugging friends -what a sweetheart!
I like how he was able to use off brand equipment. Some of it was better and definitely cheaper. It is open-minded and creative and his problem solving
I think a follow up video on just the A/C system would be great, that goes over each component in detail and talks about how he chose each part, and how he hooked them all together, and why he set it up the way he did, and talks about build outs of custom systems from scratch. There are lots of people who would want an alternative to the standard roof mounted A/C unit, but there aren't many resources out there.
Ok so beyond the "I made my own battery.... I put together my A/C", this is one of the cleanest styled van builds I've seen yet, the welded aluminum is a game changer, along with the exotic wood used. The lower bed height also got my attention since I'm 6'3" tall. The open all the way through under the bed makes a lot of sense, would allow for materials for building others vans to just 'slide right through'. Well done.
I was considering a diy 24v air conditioner, learned all about phase change heat pumps, then concluded it works be more cost effective to just buy a mini split. Nice van!
He is amazing! I love how he uses high tech to problem solve and monitor temp for their pets! I couldn't do this on my own! I love how he balanced aethetics with practicality and didn't sacrifice on what's important to him, starting with an awesome newer van that had the best safety and tech features. This was super 👌 cool AND practical. Love the use of aluminum for less weight; love that he used wool insulation and insulated floor too. Awesome build; awesome tech and beautiful and practical materials. I hope I can get at least the tech sorted out when I start my van life project. Thanks so much for this awesome tour and video!
Just wow! The wood is gorgeous! The aluminum frame added a real touch of class and a clean ascetic. Got a bit distracted and missed how you cook. You did an amazing job. Building your own battery is certainly above and beyond. I shared your video on my Flipboard ezine: Viaggiare del Mondo. Happy and safe trails.
Stunning - great clean aesthetic. But - needs a shower solution if one lives in it. I mean the Wi-Fi and all the brilliant tech solutions ordered from China and Russia are totally awesome, incl your own clever AC and uber battery build but I think that it might more sense to scrap that uncomfortable leather bench in the front and use that space for a shower. Then all you have to do is come up with a really comfortable bed/couch conversion solution. Definitely brilliant but if you are older a shower and a comfortable seating/lounging/bed conversion would be a huge plus for full-time RV living. One of my favorite things is the really good-looking wall and ceiling treatments throughout it gives it a clean, coherent more spacious feeling. Impressive and well thought out overall, although the open overhead storage bins add visual clutter which doesn't mesh with the clean, concealed aesthetic you created throughout.
Nice to see a conversion done inexpensively but with smart, low weight materials. Toilet in a bag may make more sense than cassettes that have to be cleaned out. Van that fit a bed across are the way to go.
If the people I tour gave me a list then I'd add them. Unfortunately it's a ton more work for me to look up every single product with links. That is why I ask everyone I tour the names of products so people can look them up
Micah, one van lifer to another, that's an awesome rig. The only thing I saw you may want to grab/investigate is another low cost peace of mind. Ravenwolf Marine makes this pad that goes under your mattress, its called Den-dry condensation control. It's awesome stuff and inexpensive, please check it out. Definitely one of the best products I've found. I wish you and yours happy, safe adventures, and many laughs! ✌
Thanks for the video, I have the same indoor/outside temp thing and have just used the indoor part because I could not figure out a goo place for the outside one. Now my problem is fixed.
Cool video! Finally a Transit tour. I don’t think it is intensional, but you seldom do Transit tours. Please do more, so us Transit owners can see more options unique to Transits. Thanks!!!
Building your own battery is such a great move if you can safely learn to do it or hire an electrician to do it for you. 280AH of diy lithium battery is about the same cost as 100AH prebuilt.
Some people use "fake tiles". I wouldn't use them so I used stainless steel. Then 2 minutes later proceeds to explain how he used "Fake leather". LOL. I did love this awesome build.
Amazing job Micah! And you seem like a good egg. Would totally hire you to make my rig safe for pets but alas i am in NJ. Thanks Jarrod for all the great content. Subbed.
Make sure you keep the coils on the condenser unit under the van clean. Especially if you drive the highways in the winter. The salts will eat the copper and aluminum
This guy is just like me. I built everything custom in my tiny-house. I'm planning a tiny-house on wheels that will have much of what this guy has, with a full bathroom included.

@@epicoffgrid Hi Micah. Which batteries did you use to make your bank, and which BMS' did you end up using?

😃❤👍 thank you! That's awesome!
I love watching humble people do what they love in life!

Yeah! He made his own battery and his own AC unit?!? Must be very smart

Yep, clearly a wicked smart dude. He saved a couple thousand bucks on the air conditioner alone. Kudos to Jarrod for sharing his work with us
He forgot to add that he also built a cloaking device for the van. I saw it once..I mean I didnt see it..😀😎
@@GiantMeteor2024 what's that?
This guy is not your average van dude. Respect. Nicely done.
This guy is fearless. And so unassuming and nice.
One of the smartest van builds I’ve seen. And, I love his minimalist aesthetic showcasing honest materials.
Such a clean look van build. He is such a nice guy and very intelligent.

Was a treat to watch this dude talk about his van.
I want to live in a van outside his house. This guy is amazing. I could use his WiFi internet help right now at home.
I like how he was able to use off brand equipment. Some of it was better and definitely cheaper. It is open-minded and creative and his problem solving
Top notch build and seems like the type
of guy you would want to hangout with
Aesthetically different from any other build I’ve seen. Definitely dig it! Probably top 3, maybe number 1... might still some ideas
this is one of the best/most intelligent van designs I've seen. Thanks Jarrod!
This build and the murphy bed one are by far my favorites. Love how everything looks!

Hi Jarrod, thank you for making us all so happy, getting to watch your amazing videos, and all the more when Einstein makes a van !!! 😀
Thank you 😊
"Einstein" lol. He is brilliant.
This is Wheel Estate! I love this and this guy is a Genius!! Everything you need and it looks simple and clean.
Nice simple design but I definitely would want a full bathroom especially for such a new & fully loaded model.
This is amazing, definitely referencing this repeatedly during my build 🤓 the custom A/C and battery setup is genius 👌
I love this guy!
He’s brilliant but doesn’t tech talk- and explains well

His build was so neat & I loved his ceiling, his air conditioner is nice too.
Effectively cooling an RV makes ALL the difference.... that alone was worth watching for future builds... a multi talented person! Thanks to U both.
Love the industrial vibe his van has. Different from most of the vans you see now.
I love listening to brilliant people talk and you too, Jerrod. (You can have that for free) Great video, seriously.
So clever! What a beautiful build. And Micah has such a great personality--this is one of the most enjoyable van videos on UA-cam.
Love the simplicity and clean look of it.
