The first time we went to Disney, my dad thought the Tower of Terror was a legit hotel and he was like “I wonder what happened there?” In reference to the lightning burns on it.
Florida Tower of Terror is the clear winner. The California version was good but nowhere near as good. If they had tried to redo the Florida version, that would be unacceptable. But between the two current versions, Florida still wins. It's just a much more thoughtful execution that looks right and maintains the perfect tone from the moment you see it until the ride is over.
Tower of Terror is one of the all time greatest Disney experiences ever. GotG is a good romp and a half but it just can’t compare. I think GotG is less cohesive and more cluttered. It is more of a burst of energy rather than a well put together story. For Tower, the attraction starts when you turn onto sunset boulevard and you see this mysterious building in the distance. The queue through the abandoned gardens is subtle yet top notch. Of course you covered the lobby well in your vid but it truly is immersive. The entire queue and preshow give a great element of suspense and have a lot of storytelling through subtext. GotG seems more into being really straightforward and putting in obvious Easter eggs. The queue alone makes ToT the better attraction imo and it could have easily been a walkthrough attraction and everyone would be satisfied. The cast members are also top notch like you said. Then as you go up the elevator shaft you just get chills even after your 50th time. Moving forward also helps with this sensation. I consider the drops themselves to be almost a bonus rather than the core experience. I think GotG relies on the energy from the drops and action more. I still think it’s great, but I’d take immersiveness, suspense, and atmosphere any day. Bonus points for a better gift shop for Tower. I can’t fault anyone for preferring guardians as it is great, but Tower of Terror (even the former CA version) will win for me every time hands down.
Very well said! I totally agree. Especially with the ride "starting" in a sense on Sunset Boulevard. The themeing fits flawlessly into the framework of the park as a whole and it begins building suspense from the first glimpse you get of the tower.
So I’ve never been on TOT but I was pressured to go on GOTG last month and I was honestly so surprised how fun and immersive it was. I’ve seen videos of TOT and I feel like the music and bright videos of GOTG makes the ride soooo much more fun for everyone
I like the Hollywood Theme. Disney reskinning rides is getting old. I mean GOTG doesn't really fit in that ride system - they just forced it to work lol.
Both rides are fine. What I don't like is that some people, when they hear someone say they like one ride better, that person goes out of their way to bash on the other attraction, just because someone said they like the other.
I will have to agree with you. I rode both versions of The Tower of Terror. I really hated the version in California Adventure. It felt like it was a major let down. When they change to GOTG, I thought it was going to suck. I was very happy to be proven wrong. The Tower of Terror in Florida is still a fun ride and I think it is the best ride, but I’m very happy about GOTG. I don’t care what anyone says I am very happy that GOTG is at California Adventure
I think I agree with your conclusion! Tower of Terror was my favorite ride in DCA (And Disneyland is my home park, not World) but the new Guardians ride is super duper well done, and probably even better than what it was before. BUT... like you said at the end... I rode the Florida ToT for the first time last year, and it was... So. Cool. Nothing can beat the suspense and the spookiness and the immersion of the old hotel. And it definitely deserves that bonus point for the hallway in the ride!!
Yes, exactly!!! ToT in Disneyland was always a favorite, but Guardians was still an upgrade. The original Tower of Terror is on a whole different level, though!
I’ll never forget the cast members at Tower of Terror. One of them just stared at us the whole time wide eyed like he was possessed. And there was an extra seat, so he even ended up riding with us, which made it feel even more creepy. And the other guy went through a whole generic safety briefing and at the end of it, he nonchalantly said something along the lines of “Please stay seated as I send you off to your never ending doom.” And someone riding with us shouted out an overly enthusiastic “Thank you!” And the guy just gives us all a look like “Wtf..” then casually walks away without saying another word as the ride begins to move. Over the span of about a minute, I was insanely creeped out, then immediately cracking up. Those guys were even more memorable than the ride to me.
I do really prefer the theme of Tower of Terror (TOT), But the ride experience of Guardians is SO MUCH MORE FUN! When First rode Guardians, My first thought was, "This beats TOT by a LONG SHOT" With TOT, so much of the ride is devoted to building suspension. But with Guardians, The ride just starts Right away after those doors close. I also honestly feel that, when TOT had the "Final Checkout" thing, it was 10x scarier bc ALL of the lights were gone and there was mostly no sound. And when he said "And this time it's opening for you" you usually expect to drop, but you didn't! You just sat there for like 10 seconds! But I still feel Guardians is so much more fun.
I definitely agree with you, though I never did get to experience the final checkout. Tower of Terror has Disney themeing and immersion at it's finest, but Guardians has an absolutely delightful ride experience.
I’ve ridden both and Mission Breakout if by far the more fun ride. Everyone is just hooping, hollering and laughing the entire time, and the rock music blaring in the background is just awesome! TOT is all about the tension then you do a few drops in the dark and it’s over. I would never leave Disneyland Resort without doing Mission Breakout at least once. I could miss TOT in Disney World and not be mad.
Coming from the perspective of someone with a 9 year old boy. First time I took my son to Disneyland he was 2; right before they made the switch. We usually go 1-2 times per year. Once he was tall enough to ride it, me, and his mom made the mistake of lying to him that it wasn’t a thrill ride. My son being the very observant kid he is caught on and kept asking us if we were sure it wasn’t a thrill ride. Us, knowing he would love the ride, continued to assure him it wasn’t. We made it all the way to boarding. That’s when our son 6 at the time asked the cast member what the ride does. Lol. So he tell him, and our son freaks out. We had to leave. Spent the rest of the 5 day trip trying to convince him. Could not convince him no matter how hard we tried that trip, and the next 4 trips after. Moral of that is don’t ever lie to your kids about a ride because he would have gotten on a lot sooner if we didn’t betray his trust. Finally we went for a week Christmas 2022, just turned 9. He was finally ready to get on. He was scared, but once the music kicked on, he was absolutely loving all of it. We had the Born to Be Wild version fist. My sons absolutely adores Guardians of The Galaxy. It’s a very upbeat, high energy vibe the whole time, which makes it awesome. I doubt the TOT can get that out of my son. So as a father, being able to enjoy the ride with my son, watching him absolutely going crazy to the music and screaming to the ride just makes my day. So therefore TOT can never compare in my eyes. I will say before Guardians was there the TOT was my favorite ride at the park. This Christmas we are going to WDW for 2 weeks. He will finally get to try TOT. Knowing my son he’s not going to like it as much, but we will see. The delayed drop times though is spot on.
No way, hello, Mark! Happy to have you here, and I certainly agree!!! If I may be so bold: I am actually in the process of writing a whole series on the history of the ride(s). I am not a fan of superheroes so im really happy they can't do a marvel land at disney world . Universal studios Orlando has the right's for almost every marvel characters in Florida.
Naw, the ToT in DCA was an inferior ToT. Now it’s unique and fun as all get out. ToT in Florida is amazing, but GotG is it’s own amazing experience. Good reason to hit both!
Hey I got a question I hope you see this do you think that the Disney world tower of terror will turn into the guardians ride and will there be a marvel land at Disney world?
I prefer the ride in Mission Breakout over Tower of Terror, but Tower of Terror has the best exterior and interior while Mission Breakout is a huge mess.
GOTG feels a lot more thrilling and fun since it directly launches you up with multiple drop, while TOT has a lot more tension with a story while going up, but I prefer GOTG since I have a bias for thrilling rides and gotg overall
i 100% believe changing the west coast version to gotg was a great decision. it’s my favorite ride in the disneyland resort. however, i firmly believe tot in hollywood studios should never change. one, there’s alr a gotg in epcot so it wouldn’t make sense to make another one, and two, the cali version of tot was so much more lackluster than the florida version. the guardians theme better utilizes the ride system the cali version has the tot better utilized the ride system hollywood studios has. they’re similar, but the florida version has that really cool dark ride part that takes the lifts from the first shaft to the drop shafts.
Let's agree to disagree. It is cool that the ride vehicle moves down the hallway before it drops in Florida, but to me, that part wasn't that cool. For me that part was kind of boring and not really needed. GOTGMB has a far superior execution of the ride system's potential. Overall both are fun rides, but GOTG is one of Disney's best rides ever! I was so mad when they changed it, but then I ate my words and I am glad. I can't get enough of that ride! From start to finish it is an entertaining thrill.
I think the GOTG mechanicals have been upgraded. The drops and rises fell more intense than the Hollywood Tower of Terror. But the 5th dimension shaft is a plus. They just need to upgrade the drop ride portion itself.
Did you guys notice that he added two points randomly to tower of terror so in reality they are both tied. Also I think guardians is way better because it’s more fun
Tot had superior theming on the exterior and interior. the collector's collection is just lazily thrown together easter eggs. The boiler room is almost unchanged except for ugly green lights so that's a big minus. the ride for TOT could have just received a randomized drop sequence update to solve the repitition problem. Disney just wanted to make money off of Marvel.
The Guardians queue also has tons of Disney Parks props & artifacts. You can find the original Matterhorn Yeti, the octopus from the Summer Holiday overlay of Country Bear Jamboree, and a Figment from the original Journey Into Imagination.
One extra point im surpised not mention is guardian of the galaxy Monsters after dark with the queve being changed into a more creepy enviorment and cast members having a waaaay different attitude. Which means they technically have 7 different ways to ride the ride. Also I think that even though the collectors fortress is in hollywood but if you think about it. Its kinda like a museum in Hollywood but that may be a stretch. Imo I think GOTG is better than Tower Of Terror
You got it exactly right only one thing. This should of been titled as the better attraction. Because as you stated the actual "ride" (drop portion), is way better in Cali. I've also heard this from alot of guests in park that have rode both. DW does have the better queue but when it comes to the dropping. DCA takes it, much more intense. Especially if you get Parliament 😆
That's a good point! Disney attractions are so much more than the ride itself, which is totally awesome, but as far as the actual ride experience, Guardians is certainly more fun!
Cool video! I really enjoy watching your Versus videos! I've never been on either ride, but I'm hoping to finally go on the Tower of Terror someday. By the way, I have an idea for your Versus videos. What if you also compared lands such as Fantasyland, Disneyland vs. Fantasyland, Magic Kingdom, or any other lands. You could discuss differences such as theming, rides, shows, dining, and overall appeal. I know that's a lot of information and it might take some extensive research. But I'm only throwing it out there just incase your interested.
Thank you!!! I certainly hope you get to ride the Tower of Terror someday soon, it's an incredible attraction! But yes, that's a super awesome idea! And it's something I'm definitely planning on doing sooner or later. There's a whole lot to compare!
In round 3 for the preshow I respect your opinions but I going to say that the tower of terror has a better preshow in my opinion its make me think I am starting in a episode of the tv show
Bring back The Hollywood Hotel to California Adventure!! The ride is still fun, because it's still the same drop ride, but the new theme was just a cheap remodel. All Disney is worried about now is marvel. It's getting old. Glad to see Hollywood studios holding onto their tower for now.
Florida Tower of Terror takes the win. Me personally I dont really like the California version is because the ride is shorter than the one in Florida. I also dont like the design of the building, just think it looks stupid on the outside.
If it were DCA alone. Then Guardians beats Twilight Zone to a bloody pulp. But comparing it to Disney World Twilight Zone beats Guardians. This is only one of few times that WDW fans can say that they have the better ride. Hell WDW still has: Tower of Terror Country Bears MuppetVision Peoplemover But they are still weak compared to Tower of Terror of TokyoDisneySea
Disney World has a superior castle, a larger and much more elaborate Main Street, Peoplemover, Tower of Terror, a better Big Thunder (yeah, even without the special effects, it goes faster, has a better queue and a more elaborate exterior), and Happily Ever After smashes Disneyland’s current fireworks show. Star Wars in WDW will have a themed immersive hotel directly connected to the park, which will make it the superior version of Star Wars land. Not to mention the unique attractions like Flight of Passage (it may be the best attraction created by Disney recently).
We haven't experienced the Tower of Terror in Florida. Just the one in DCA. Personally, we prefer the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction. It's a lot of fun, thrilling and very hilarious as well. Always a must ride for us. Extra points for the Rocket animatronic, Marvel and Disney Easter Eggs and the Stan Lee cameo.
Here’s the thing: they really aren’t the same kind of ride at all despite both being drop towers (and reusing the same structure at DCA). ToT is a suspenseful fright experience, and it’s incredible. GotG is a rocking romp of fun. It’s also incredible. It’s like how more than one ride uses omnimovers. Just because the vehicle is the same doesn’t mean the experience is the same. Glad to have differences from park to park.
I also live in Washington and went to Disneyland for the first time last week (had only gone to Disney World before) I really like your videos! They are really well made and look polished and professional, really nice job! I'm binge watching your channel while the Post Disneyland nostalgia hits 😋
Ha just got back from Riding Guardians a few hours for the first time. The excitement alone makes it better than TOT. However, I feel its kind hard to compare the two. You have 1 that is a blast through and through. And one that is meant to scare the crap out of you. With Guardians tho, the adrenaline rush you get once it starts; coupled with the loud music and videos....it just makes you laugh and scream and fully enjoy every second of the experience. I wanted to get on again immediately after.
It's definitely a tough comparison, as each ride is trying to do something different, like you said. I totally agree though they Guardians is the more light/fun of the two!
Now if it was comparison to dw tower of terror and dca tower of terror. Dw would win but the experience and ride itself for gaurdians I would say gaurdians is better.
You forgot an important point. At first, I thought it was total bs when they said that you would get a random experience everytime you ride GOTG because they say the same thing about Indy and I can't really tell. In GOTG however you get a different drop sequence everytime, but not like only randomizing the order of the drops, but actually adding drops in some songs, so depending on the song you get, you may end up with a tamer version of the ride, or a super intense one. I can totally say it is true. We rode GOTG back to back and at first we got like 6 drops. Eith the song Free Ride I could count up to 8 or 9, and full on going to the top and then to the bottom. I thought it was bs but it is not. Obviously I loved Free Ride more. The other thing is while I am a purist of theming and making an extra effort to place attractions and theme them where they make sense, GOTG became a better experience for guests here because the TOT we got was already inferior compared to Florida's, but the thing is that guests seem to enjoy it more and kids give it a try. The ride experience is also very fun, so as much is I hate the exterior I must gruntly admit that GOTG is a better version of the previous TOT.
You got this one right and I'm going to hug for it props to you for recognizing the suspension and once again the classic feel the ride and Disney gives and with how very detailed TOT is and this is only watching videos of it as I didn't get to MGM Studios while I lived in Florida at that time Disney wasn't in our budget we went to Universal Studios that is whole another experience which is a fun one you should do a comparison on that Disney VS Universal but however driving past MGM Studios and looking at TOT I thought wow that looks like a cool experience points for Disney in Florida for originality
Tower of terror was the peak of Disney’s innovation mixed with detail and story. Replacing the ride was the biggest mistake Disney has ever made with a theme park. The problem is, the things people give guardians credit for, was already a feature of the previous ride. This was an experience turned into a cash grab
this is easy *TOKIO DISNEY SEA WINS* and i think CA took inspiration from disney sea but at the end it comes out with the tone, one is a comedy ride and the horror ride. but im not angry that GotG replaced ToT,is a simpsons ride situation.
I will forever miss DCA’s version of Tower of Terror. But Mission: Breakout is a great example of Disney Imagineering, Mission: Breakout will forever be better. But still, I miss Tower of Terror. But it makes me feel that the Tower of Terror’s layout was put to good use.
Yeah, also it’s much more exciting. It’s a feel of rush that attracts guests. Also, ever sense Guardians opened. I feel the queue moves much more faster. I remember being stuck out of Tower of terror for about 45 minutes, and just barley making it into the tower.
Tower of Terror was such a unique ride in its inception, to take a drop tower experience but do something special with it by giving it such immersive theming and an actual story, that I have to give credit where it’s due, but in terms of my personal opinion, I love GotG:MB. They took what is supposed to be a “scary” experience and actually made it fun and thrilling! I love music, so that also adds so much to the experience for me. Overall, I pick Guardians, but I understand why you chose ToT.
I love both. Guardians is a much more fun atmosphere, but the creepiness of Tower of Terror doesn't compare. The ride system in either rides are very different. Tower of Terror is technically pulling you faster than gravity. Guardians in a way does, but the ride vehicle is in a box where the box free falls, but the ride vehicle is being pulled down a bit inside the free falling box.
Tower of Terror is everything!! I actually like getting a birds eye view of the park from that drop tower though :) It would be awesome if you do Peter Pan's Flight VS Next!
Disneyland is so small they have to close and renovate old, sometimes reliable rides to stay up-to-date and relevant. These are two very different rides at this point. You can't compare them anymore.
Thanks, Disneylander for this awesome video I thought your opinions were kind of right and some were kind of wrong but overall I actually loved your opinions but I have to say I love Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout just a little bit better! 😉
Ever since guardians opened up the winner of this vs is now harder since DCA tower wasn't like the OG. Hopefully you can do IASW (small world) DL vs WDW
I haven't went on gotg but I know tower of Terror is awesome and was my favorite ride at Hollywood. It was the cast members that sold it to me the dude I had was just so in it and so mysterious that if I woke up at that second I would have believed him.
I went on guardians a few days ago and the cast member said “all lost items will go to the collection and all lost children will go to small world”
beautiful
So you’re telling me all the dolls in its a small world are children left behind on different rides?
That just ruined it’s a small world for me

GOTG. The exterior is fugly, but it makes ToT feel so tame now. I don’t even prioritize ToTanymore.
Do you guys have an Instagram
Yes! My insta can be found in the video description!
i 100% believe changing the west coast version to gotg was a great decision. it’s my favorite ride in the disneyland resort. however, i firmly believe tot in hollywood studios should never change. one, there’s alr a gotg in epcot so it wouldn’t make sense to make another one, and two, the cali version of tot was so much more lackluster than the florida version. the guardians theme better utilizes the ride system the cali version has the tot better utilized the ride system hollywood studios has. they’re similar, but the florida version has that really cool dark ride part that takes the lifts from the first shaft to the drop shafts.
Your videos are really so good I could've sworn you had at least 100k subs
Woah, thank you so much! I really appreciate it!!!
Once the Marvel Land at DCA is finished, GOTG will make more sense haha
I barely found youre channel and it is amazing! Thanks for the good Disney content keep up the great work
Thank you!!! I appreciate you!
Is the tower of terror in Florida still operational 🥺
Yes indeed it is!
@@Disneylander thank you
The Guardians queue also has tons of Disney Parks props & artifacts. You can find the original Matterhorn Yeti, the octopus from the Summer Holiday overlay of Country Bear Jamboree, and a Figment from the original Journey Into Imagination.
Rise of the Resistance vs Runaway Railway, please?
The tower of terror experience is supposed to be dark and not fun because it meant to be a scary experience
Petition for Disney to rename DCA to Disneyland Studios. It makes sense cuz they’re just getting rid of all the California theming
Tower of terror is so much better. No contest!
Could you compare the rise of the residents?🤔👍
Another hit video bro
One extra point im surpised not mention is guardian of the galaxy Monsters after dark with the queve being changed into a more creepy enviorment and cast members having a waaaay different attitude. Which means they technically have 7 different ways to ride the ride. Also I think that even though the collectors fortress is in hollywood but if you think about it. Its kinda like a museum in Hollywood but that may be a stretch. Imo I think GOTG is better than Tower Of Terror
Oh wow I forgot that existed! I've never gotten to do that myself, but it's definitely an awesome upgrade to consider
I love the way you make fun of yourself when you stammer your words lol
I like the tower of terror ride because of the story and the environment of the hotel
You should do another video on this! But with Guardians VS Old DCA Tower Of Terror
Yeah your right I did hate u after that one but I do agreeeeeeee about the OG tower of terror!
Even when the DCA building was tower of terror the drops were still more intense than the ones in Florida
What do you mean by “parliament”?
@@benjigirl1971, Parliament Funkadadic - Give Up the Funk. It's a popular song that plays during the ride. Some songs are more intense then others.
No horizontal 5th dimension part of the ride in California. That’s a deal breaker for me. It was also to loud and I don’t get the GotG theming.
I wish experience Tower of terror in Florida
I’ve only been to the France and California one
Do It's a Small World next.
In round 3 for the preshow I respect your opinions but I going to say that the tower of terror has a better preshow in my opinion its make me think I am starting in a episode of the tv show
you know if GOTG lost because of its line im fine with that. The ride is the only thing that matters anyway.
Thanks that was a really good video
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!
I hope they never retheme Tower of Terror it's my favorite ride.
Just saying no hate for florida u were talking ab california adventure
Thank you I was waiting for you to do this video
You got it!!!
What do you call tower of terror when it breaks down? Tower of error
Bring back The Hollywood Hotel to California Adventure!! The ride is still fun, because it's still the same drop ride, but the new theme was just a cheap remodel. All Disney is worried about now is marvel. It's getting old. Glad to see Hollywood studios holding onto their tower for now.
Rather have a fun GotG than an inferior copy of Florida’s ToT.
Florida Tower of Terror takes the win. Me personally I dont really like the California version is because the ride is shorter than the one in Florida. I also dont like the design of the building, just think it looks stupid on the outside.
Would you do top 5 rides at Disney California adventure
I went on guardians in June or July of last year
Great job!
California screaming (the incredicoster) vs rock n roller coster.
If it were DCA alone. Then Guardians beats Twilight Zone to a bloody pulp. But comparing it to Disney World Twilight Zone beats Guardians. This is only one of few times that WDW fans can say that they have the better ride. Hell WDW still has:
Tower of Terror
Country Bears
MuppetVision
Peoplemover
But they are still weak compared to Tower of Terror of TokyoDisneySea
I definitely agree with you there! Guardians of the Galaxy was certainly an upgrade from DCAs Tower of Terror, but Florida's ToT is a masterpiece!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you're enjoying the channel and I'll glad you got to experience the original Disneyland!!!
Dang, wish it was guardians of the galaxy... Good video tho👌
It was really hard to decide for me, but it's just my opinion in the end! Thanks a bunch!
The question is how is Tower of Terror different to Disneyland then WDW ? but how is it compered to the to each state ?
Love both for what they are but Guardians is much more exciting. I love it.
No, they took inferior version of ToT and did something new with it. Improvement, but they should never do that with Florida.
this is easy *TOKIO DISNEY SEA WINS*
and i think CA took inspiration from disney sea
but at the end it comes out with the tone, one is a comedy ride and the horror ride.
but im not angry that GotG replaced ToT,is a simpsons ride situation.
Awsome video! Hopefully we get to see the haunted mansion next!
What app do you use for editing?
I use Sony Vegas!
I will forever miss DCA’s version of Tower of Terror. But Mission: Breakout is a great example of Disney Imagineering, Mission: Breakout will forever be better. But still, I miss Tower of Terror. But it makes me feel that the Tower of Terror’s layout was put to good use.
I totally agree! As much as I miss having Tower of Terror in dca, Guardians was definitely well done
Yesss, it's so good!!!
Awsome video!!! I hope to see a haunted mansion video next
COSMIC REWIND is what DCA needs to bring back Twilight Zone Tower of Terror!
Hollywood in D World
🎉yay! Tower of terror for the win!🎉
Disneyland is so small they have to close and renovate old, sometimes reliable rides to stay up-to-date and relevant. These are two very different rides at this point. You can't compare them anymore.
I like Guardians of the Galaxy.
I love how you say tower of terror is better as if it’s a fact dude it’s an opinion
Thanks, Disneylander for this awesome video I thought your opinions were kind of right and some were kind of wrong but overall I actually loved your opinions but I have to say I love Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout just a little bit better! 😉
Hey thanks! That's totally fair, haha, mission breakout is an awesome ride!
I like the Twilight Zone tower of terror and the guardians of the Galaxy
Ever since guardians opened up the winner of this vs is now harder since DCA tower wasn't like the OG.
Hopefully you can do IASW (small world) DL vs WDW
Yeah, it's definitely a tricky comparison now!
But that's a good idea, I haven't given that one too much thought!
Yay tower of terror
It was a horrible idea to shut down the Hollywood tower hotel!!
It would be in FL, but the DCA version was vastly inferior. Glad they did something new and fun with it.
I haven't went on gotg but I know tower of Terror is awesome and was my favorite ride at Hollywood. It was the cast members that sold it to me the dude I had was just so in it and so mysterious that if I woke up at that second I would have believed him.
Absolutely perfect vs video.Tower of terror is better and I agree with all your points. Guardians looks good but Tower of terror is so much better
Guardians of The Galaxy Misson Breakout Is Better.
Guardians of the Galaxy (DLC) Has better drops
