My husband is a professional bassoonist and I'm a professional violinist, and THIS is FANTASTIC!!! We're close to the Air Force Academy and this is such an AWESOME cadre of musicians!! His "student teacher" Brian O'Donnell is now conducting for the Air Force in Germany!

If it helps, treble clef has a middle "B" as Alto clef has middle "C". So the middle of the treble clef is your first finger on your "A" string! Source: Am Viola player
If I was performing this, I probably would've whispered: "If I bang my head on this instrument a few times, I might die! Or maybe I might die from nervousness".
when you make it in to this band, you earn the rank of Technical Sergeant automatically. So yes, only NCOs. But some of them are literally fresh out of basic training
If memory serves, it was the introductory music to one of the National TV networks news programs--CBS or NBC--cannot recall which one. It intro'ed either Walter Cronkite or Huntley-Brinkley.
In the wind band arrangement that we are playing. It has the Bari sax on running sixteenths. At 144. In modulated arpeggios intermixed with runs. Needlessly to say I want to die
She told me one of them were "The ants go marching off one by one, off rock..." Something like that. If you know the lyrics (if there are any...) please tell me them in the REPLY section.
But please, if you can or have time, please learn the other lyrics. I would love to know the lyrics of one of the USA's most honored songs. (At least I think it's one of the most honored songs.)
It's a song from our Civil War in the 1800's. The lyrics are about wishing that the soldiers will come home safely. When Johnny comes marching home again, Hurrah! Hurrah! We'll give him a hearty welcome then Hurrah! Hurrah! The men will cheer and the boys will shout The ladies they will all turn out And we'll all be glad when Johnny comes marching home. The old church bell will peal with joy Hurrah! Hurrah! To welcome home our darling boy, Hurrah! Hurrah! The village lads and lassies say With roses they will strew the way, And we'll all be glad when Johnny comes marching home. Get ready for the Jubilee, Hurrah! Hurrah! We'll give the hero three times three, Hurrah! Hurrah! The laurel wreath is ready now To place upon his loyal brow And we'll all be glad when Johnny comes marching home. Let love and friendship on that day, Hurrah, hurrah! Their choicest pleasures then display, Hurrah, hurrah! And let each one perform some part, To fill with joy the warrior's heart, And we'll all be glad when Johnny comes marching home
When Johnny comes marching home again Hurrah! Hurrah! We'll give him a hearty welcome then Hurrah! Hurrah! The men will cheer and the boys will shout The ladies they will all turn out And we'll all feel gay When Johnny comes marching home. The old church bell will peal with joy Hurrah! Hurrah! To welcome home our darling boy, Hurrah! Hurrah! The village lads and lassies say With roses they will strew the way, And we'll all feel gay When Johnny comes marching home. Sergeant* Also, the USAF doesn't have a rank called, sergeant. It begins at SSgt, TSgt, MSgt, SMSgt, CMSgt. The only time you wouldn't greet an AF NCO as sergeant is if they were a Chief Master Sergeant, in which case they would be greeted as Chief.
I did music memory when I was in elementary for all three years. Now I am in high school and I got to perform this piece in an orchestra for the elementary kids in music memory.
I was once a young A1C in SAC. A mechanic. I still remember my sergeant telling me one night after an alert that if it were real and once the bombers were off, our next order of business would be to simply wait to get vaporized. Sobering thought. Don't try to tell me who has courage, and who doesn't.
Personally I feel the string section is too overpowering over the brass, which is the real section put to work in this piece. More brass, less strings and it would sound better for me
A fine performance. But can't you at least provide the name of the conductor or a list of the players. Just because you're in the military, you don't become a nameless hord. An orchestra is made up of individual players that should be given credit.
Here on UA-cam the videos of the civilian orchestras don't give the names of the musicians and many of the videos don't give the names of the conductors.

My youth orchestra just preformed this. What an honor to be in a full orchestra during the pandemic! 🎶
Cool! Stay safe out there.
That English horn solo is so great. As an oboe player, that's my favorite part of the piece.
When Johny comes marching home, Hurrah Hurra!!!!! AWESOME interpretation!!!!..Thanks for sharing!!
WOW!
My orchestra, the Southern Crescent Symphony is performing this at Spivey Hall this week. Can't wait!
Glorious. I grew up with this arrangement. Mom had it on an LP and I knew these kids would play it fabulously. Awesome arrangement by Morton Gould.

I played this it was so hard especially where the violas have switch to treble clef. And i was in middle school.
If it helps, treble clef has a middle "B" as Alto clef has middle "C". So the middle of the treble clef is your first finger on your "A" string!

My orchestra, the Bangor Youth Symphony, is performing this soon, and there's literally no way we could top this performance.

Niceville's Eagle Pride is playing this for their halftime show this season.
Also known as the song that is the bane of my existence. I still can’t play this 100% correctly

Make America Great Again With Korea. Everlasting Friendship With Korea.
Kim Jong Un is a fat joke who oppresses the North Korean people. It is together with American and Korean efforts to behead the tyrant.
We are playing this in my middle school symphony without it being arranged by any one
thats good
What a coincidence. The bassoon player in my high school band also has curly red hair.
She told me one of them were
"The ants go marching off one by one, off rock..."

Is it just NCOs that can join the band/orchestra?
Yes. And officers are the band/orchestra leaders. That's how it works.

are you in the army or something?
Chair does sound better, I guess.
But that would mean 1) they would be on land and 2) they would probably be on chairs,
hoping to move to some action.

Probably owing to mic placement.
On another note, is this Schermmerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville??
