      Yea I never understood that, not only with the government, but with some black celebrities. White ones too actually. Like Oprah’s school in Africa, why not a girls school in the states, if you want to build a legacy, create an academy where m/f alumni are changing the world long after you’re departed -or just a girls school like she ended up doin in SA.
      Maybe build a sports and entertainment complex in Chicago or wherever, with a video and music studio, computers, where kids and young adults are given free or discounted admittance for maintaining an adequate GPA in school/ college and a relatively clean record. The city or federal government might subsidize a thing like that, especially with a big name like Jay Z and Bill Gates, or Elon Musk -idk.
      You’d get major brownie points with the America public -you’d be their darling -and that’s got some power. Plus, it’s a drop in the bucket for these hundred millionaires, and multi-billionaires, with enormous trusts and charitable foundations.

      @skibadibop-yeaskitskatskat4454 5 років тому +1

      Don Dressel I know, for many at least. They say that Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, and a few other mega rich have pledged to donate nearly all their money upon their deaths.
      Still, Jay-z for instance, could get together his many celebrity and magnate friends, and could actually do some good for Chicago, Detroit,or Cleveland. Even Brooklyn, where Jay hails from and is part owner in Barclays, has seen an unprecedented spike in crime and murder this year.
      Set up a low income housing scheme, property is certainly available -and cheap; so the government would likely be amiable to such an idea. With that type of social currency, someone like Jay-z could become Mayor Shawn Carter within a decade or so. Maybe even Senator or higher, he already has mainstream legitimacy. Instead it’s always investing in fashion or sports. A record label, or a luxury car customization line -something which may be profitable -but does little good and is quickly forgotten. A school or monument however, a library or community center can rejuvenate a community; that is something that can remain for centuries, and turn a family to a dynasty.
      IDk, I don’t mean to be down on Jay-z, whenever I see him interviewed he seems like a nice enough guy. He likely does charitable things that I don’t even know about, but it’d be cool to see one of these celebrities or entrepreneurs -the ones constantly in the public eye -do something for poverty in America, regardless of the color of their skin or politics.

      Agree. Each generation loses more and more simple abilities to articulate themselves and be rational in their discussion it seems. The more and more we are glued to a cell phone or tablet or gaming device, or how many likes or dislikes we get on social media, the less real communication skills we are able to cultivate as individuals. It's sad.

    The state troopers used more ammo that week than necessary. Way more. I can't remember the number but if someone can look it up you'll be shocked. The Newark cops were not nearly as aggressive and handled things in a much less violent manner.
    I believe if the state police and the national guard were not called in by the Newark political leaders than this riot would not have been as bad.

    The democrats were in charge of the city government as well as the state government... both entities directed the national guard and the newark pd to use force in the in streets. With the help of the Newark Housing Authority they closed off the black communities by building the city jail in the heart of their neighborhood. The democrats are still to blame in my opinion for the divisions today. I was 20 years old living in Newark when all of this occured. There are many layers to this tragic story...they have yet to be uncovered.

    Right now in the year of 2,022 New Orleans, Louisiana is a whole lot more deadlier than Newark, New Jersey. When I first drove out to New Orleans,Louisiana, I stayed out in the N. O., LA. for a two week visit. You can feel the danger and sense the dangerous vibe of the City of New Orleans when you go out there to visit the town of New Orleans. The City of Newark is not even on The Top 50 Murder Capitals of The World List. It is Detroit,Ml., Saint Louis,Missouri, Baltimore,Maryland, and New Orleans, LA. that are all on that Top 50 Homicide Capital of The World List. I have been to Detroit & Saint Louis, MO. very frequently for over 25 years now(both of those Midwest Cities are even more deadlier than New Orleans). Baltimore is a lot worse than New Orleans is right now. I would rather reside in the City of Newark rather than to reside in the Cities of Saint Louis,Detroit, Baltimore,or New Orleans.

    This must have worked very well for the state, because they've used this same tactic, time and again, overseas when they want to instigate a violent coup d'etat against a government they don't like. 2002 in Venezuela, 2011 in Damascus, 2014 in Ukraine, and last year, 2021 in Lebanon.
