I wanted skaven before I saw the new treemen. I also like dark elves but I want to paint a more vibrant color army and I have my evil chaos space marines army in 40k already. I think wood elves look great
Am I the only person who prefers these models afer the wash steps (i.e. before the highlighting)? - 6:07 They look a lot more rustic and organic at that point, IMHO
With Warhammer The Old World releasing soon, have you thought about doing more of your awesome wood elf videos? I'd love to see you do a darker wood elf, more of an ambush archer in a tone darker. Also I'd love to see you combine the classic greens of wood elves with the colour blue.
I have to say thanks for the Army Painter brush suggestion I've seen on several videos - I ended up buying some and they've got a good price, keep a good tip, and I like how they're triangle shaped so they don't roll away.
This video inspired me to get back into the hobby after 7 years. Love the video, following your glade guard video now. Would love a Dryad guide! Thanks for inspiring me!
Cracking video. Really like the scheme you have chosen and hope to see more. In terms of models to buy just pick what you like, or just get 100 glade guard. That always works as a solid core :)
Beautiful paintjob on a beautiful model, these new elves looks like a real joy to paint and I'm really tempted to get some even though I don't play WHFB.
I'm new to Warhammer in general, and Wood Elves are the army that I'm going to be going for. I don't know if they are any good on the tabletop, but I really love the diversity of their models and the uses of colour that the pros are able to use. I think a good artist could have loads of fun with them, experimenting with different seasons to give totally different looks etc. Personal taste is always subjective though, but if you like them then I think you should go for it! (PS. More Wood Elf tutorials would be great, I'm not plagiarising I'm just... Taking inspiration! :3)
Yeah, out of all of the fantasy armies is the one that called to me aesthetically from a art possibilities point of view. although chaos did too because it's chaos. But I have a bunch of boxes of wood elves already waiting for me to start but because I don't have much space or foam yet to store them I am waiting a little bit while I paint my Chaos army. I think I can make tutorials on the different units because they are very different in color selections and would be worthwhile, while 40k armies for instance pretty much use the same colors throughout the army and if I do more than one tutorial about them I would end up repeating myself too much. Thanks for the comment mate I will definitely make some more wood elf tutorials soon :)
TheApatheticFish I'm just amazed that you took the time to read the comment. I'm sure it'll all become apparent eventually, but I'd love to see what you do with the treeman/dryad units. Would be neat to see a tutorial video about them that didn't involve an airbrush. :P
Fantastic tutorial. I will be trying your techniques and suggestions this week as I start me WE army. If you are looking for suggestions, I'd love to see how you would paint WE Rangers and/or how you would differentiate between glade guard, scouts, waywatchers, and the waywatcher hero without losing the armies colour theme.
Great work ! I really liked this tutorial. If you want to collect wood elves, the first step would be getting their army book. Wood elves are really awesome now in this book. I would aim for assembling a 500 point army to begin with , then adding on that. In my opinion, they are the best of the 3 type of elves in WHFB.
Yeah, I agree I should do some reading first. I was kinda excited for the wood elves release even though I don't know much about the game. I like dark elves too but I'm the bad guy already in 40k lol. Thanks for the help!
TheApatheticFish No Problem mate ! Any help I can give I am happy to :-) Also you might check out my channel, I have been building a dark elf army and it has grown pretty big. I have several videos showing them on youtube. Right now I am doing witch elves.
Hey man! i actually love ur videos, they are the best in terms of all the 40k painting guides on youtube. I request a tutorial to how to paint a lightening design, like to put on an eldar tank. freehand ofcourse but i need to know how a master like you would do it! LIGHTENING!
Wood elves are kinda hard to start out playing in fantasy, but very fun once you master them! My army is very dryad orientated but really glade riders and glade guard are really all you need. A tree man is a great starting warlord and so is orion but that's my preference
Don't get dryads is the best tip for a new player. You can make an easy to play shooty list that flees. Or a hard to play blitzkrieg list with all the new quick combat units like wildriders and warhawk riders and the like.
Thanks mate! Its a bit late though, I already have two boxes of dryads, they were 55% off so I couldn't resist. apparently no one wants them xD can they still be viable? cant they become good if you cast some spells on them or something? Thanks for the comment :)
I dunno if it's bc i love wood elves but, i loves this tutorial!! The miniature came out really really well. There are not too many fantasy painting tutorials (compared to 40K) so i hope u do some of these again, really inspiring mate. PD: If u want to collect Wood Elves to play them a nice start would be... another box of those Eternal guard, u can make a block of 20 (5x4) to have a defensive option...and ofc you will have to get some Glade Guard (because wood elves are based on light shooting basically). For your ""HQ"" i would take a look to the spellsingers and the waystalkers (awesome models and good ones in terms of play). The new box of stag raiders, both options are competitive (either wild hunters or sisters) and finally Eagles and Waywatchers again are both excellent options. Maybe you can start from there, starting with Glade Guard and Eeternal Guard (even glade riders if u like them), then the Heroes and Commander, and after that aim for the most you like. PD: I'm spanish so if u dont understand well what i tried to say, i apologize XD. Me not talk Engrish well x-x
Yo hablo español pero latino. I think you gave me a pretty good Idea on how to start. My problem was that I dont know how big are the formations usually. I think I should start by getting the book. How big would the glade guard have to be? I want them and some treemen, maybe durthu or an ancient. Thanks for the help :)
TheApatheticFish I would play them as small units of 10 (5x2) up to 18~20. If you have some questions about units or the army don't hesitate on asking.
Pretty nice but if you wanted an elf in tabletop standard i would really recommend either basecoating with cadian fleshtone or kislev flesh instead of bugmans glow, cause a tanned elf just isn't right :p
He looks awesome! Great tutorial too :). MrMalorian has done a few videos on UA-cam for Wood Elves, including a book review, some battle reports and tactical videos. I strongly recommend them! Good luck!
Really love your video's as they helped me so much with my own painting if you get the chance I would really love to see how you a paint a Crimson Fists marine. Keep up with the good work :)
Just like to say this is a fantastic tutorial btw. It inspired me to get a pack of these Wood Elf Eternal Guards and I'm really enjoying painting them. Will you be doing more WOdd Elf tutorials? Treeman maybe?
Great video ,I have a vast amount of unpainted figures after a Break from the Hobby . Skaven and Hich Elves from the Island of Blood set and other Historical Napoleonic Figures 6mm 28mm. cheers alex mc.
I think you need to start off at a not so large army, but with one that has different models. As it is now, I'm not the best Fantasy player, but have played Wood Elves for quite some time. With all the models that are out there, I would start with something like: Spellsinger Glade Guard Eternal Guard Wild Riders (awesome models) Waywatchers Out of this you can make a competitive list for low point games. Btw, loved the tutorial, I just bought some Eternal Guard a few days ago, and will surely be using This tutorial.
Are treemen good? I want to get at least a couple. not sure if I'm going to go for durthu or an ancient or just regular treemen. I'd have to read to know what I like best. I'm thinking for now a couple of squads of glade guard, a 20 man unit of eternal guard. some character probably the spellsinger and maybe some treemen? I haven't read anything yet though but I'll take a look on the wild riders and waywatchers. thanks for the help and the comment :)
TheApatheticFish Treemen are really awesome, but you can't use them in low point games since rare units and lords/heroes only are allowed to occupy 25% of your army. I myself have been running this list: Spellsinger (spellweaver??) W/ level 2, asrai longbow, lore of shadow 12 Glade Guard 20 Eternal Guard 5 Wild Riders 5 Waywatchers It's a really good list, Spellweaver/Spellsinger (can't remember) hangs out with glade guard at the back and rebuffs targets. PM me If you want to know more, not that I know more than all the other people that have written to you ;)
Labais7 Seems pretty straight forward. I think I will follow your template and expand from there. How many points are those. I have a treeman already. I wanted to make it an ancient. But Im not sure. Durthu seems way expensive but very aggresive. The ancient looks like a great support character
TheApatheticFish Sorry about the late answer. I don't have the codex around right now, but the Treeman is about 250, and the Treeman Ancient is about 300, Durthu is a really nice Lord and can do lots of damage. So if you'd want a Treeman, then either go for a 1000 point army, or a 1250 point army. You can PM me if you want. Regards
you mentioned you used ushabti bone for the base paint of the shield but held up zandri dust which one did you use ? and when you dry brushed it you said you used ushabti bone again but held up screaming skull so which one did you use ?
Thanks Marc! the music for my videos is in the description. The name is HItman by Kevin Macleod at Incompetech.com a lot of people who do videos on youtube use his music. Glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for the comment! :)
Oh I didn't realize the music that plays at the very beginning where it says "founding member of legion of gamza" was a part of the kevin macleoud song. Thanks!
need to use wood elves. as heroes. Spellweaver few points 1 for 2 for bigger armies points. (Always be a leader of the army that the Elves are a magical race with shadow magic) Waywatcher Lord for sniper. common. Glade Guard base your army soldiers will be your most used and many of the game. special. Wild Riders is always very good use in game. Sisters of the Thorn. are not bad a good option. rare. Waywatchers. the best scouts warhammer you just said that. Treeman. very good always takes 1 or 2.
Hey very nice video. What drying retarder did you use to thin down your color for the age Highlights. I'm in Colorado and here the air is so dry that is very hard to keep the color in the right conditions just with water... it's drying out so qucik
Thank you very much!!! A great tutorial!!!! It would be better if we can see more Wharammer battle's tutorial ^^! but thank you for this great work! (Sorry for my bad English, Im french... ^^)
yeah, pretty much. they're still a good range but its a little bit harder to use. and because my tutorials are for helping others I am trying to keep things simple. although using liquid gold on this miniature would look pretty cool. I would encourage using it if you can.
I also just wanted to say thank you....your tutorials really made me feel like I could paint a "good" looking model and I'm pleased with the results in my chaos armies. One question though, I noticed that with the liquid gold color "old gold' it isn't as bright of a gold color on the black legion...any suggestions?
I thin them about 50/50 or 1:1 is the same thing. some paints are diffferent than others. just try to not use them straight from the pot. I would suggest just finding the right amount that feels good for you. and try not to move the color around once it's on the miniature drying. because it can be the case that you tear drying layers of paints and create crumbs and brush strokes. if your first layer doesn't cover well is totally fine, let it dry and apply a second one. If you tamper with it while it's drying you will break that layer
I have no idea what to choose or play for WHFB Wood Elves (never played the game), but I do enjoy your painting tutorials. Keep them coming!
I wanted skaven before I saw the new treemen. I also like dark elves but I want to paint a more vibrant color army and I have my evil chaos space marines army in 40k already. I think wood elves look great
Really liking your Wood Elfs mate. I'm a big fan of the Elven armies and would highly recommend them to anyone, keep up the good work.
Am I the only person who prefers these models afer the wash steps (i.e. before the highlighting)? - 6:07
They look a lot more rustic and organic at that point, IMHO
I've never done artistry like this (miniatures or painting thereof), but you make it look so easy. total respect to your craft!

This is the best painting tutorial I've ever seen. So helpful and informative. Thank you :)
Very nice paint job on the wood elve. Thanks
Excellent! Hope you do some more wood elves painting guides! Would love to see some more!
yes, I want to at least make a glade guard and a dryad. But I need to save a bit of money to buy them still. Thanks for the comment :)
Great tutorial mate, the mini looks awesome
Cheers Nick! :)

Just started wanderers/sylvaneth and man oh man you’ve proven that your worth a sub
Awesome tutorial. Thank you very much!
Oh man, that looks so fun to paint!
Love the model and the way it turned out after you painted it :)

Thanks Eric! I will keep it up :) thanks for the comment!
Fantastic paint job, great tutorial. Subbed.
Now you do Battle? Hell yeah! Keep it up mate!

Very well done!

California elf dude!
would love to see more wood elves painting :))
He looks awesome! Great tutorial too :). MrMalorian has done a few videos on UA-cam for Wood Elves, including a book review, some battle reports and tactical videos. I strongly recommend them! Good luck!
I would like to see when you paint the ordinary units that wears spears.
Don't know if I am suppose to glue the spears or not,
Can you please do a dryad paint tutorial. Your doing real good man
thanks for all the help, could you do a Bretonnian knight of the realm tutorial?
Wanting to paint these in red, Orange, brown and cream tones. Not sure how to do it though
Check out the Scibor Miniatures elves as there are atleast 2 you could use as alternatives to the GW ones
Really love your video's as they helped me so much with my own painting if you get the chance I would really love to see how you a paint a Crimson Fists marine. Keep up with the good work :)

Do the Sisters of the Thorn. I'm working on that set right now and just the stags alone are amazingly beautiful
Great video ,I have a vast amount of unpainted figures after a Break from the Hobby . Skaven and Hich Elves from the Island of Blood set and other Historical Napoleonic Figures 6mm 28mm. cheers alex mc.
Nice stuff.
Thanks Frank! :)
Realy nice work :)
Absolutely wonderfull!!!
awesome video, please please please paint some more woodelves... also maybe high elves ;)
Awesome as always :)
Thank you very much :)
Nice job ! Congratulations. Do you dilute the colors with water ? Thx
Subscribed man! I like wood elves and really like your channel!
Keep up the good work:)

I've been hoping you would post a vid about wood elves. Thanks man! BTW what is the opening music that you use? It's effing rad.
Thanks Marc! the music for my videos is in the description. The name is HItman by Kevin Macleod at Incompetech.com a lot of people who do videos on youtube use his music. Glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for the comment! :)

Waywatcher Lord for sniper.
Thank Hugo, you really gave me something to think about. :)
great job man ! :)
I love your colour consistency. Are you useing water to thin them down?
Thanks in advance!
Hey very nice video. What drying retarder did you use to thin down your color for the age Highlights. I'm in Colorado and here the air is so dry that is very hard to keep the color in the right conditions just with water... it's drying out so qucik
next video painting wood elves wildwood ranger
Thank you very much!!! A great tutorial!!!! It would be better if we can see more Wharammer battle's tutorial ^^! but thank you for this great work!
(Sorry for my bad English, Im french... ^^)
Genial yo tb tenia silvanos en el juego de mesa , a ver cuando los tenemos para el total war warhammer.saudos

Epic
warhammer video with MTG music XD so good,.
good tutorial :)
Awesome :)
wuhuuu, normaly i dont like this treeloving guys , but this one looks quite epic! good job
Lols! Thanks mate! But as I see it it looks like an army of legolas haha how can you not love that? Lol. Thanks for the comment!
best quote of gimli to legolas "this one also only counts as one!" ;D
WarPainter lol. legolas is so OP haha. I like that and the D&D feywild kinda theme.
Starting with fantasy is easier than 40k
Get a rulebokk and the armybook and start reading your way through the books
Yeah, I think thats the most sensible way to start. Thanks mate! :)
have you stepped away from using the vallejo liquid gold paints?
yeah, pretty much. they're still a good range but its a little bit harder to use. and because my tutorials are for helping others I am trying to keep things simple. although using liquid gold on this miniature would look pretty cool.
Great tutorial, your videos are cool, i subscribe to your channel :D
ushabti bone is missing from the list
How much do you thin your paints down? I try to thin mine but they never come out as smooth as that
I thin them about 50/50 or 1:1 is the same thing. some paints are diffferent than others. just try to not use them straight from the pot.
That's a good tip thank you for the help :)
E P I C
im gonna use this tutorial for my wood elves.thanks alot :-)
Woodprix is nice for that.
Zoolander paints Warhammer???
Thank you
