Hunting on a Mountain top and camping.
Isaac got in touch and had a good plan for a Mountain Hunt. We were being picked up by Helicopter and dropped into the Southern Alps of New Zealand where we made a base camp.
The plan was to look for Chamois, Red Stags or Tahr. Snow and cold conditions meant for harsh camping but it all adds to the experience.

Where I live (BC, Canada) it's illegal to use helicopters to transport hunters or game. Back in my salad days, I slogged up and down mountains in the northern BC Rockies, carrying a heavy pack with all my gear to set up a spike camp. Getting dropped off by helicopter would have been a dream come true. Not having to slog out the game would have been sweet.
One trip, I was three days of hiking away from the lakeside base camp when I saw the world's biggest bull moose (in my eyes). It looked like it had a couple of sheets of plywood for antlers. HUGE!!
But getting it out would have taken about four or five trips, at least four days each. So I wished it well, told it to make all kinds of baby moose and said good-bye.
Trips like your talking about mean you can look back on and realize you earnt it! I have many bucketlist hunts I want to go on over in your great country. One day if the travel opens up I hope I get the opportunity to do so. Thanks for the comment and I appreciate you reaching out Stephen.

Awesome vid lads! I’d say we were up in gods country at the same time. Scenery looked the same, weather looked the same, the frozen tarn looked the same, chammy looked the same, range was almost the same (350m), sunset looked the same and even had a similar night lapse! 😂

Isaac is running a 6.5 PRC, nice cartridge for the longer shots really good trajectory, have you used one before?

That PRC has great ballistics. I have not shot a 6.5 PRC but I have shot a couple other 6.5 cartridges. My brother loves his 6.5x284 and he takes it out for most everything that we shoot here in deer sized game. I like my good old 7mm RM. I had my current favorite rifle built on an old Rem 700 action. The cartridge and action were introduced the same year that I was born. I was for a while thinking about a 30 PRC but to tell the truth I have no real use for it. I own 8 other 30 cal rifles that I hardly ever take out as it is.
I havent had any experience with a 30 PRC, sounds interesting. What part of the world are you? What type of Deer do you hunt normally?

West coast of the USA. Black tail and mule deer, elk and antelope, hogs.

Right on thx i just picked up a christensen arms Ridgeline in 6.5 prc im running 156 berger eol so far.
Wasn't aware the eols had made it here yet waiting on a batch as we speak bit more whack for bull tahr with the 157s and the prc will handle them no problem if you've got a barrel with a 1:8 or lower twist rate
Im from upper bc Canada hopefully this year ill get a nice stone sheep and maybe a nice mule deer with it for elk i use my 338 edge with 270 eldx or my 28 nosler with 195 grain bergers
