The last thing you want to do is fill a check out with dye based ink but the signature of the check's owner in pigment based ink. Once washed the thief has the original signature and can change the rest of it for nefarious purposes. Use pigment based ink for the entire check.
You do realize that they used both types of ink on the check to SHOW you that the pigment ink stays and the dye based ink dissolves in the acetone right? Didn't think someone would be so confused by that.
God people in the comments are idiots... The OBVIOUS THING he is trying to teach y'all is to WRITE THE WHOLE CHECK WITH THE 207!! THAT WAY NOTHING CAN BE REMOVED!!
That's it. I'm signing all my checks with a 207. That way, if a criminal washes them, they'll get a blank check with my real signature on it, meaning they won't have to forge it themselves! What a timesaver!
Use the pigmented ink for the amount & receiving party info but SIGN with the dye-based so when some arsewipe steals & washes it all he removes is the *signature* !! - hahahaha
@@rennovattio7818 - the check thieves use adhesive tape to cover the signature area both front and back so that the chemical bath does not affect the signature. The payee and amount areas are what require use of indelible ink.
So, make out the check and amount with the 207 but sign it with a regular pen. If they wash it, the check and amount is still made out to whoever but your signature goes away. Bam!
Some of the comments confused me, but I figured it out. Write everything in 207 don't mix, so they can't copy your signature or change the amount. If you use an ordinary pen, they can choose to copy as well as wash away what was written.
Haven't written a check in years. I have credit card payments, utilities, rent, cable, phone, etc all on autopay. And one result is a credit score in the 800's.
Ok so here is a naive question I'm sure. The crook has to deposit that check into an account. How does she not leave a trail that leads to her? You need valid ID to open an account. Right?
The crooks make up a sob story to some idiot that will listen, and asks you to cash it for them by signing it over to you. They may say they owe money to the bank so they can't cash it, or they're homeless and need to feed their kids, that's just one example, they do lots of things with checks.
Tombow blue and black rollerball refills are pigment as well. I did the acetone test with both, and the writing stays put. I have no idea about the red, but I don't buy that color refill.
All comparison videos I have seen compare uniball signo 207 to an old-style (and probably halfway dried up) Bic ballpoint pen, and only with respect to one property: ink-resistance to washing with acetone or related chemicals. What about other kinds of pens? What about waterproofness? (Uniball signo is not waterproof.) What about ability of a pen to make carbon copies (for checks with “duplication” paper attached) ?
I ended up here 14yrs after this video was made - trying to explain to my 15 yr old what a check was and how to fill it out. He zoomed in to look at the account number and info and took a snap shot still image copy of the signatures to prove it was stupid to write a check at all, and to tell me it was stupid to allow adults to upload videos.
That is why you should have signature that is virtually impossible to snapshot properly. Because noone would take printed variant and person won't be able to properly sign way you do making it look like not real stuff. P.S. Checks aren't a thing in my country anyways.
As a analogy of the dye, imagine you have a bucket full of dark grey pebbles, but they're all covered in mud. Mud stuck to the pebbles, is like individual dye molecules stuck to the larger paper fibers. You can wash the mud away, because it can disperse into water without disassembling the pile of pebbles. The particles are small enough to easily slip back out from between the pebbles. Likewise, dye can disperse into solvent molecules, and be carried through and away from the forest of paper fibers. As a analogy of the pigment, imagine you have dark grey pebbles, and some bright red pebbles that are small enough to fit between the larger ones. You pour the red pebbles into the bucket, and most of them settle through the cracks between the larger grey ones. No amount of rinsing will separate them, because pebbles won't liquify in water. Unless you grab every pebble out one at a time, you're not separating them easily without removing everything into individual pieces. Likewise, removing pigment flakes from paper fibers, one at a time, would be nearly impossible without practically infinite time on your hands, and some nanomachines. Doing so would still destroy the paper as you'd have ripped it apart into microscopic pieces. Paper's actual structure is like laying a forest of random strings on top of each other and pressing it flat. The liquid the pigment ink is mixed with lets it easily flow and settle between these stringy layers of paper fibers, and get trapped between them, just like the smaller red pebbles fell through the cracks in the grey pebbles in the bucket. This is about the best I can explain it without some fancy 3D animations. This is also very close to how air flows through a air filter, and leaves dirt particles behind in the stringy forest of fibers. They just get stuck, but the air fits through.
@@theLuigiFan0007Productions Wow, thank you for the detailed and easy to understand explanation! This makes sense now and I also like the comparison to air filters
Ahem, from Wikipedia: Acetone can be found as an ingredient in a variety of consumer products ranging from cosmetics to processed and unprocessed foods. Acetone has been rated as a GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) substance when present in beverages, baked foods, desserts, and preserves at concentrations ranging from 5 to 8 mg/L. Additionally, a joint U.S-European study found that acetone's "health hazards are slight." I think you're confusing it with acid.
Not that I doubt this experiment, but it would help "sell" it's authenticity if he opened a fresh thing of nail polish remover to prove he was actually putting the 2nd check in the same substance.
