As sad as her treatment is, I think if we look back at the time she lived, that was probably a life saver. I can’t imagine a peasant who was born with this condition would ever get to live. Sadly people with conditions like this were treated as more of oddities that royalty liked to have around, but it beats being drowned in the well by a parish priest or thrown on a bonfire because your seen as being tainted by the devil. If anything this is an amazing achievement that someone with a condition like this got to live at all.
Yes! Not only she is portrayed in great dignity but by painting the document as well she is clearly saying that she's a human being and should be treated as such. I love Lavinia Fontana
The family lived at Schloss Ambras, near Innsbruck in Austria. Some of her siblings also had the condition, which is sometimes called Ambras syndrome. I have visited the castle, and there are several portraits of the family.
I heard the story of a man with this same condition who was educated in the royal courts. And then later they found a beautiful french girl for him to marry without telling her about the man's physical features. But to their surprise she didn't oppose when she married him but lived and gave birth to three kids but sadly the kids were taken as exotic gifts to the royals. That this is where the inspiration of Beauty and the Beast came from. I am not sure whether this is one of them??
Poor poor darling darling soul . I think sometimes I have it hard & feel self pity .. no ! Iam so lucky . I live in a free country, I have food , clothing, family & friends & love . No famine or war . No gangs of men marauding murdering pillaging & raping . Sometimes I find it so hard to have faith in the future for humans. But there are many out there full of compassion & selfless heroism . 🦄💜
People in the past with Hypertrichosis must’ve been ridiculed constantly. Probably why they got smushed in with superstition and myth surrounding lycanthropy. These were just people trying to live a normal life, being dehumanised for their looks. Awful. Hope that she had a good life.
curious that this condition is still present today in latin cultures- if it’s documented in others I stand corrected but from what I’ve seen it’s only a trait passed down through generations of people of hispanic extraction more importantly • this is such a beautiful portrait, obviously done with a lot of care + intention to show this precious little girl in the warm light of love her family obviously had for her + it’s reflected in her sweet face
i feel excessive hair growth is something that happens in all cultures. i’m a mix of european, middle eastern, and asian heritage and i have chest hair as a woman. my mom has to shave her beard. my family doesn’t have any history of this condition as far as i know, we’re just really hairy.
@@bloom7204 a quick Google or wikipedia search would answer your question, I did so and found a result in less than a minute. "The hairy family of Burma" is an example. They're Burmese, so no connection to Latin America or Hispanics as a whole.
@@bloom7204 I think it is hypertrichosis, there was a family in Burma that was affected in 1800s. And there is a woman in Thailand with the condition as well.
Aw. Her parent must have loved her enough to keep her at her proper station despite societal pressure to send her away. If she had only been in the care of a nursemaid, I'm not sure she could have been dressed and painted so lovingly.
Her father had the same issue and from what ik 4 out of 7 kids had it too, including this little miss. Her father was treated more like an experiment by some king who got him as an "exotical gift". They made him into a "noble" man and gave him a wife that actually (at least they say) loved him. He died quite old too, but sadly the kids affected by this were not treated like humans by society
This painting is also very familiar to those who played Layers of Fear. But I prefer the story behind it than how the painting is portrayed in the game. I also saw it in the castle of Blois!
Love it when those living in hierarchy and guided by dominance instinct call others "animals". That's every fascist stereotype tbh, just a reflection of them
Can you pls make a vedio on shree krishn the all mighty god when in his childhood days used to steal butter from gopis of his village while being aware he is god . When he is in his village he forgets that he is god and dose mischievous acts and pranks like kids totally out of love for the people of that village .
So why does the do they have the last name Gonzalez if they gave him a name after they got them... Is this in Spain when possibly I think it was India or Persian empire or something was in control of Spain.
Green eyes are the rarest but considered the most beautiful so why is this seen as anything but gene expression, today? It’s truly odd to me that our eyes cause us so much unnecessary struggle as a species. People are people.
She was taken from her parents and gifted to others as an exotic gift, just like her father was…
The story behind the painting is much sadder.
So sad
I hope she was able to find some happiness in her life. At least this artist seems to approached her with respect and kindness.

I think the Mexican acrobatic family with the condition are relatives, descendants of a colonial cousin.
What's the story

I love how the painter treated her as human and someone beautiful, not just something to be gawked at.

lol “something”
Damn now I suddenly wanna read some sort of outcast fiction, or maybe someone's tragic biography or something.
I love her and this painter. I like to imagine he treated her with great kindness during this sitting and made her feel pretty. ❤
Oh yeah, that’s what happened! 🤦🏻♀️🤣
@bodhiswayze1892, i think he probably just did his job and nothing more, nothing less. Was commissioned to put all of those details
She looks like a doll and not a real person.
The painter was a woman. Her name is literally in the description, no need to call her "he"
@ thank you for pointing this out! I missed it unfortunately. It certainly explains the humanity of the artist’s approach. ❤️

Didn’t one of them immigrate to the Mexico colony?
Do you know, what happend to them?
Did they ever found love?
She glows warmth and wisdom. I hope she led a fulfilled life rich in endeavors and philisophy.
Probably. She was taken from her parents though and given away like property. I’m sure she would’ve like her parents more than education.
Her eyes exude gentleness ❤
Poor baby. What a beautiful and touching painting 🎨.
That's one very sympathizing piece of art.
I bet she was so kind.
Glad she was treated with respect by the artist.
shes so adorable :(
She is beautiful.
She was just a girl too 🥹❤️🌸
She's adorable i love her 💓 and not in a seeing a puppy way but as an actual adorable human way
Very informative! Thank you! ❤
She seems so lovely ❤️
This was wholesome to see.

We’re fortunate. Difficult to remember sometimes.
It is Antonietta Gonsalvus, Gonzales/González is the spanish name, but she was french after all
Such detail!

It appears in other cultures, but latin cultures have a higher rate of it.
@ oh really - which other cultures?
+ if you can point to any documentation, I’d be grateful for the information

Parents of these individuals viewed the world as the ultimate wildness and wholeheartedly wished for their offspring to survive..
The letter doesn’t show her literacy, it’s a discription of where she came from, her father who also had the condition, and such.
So sad. It amazes me how many awful things ppl can get that make their lives hell.😢
And even still today.
I'm glad not everyone was so superstitious at that time. The painter clearly knew she was human

Her dad was 16 when she was born...
I was about to comment that she looks like a cute kitten... Then the last sentence made me change my mind.
W for Artist
Sad story behind this
She wasnt given as a gift her father was that why she has the nobility her father was gifted to a court nd was educated nd then had children
Does anybody know the title of the song playing or which artist it’s by? It’s pretty-I need info so I can find where to hear more!
Awwwwww she is super cute.....look at her... adorable tooter....god love her and protect her
And we are still shallow as hell.
Her parents may have been the inspiration for Beauty and the Beast
She looks sweet :)
Fontana was a girl’s girl for this one.

before there was cats the musical there was this
And yet they still showed her off like a prize cattle

Gostaria de te.la conhecido .e dizer voce e linda!
How Frieza saw prince Vegeta
I thought this was fake and just part of the game layers of fear
Well she didn't go to public school otherwise she wouldn't have that smile on her face.
🙄
Bloodborne is real?

I don't know why but I think of a kitty so she's cute ok
La mujer gato 🐱.
I'm not hearing anyone out
Bro ain't she a child 💀
@goats4life323 Oh hell nah 💀💀💀
Poor girl
Likely? nah I'm sure she was a furry for another reason

God bless you Jesus loves you all! Go to Him He loves you all so much that He died so that sinful humanity could go to heaven.
Khajit irl
Jesus Christ loves us all, regardless of our appearance. We are creatures of god. I wish people would consider that before being harsh to one another.
It's not actually all that sympathetic, the letter she is holding says her father was a monkey 😬
You can't fool me she a khajiit !
the first furry
Lol, lmao even
Bro just get out
My last name is gonzales weird coincidence
What happened to her later? I googled her and only found the portrait so im wondering.
