Pay Off the Mortgage or Not?

Should I use some of my buyout money to pay off the mortgage to reduce our monthly expenses which would allow me to consider jobs with less income?

Unfortunately the wife can't claim on her earned social security benefit and then move to his later- the ability to do that has been phased out (at least while they are both alive). ☹️ If he predeceases her, she can "take over" his benefit as survivor's benefit (she will get the full amount of what he was getting as long as she waits until her FRA (full retirement age). That's another good reason for him to put off collecting until age 70- the survivor benefit for his wife will be maximized.
