- Ex-FRU agent handler "Will Britten" (alias) actively ran and recruited agents in South Armagh, one of the most dangerous places to be a British soldier during the conflict, in the 80s and is the author of "The Deadly Game".
Due to security reasons he cannot appear on camera.. apologies for not having the usual experience.

South Armagh PIRA didn’t target innocent civilians?? What about the Kingsmill massacre??
Problem with that is one of the people who shot the workers is a suspected British agent - also responsible for the 3 Scottish soldiers killed. Ex-Paratrooper to boot.
I'm sure Alan Black has stated that he knows he won't get justice because of that/collusion.

I did a tour of Cross/ S.Armagh in 83/84 , two of my mates lost Brothers killed on our previous tour, but i have to agree with him here , s.armagh "had a go" and took us on
I am almost finished his book, very insightful. Don't blame him for not showing his face in this podcast. In terms of what iv read and learnt in recent years, the FRU were sentimental in helping to defeat the provos, and I believe their work in part amongst others drove them to the negotiating table, whereby the 'Republic' was not even on the table.
I read once that they tried to fire a SAM but it failed to fire and the cause was faulty or dead battery packs in them but I am sure their engineers could have solved that problem. SAMS were not the only things that could be used against helicopters though, RPG-7's, heavy calibre machine guns, heavy calibre sniper guns, homemade exploding projectiles... The SAM's were a boost in morale for the IRA and a psychological threat, even when not being utilized to pilots and those onboard the aircraft.

Sounds as if Will Britten was a member if SAB , no wonder FRU could not defeat them . He just has not a notion .
Farmers and smugglers were far too clever for to be defeated by idiots like Will , oh and a lot of money was made during the campaign .
John has the hots for SAB , he easily dismisses Kingsmills , Tullyvallen , Darkley and the ethnic cleansing .
Overall SAB were a well motivated , well organised , well equipped murder machine , who gave it their best shot and were still defeated . South Armagh is still British and whatever tax they pay , if any , goes to the British Purse .
That was the final outcome , all the poor people who met untimely deaths at he hands of SAB , really died for nothing , including their own members .
The prestige narrative offered to SAB , is partially true , to the extent that they fought a long disciplined war and were in a position of strength even at end of the campaign . They let their image down by engaging in fully sectarian attacks against totally innocent civilians .
Surely if they were men of principle , they would reveal where they buried the remainder of the poor souls that were disappeared into the bogs of Ireland . Maybe that does not fit into their 2024 image .
What do you think John or Will or does that go against your book selling narrative ?
It's far from over, once the police are dealt with here in England, they'll bring in the army, and when they're occupied here, it'll start again in Ireland.

Obviously there was casualties but why give a warning if civilians were the target.

London financial district was hit for a reason and regrettably 2 people were killed. This isn’t up for debate.

@@melissabyrne8749 I promise you I don’t delete comments.. UA-cam is unbelievably heavy handed with removing comments if they have words/terms that they don’t like, even if it’s just something innocent that might be wrongly perceived as being violent or offensive or whatever.
