  • Part 1 of 3. This past weekend was the first photo charter for the newly restored C&O 1309. Trains Magazine ran a wonderful charter, and just as they had promised, we all left with full memory cards. So full that one video for the entire weekend would be way too long. So I plan on uploading 3 main parts organized as Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, plus a few single clips afterwards. For part 1, we enjoyed a night run to Frostburg behind 1309, only the second time this locomotive had ever been run the length of the line, the first time being earlier that week as a test-run. There were no run-bys planned for the evening and it was just meant to be a fun ride to get us excited for the weekend. However, the railroad did have a surprise in mind for us: the leased Western Maryland diesels from Precision would meet us in Frostburg, pose for some photos, and then lead us back down the grade to Cumberland. Overall it was a great night and was only a tease to the fun weekend we had ahead. Parts 2 and 3 will be much longer and take a bit longer to edit, so keep an eye out for those towards the end of this week. Also, I forgot to thank the Precision team at the end of this video, so thanks to the Precision team for their help and leasing their beautiful diesels.

What was the flashing lights from? Did something happen? Your video is great, can't wait for the next two.

The Frostburg fire department was on hand each day to help refill 1309's tender and so their firetruck made for some interesting lighting that night.
