For this week's 3D printing showcase, we test print some of the beautiful tabletop terrain pieces from Weta Workshop sculptor Johnny Fraser-Allen's Hagglethorn Hollow! These miniature buildings are directly sourced from Johnny's gorgeous sculpts, scanned and optimized for filament printing. We print both FDM and resin samples from this modular set, and talk about how to print directly on the build plate and avoid artifacts like the dreaded elephant's foot. Check out Hagglethorn Hollow in the last few days of its campaign!

These miniatures are so gorgeous - the detail is incredible!
Johnny Fraser-Allen is incredibly talented and passionate about this project and I'm glad it's finally coming to full fruition! Came out great from what they show here
I have been waiting for this kickstarter since your first video. Just got an Ender 6 I am going to use to print these on.
This is awesome! Now just need to print friends to play with.
For fitment, both surfaces should have a hemispherical divet in various places that accepts a spherical bead, like you might use in sand casting.
Then the models can be rotated as desired and finally locked-in place as required, ie balls only, glue, gum, etc.
I've backed the kickstater now I just need to get a 3D printer.
These are amazing!
Yaay, Tested finally got to handle these buildings 😉
haha! that wasn't what it looked like, have laughed with Adam about that, I just got confused about what piece came next and it looked like I was taking them off him haha
@@johnnyfraser-allen3478 It was fun to watch 😁 great work on the models 👍
@@johnnyfraser-allen3478 Nice work on the models Johnny, I can't wait for these things to print! This is why a bought a printer!!
too cool, love it
Hey Norm, we tried to reach you, but with no luck :)
how about euhm miniature carnival rides or like themepark ride, or what would you need to keep in mind designing a themepark ride or attraction. like pirates of the carribean in space (lame)example XD
really interested in what you think
I agree with wishing they catered more to resin printers. Most of these files are useless to me with just having an elegoo mars which sucks cause if they were cut and prepped for the mars I'd definitely use the resin for it all.
Honestly curious why it’s a Kickstarter project when it’s clearly already finished. If it’ll be delivered in “July 2021” then why not just sell the STL files?
My guess would be that a kick-starter is a great way for small companies/individuals to cut on costs that otherwise would eat into your profit. Doing a kick-starter gives you more exposure than just selling in myminifactory or any e-store. You can also get a feel on the demand for your product, what your customers will like to see or what they already like. These are all saved costs on research, consumer habits, marketing and audience engagement. What you learn from a successful/failed kick-starter helps tremendously towards your next projects. I'm sure after the kick-starter they may have late pledges or dump the STLs into an e-store anyway but the data collected from doing one seems to me like a very valuable investment.
The original pieces drop first. The ruins and stretch goals drop later. It's not all releasing July 2021.
I remember when he said these would be free.
Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Im glad they're not free. A lot of work went into these.
@@EthanfromEngland- I think he should be paid for the work. But still, a lot of the initial hype was because they were amazing and generously going to be free. I would have been compelled to at least put one file out for free as a make good on my own words.
I’d have less STDs and Alimony if I’d have nerded out earlier.
First i think
you beat me...
I really wish I had a 3d printer
I had been obsessing over them for well over a year and my wife finally convinced me to spend the money on myself and just take the plunge. No regrets. It is a really satisfying companion hobby to D&D and miniature collecting/painting.
your local library might have one that you can use.
i saved all episodes of Tested at Weta, but the episodes with johnny were my favorite
Hello, I recently ordered an Ender 3 V3 SE and I cannot wait to print the hagglethorn Hollow Buildings. I think I gonna print them at 100 percent or slightly smaller so they fit my Tabletop World buildings sizewise. Could you please give me a tip which filament (what type) I should use to print these out in the best possible way with my Ender3? Would be great! Greetings, Oliver
With no ekshtra supports?! incredible
👋👏👏👏👌
So cool
I remember a fee years ago when I saw this first I was amazed by the paintjob. Now, after I spend my time exclusively printing and painting obsessively, that paintjob does not impress me anymore at all lol.
OMG i hope i get to us a 3D printer before I die.
Dean you can do it they are suprisingly affordable
Norm, great video and nice to see Lychee Slicer and Atlas mentioned in a Tested 3d printing video! Particularly with all the chitubox controversy recently, but regardless of that they're two companies really pushing the tech and its accessibility forward :)
Keep those coming. We like 3D printing stuff. Your picky attitude towards quality makes your 3D printing reviews very informative.
Got an AnyCubic Mono SE based on your review of the Mono X and am in love with it, been using FDM printers for years and the quality difference between the two is baffling, the biggest thing to get used to was the fact that on the resin printer, it takes the same amount of time to print 1 model on the build plate as it does it you have the build plate full. That said though, I do see that both types FDM and SLA have their strong points and week points, and will continue to use the FDM for anything larger, ie storage box, or if I need to print a lot and detail isn't an issue because the filament is a lot cheaper then the resin.
Good to hear back from this project. The printed buildings look great!
Nice printer! How about printing me some Jarts fins? 3 blue and 3 red please😜
