You’ve made great progress , I remember watching your videos years ago when I started again , unfortunately I practiced for months and left it again ( a 30 year pattern ) , so here I am again looking for inspiration. You’ve really been consistent and it absolutely shows , you’re playing with musicality and sensitivity. Don’t take this the wrong way but you really look like you don’t enjoy it sometimes though , it’s like you desperately wanna get it right , I think you need to have more fun and maybe recommend you try and write some songs or compose some short pieces of your own too. Anyway , you’ve come along massively and I wish I’d have been as consistent as you have .
Ha, thanks! In a way, you are right. I don't enjoy recording the pieces for UA-cam. But these videos are a record of my progress so I don't want to include mistakes And I am super picky about it. This recording nearly wasn't good enough because there were two hesitations that annoy me (which others may not even notice). When I play under other circumstances I care much less about that sort of thing. But also, I think my resting face just looks like I'm in a mood. Over the past year, I've actually been pretty slack with practice, hence the lack of new recordings. There have been several pieces that I've just not finished because with the lack of practice they have taken too long to learn and I've become totally fed up with them. But I've maintained my piano lessons, and even if I've not done anything from one lesson to the next they do keep me showing up. That's the main thing. Music composition is something I've dabbled with and something I am working towards. I've realised that it is the direction I want to take. Playing other people music will never totally satisfy me. But having a base level of skill is important and not just that but a wider musical vocabulary. Of the stuff that I've done so far it's pretty uninteresting. To that end, I've recently followed a recommendation and have started transcribing beginner piano pieces. I'm finding this is giving me a much better understanding of pieces than just playing them. Maybe composition is where this channel will ultimately head.
@@DanielLearnsPiano I really appreciate this frank reply. I don't have one performance as long and complex as this after seven years. On the other hand I've never dipped below 40 minutes of practice in a day, seven days a week. I had a teacher for four years, but he coached me in skills, not pieces. Now that I'm learning pieces and improvising on lead sheets I really value recordings for feedback. But because I use Pianoteq with my Kawai VPC 1, everything I play is saved as a midi file. No camera. So, when I think I've just played through without hesitations, I've always got it in the bag. Your description of the way the mind catches on a mistake and blows up, causing more mistakes is so true. Often if I've had a perfect run I get a bit excited and crash at the very end. So frustrating.
You’ve made some impressive progress, I was wondering what happened to you! Your approach to the piano is much more natural and you are able to communicate this piece from your soul. I’m looking forward to more videos from you. Keep practicing, it’s definitely paying off in the long run. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎹
@hippophile Of course. I’ve no intention of stopping. But the longer I play the lower my expectations become. I feel like learning the piano is one of those horror movie camera effects where the further you walk down a corridor the longer it becomes.
@@DanielLearnsPiano what have your expectations been? Playing in a certain way (for example getting pieces easier recorded) or do/did you have playing more advanced pieces in mind? Or both? Anyway, yes, the more you know the more you know what you don't know!
Thanks. Piano has take a back seat this year as I've been really busy with other life stuff. However, I'm still taking my lessons so even if that's all I've done all week (and that has been the case more than a few times) it's still something. This has been an enjoyable piece though so it kept me coming back.
Glad to see you’re still going 😊
Wow, awesome! Absolutely loved watching this piece and so glad it popped up on my feed today :)
Glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you. That’s very kind. The long run. That couldn’t be more true. The more I play the piano the further away the goal appears to get.
@@DanielLearnsPiano that’s par for the course and means you are always challenging yourself🎹
@@DanielLearnsPiano If it was easy everyone would be doing it! You are making some good noises, keep it up!!
