@Adaven Nice! I’m halfway through the third area right now, but I’m taking my time. I like to complete each exploring zone before advancing the story. It’s also hard deciding on what Miis to chose for the roles. It’s been harder to choose without the search function and I really have to dig through the cringe in order to find a fun mii in the ‘Popular’ section. Sure, there’s presets, but I like having the craziness that comes with assigning characters to NPC roles, you know? Oh! What class do you prefer the most? I like the Cat one! It might be because it was the one I beat the 3DS version with, but I think it’s cute!
Really hope they add creator credit in the full version as well as a way to search and sort your miis, it can be hard to find certain ones in a batch of 500...
I've been making all my OCs. Some of them are kinda hard, though, because there's no hair quite like what they're supposed to have or maybe they're a furry and IDK a way to do ears, tails, wings, etc. For the ears and tails, maybe I can make them cat job when the full game comes out and I unlock it so they get it that way.
For wings, you can try to position something curved low down the miis face and make them large. It doesn't look like perfect wings but I think it turned out pretty good with my mii
For wings you can make them a certain class much later in the game(last area) however you are limited to bat wings. For furries, I guess just make them a horse
I saw someone do ears by using two masks and then shading them with other masks. Looked really good, you just have to tone the faded choices into a color that matches the ear color. Not like a perfect solution or anything but it looked pretty decent.
Ears are pretty simple to make, you just need to use a lot of shapes in the mask section.I’ve heard of ways to get wings but tails you just can’t do without the cat or imp job for an animal/devil type tail
I'm glad I'm not the only one that puts other's Miis I've downloaded to secret. Yes, would be cool if they spread, but I'm not that talented so I don't want folks thinking I made those. yeah I was actually talking to my sister about the lack of author credit in miitopia. like in pokemon no matter how many times a pokemon is traded it will still carry the original trainers name with it. seems like NBD to most people but from an artists view it is really upsetting.
Wow, i saw what people were doing with this thing and i’m still surprised by just how deep the makeup maker goes. The guide is very much appreciated Ross!
One tip id say, is if you have a character that doesnt have a regular mouth and you want to hide it, you can make an area with the skin color [id recommend using the skin grey ish "bandaid" color as a base and squint / blur your eyes until its really similar] and then cover the mouth and like an open mouth using stickers. Works well with eyes too, but the only problem is that the character will have this weird skin tone part all the time because of the small outline on it, and that if your mii were to open its mouth / eyes it would be set to being happy / sad / whateve emotion it is. 👍
If you want your custom eyes to actually look left and right, don't use the dot eyes on your base Mii, as they cannot do so. The blush/cheek layer stays with the Mii's head if the Mii's face is stolen, allowing you to hide a funny face or easter egg under the Sticker layer that only appears if the Mii loses its face. Glasses seem to be the only makeup option that is visible when the Mii is facing away from you. You don't need the mouth, eyes, eyebrows etc, to be anywhere close to the actual location of the original part, allowing you to hide them somewhere with the Mask layer and add a new custom mouth or eye underneath the makeup part, for a simple custom animation. You can even use the original part to shift the pivot point of the eye/eyebrow makeup part when the Mii is sad or angry, and even have a system that swaps the expression to yet another one, granted you hide all the extra ones under a mask layer.
Thank you for this video, it actually really helps ^^ So amazing how the extensiveness of this mii maker makes it almost like its own art program but for character creation.
Alright, this might be a bit of work but I think you can fix your Rubberross hero Step one: get on Giwi's account and have her download any miis you want to save Step two: go into your switch storage and just delete your Miitopia save Step 3: New Ross! Step 4: download the miis you had giwi save from her profile
Here's two more things that I found out you can do, the first is that is you can make one alternate custom expression. This I find is useful when i'm making things like Pokémon or creatures that aren't very humanoid in the face and typically don't have a valid way of having a movable mouth look right. What you do first is you make the second expression first in the sticker layer, and then when you're finished with that, you cover it up and draw over it with the primary expression in the mouth layer, but most importantly, make sure that the mouth isn't actually where the mouth makeup is, you wanna actually hide the mouth. This is because when a character's mouth moves, if they have mouth makeup, it hides the mouth makeup temporarily to show the expression of the mii mouth, but if there's no mii mouth in sight, then it just disappears. This gives the illusion of the mouth changing into a different expression because the sticker layer is one of the lowest in terms of priority. It isn't always perfect, because now instead of having a number of ranges with expression in the mouth, they will only have two states, not to mention if there's no other makeup surrounding both the sticker and the mouth, then it can look very segmented, even if you try to match it with the colors of the foundation (which it will never fully match). It often looks like they're wearing flesh colored lipstick. Still, this is a method that I found very useful for certain miis, and while there are definitely people who found this out before me, I managed to figure this out all by myself. One more thing that I've found out that's not really explained here is how to outline certain features. Instead of doing it manually, which is a bad idea because of the limited amount of parts you can use, and oftentimes it looks like the outline is definitely segmented and doesn't look proper, I often duplicate the item itself take the one that's lower, make it a little bigger, and make it the color of the outline so that it's consistent all across the shape. This isn't perfect either, because if it's a dynamic shape, then it can be quite difficult to get the outline to look perfectly correct, though usually it will always look better than manually outlining it yourself, but more importantly, this can a lot of times be very expensive when it comes to parts you can use since you're limited to only one hundred.
I played Miitopia for more than 100 hours on my 3ds and was so sad that almost nobody knew about this game. So this makes me so so happy!! Let's hope we'll get a Tomodachi life for switch!! (I got 1000 hours on that game bwhahsjw)
Saaame oml this game was SLEPT on after release, like during release it got coverage but right after everyone just stopped playing it and I was so sad. Sunk so much time into my OG 3ds copy, and now I'm doing the same thing with the switch port lmao

a cool tip that i learned from the original miitopia was that, using the glasses, you can create a sort of snout by moving the glasses down as low as possible to make different animals, I personally used it to make fnaf characters, and they look pretty good
There was a game for the Wii called create, the main game itself was a platformer game going through a jungle, but you get to draw your character and there's different boxes for different body parts. I remember this because my dad at the time was a fan of The Misadventures of Flapjack on Cartoon Network, and so for his platformer character he drew Kapp'n Knuckles, and he drew him really well tbh. The way you talk about how of you want your eyes to work as eyes you gotta make them in the eye category.. this reminded of that Wii game and how sensitive the different function boxes were.
I know I'm late but this is really bringing me back to the amazing creations from ModNationRacers back on PS3. A kid's racing game yet there was almost boundless opportunities to make whatever character designs you could imagine. This is the closest I've seen that resembles that since.
It's really a pity that it doesn't say who the original artist for each mii is, it really should credit them, but I'm glad that people usually don't make them secret, because it's way easier to find the really cool ones that way! Anyway, looking forward to more Miitopia on this channel, can't wait to see Ross playing it!
I can't say for sure, but I do know it was over a year ago, definitely before Super Ross World began development, because I remember finding his VRchat stuff before that
When making my Miis animate properly there is one thing I couldn't get correctly for my Miis, making them look to the right or left with their pupils when in level 2 of Miis' friendships or the princes' argument cutscene. This was a big problem for me because I thought Nintendo would have made the eye make-up animate properly but until I found some secrets that Nintendo hid from us, my brain expanded 20 cells that exact day. So if you want your Mii to look sideways with their pupils here are some tips: Tip 1. Don't make the eyes in the eyes menu. The eyes menu has only pupil options so if you make the white areas in the eyes menu, they will animate like pupils which do mess up the Mii when they look sideways. Tip 2. Make the WHITE AREA of the eyes in the eyeshadow menu, the layering tools allow the symmetry in the eyeshadow menu to go over the Mii's main eyes and under the Mii's make-up/pupils for the eyes. This means that the white area of the eyes will move like normal Mii eyes will allowing your Mii creation to look sideways with their pupils. Tip 3. Only use the eyes menu for the pupils. Since the eye menu only has options for the pupils, it will be better to only have the pupils animate in the eyes menu as it was what it looks like intends it to be for. And that is how you make the Mii's eyes look sideways instead of destroying the make-up. I hope this comment really helps you with making your Miis animate their faces properly cause it did help me. Bye-bye!
i loved the ds miitopia and i was surpriseed by how addicted i got to the mii maker in this demo! i wish the wigs were a little better though, they're a little too specific/limited
I mean, stickers and masks can be used for symmetry. The BIG difference is that blush sticks to the face, giving it less range, the lowest layer, and, again, sticks it directly to the face (So it won't float off the sides of the face if it's on there.) I used blush for my Chadder mii even though his cheese pattern is asymmetrical because it contorts to the face, and used stickers to cover it up. It looks a bit awkward, but far from terrible, and I like the way the bottom cheek contorts to the face; Though, typing it out loud, I guess the other ones could've been stickers. I might fix that up using the stickers I used to cover up the other patterns? Anyway, yeah, symmetry isn't their main divide, really.

Now I'm paying for all of that in grinding though.
Luckily I've got the secret snurp farm so it's not too bad of a grind tbh (dance chaining rare/v.rare snurps to death is broken as hell) but still sprinkles do a lot in the final fight and not having them is a big pain in my ass lmao...
Also big tip that will save you lots of time if you are using sprinkles: If a cautious person is in the stretching animation (even if they just initiated it), use your hyper sprinkles on them before they take their turn and their damage will quadruple. In 3DS version I could use it to get to max damage on my cautious tank pretty easily.
"Getting this wrong will cause the face to collapse in on itself" Oh so no pressure then
Wait a minute. Both RubberRoss and Failboat uploaded a Miitopia video at the same time. Coincidence?
I THINK NOT!
The coincidence is that they both decided to publish their videos the day before the game comes out
I was just about to say the same thing

These are Miis now. Remember where we were when they were introduced? This creator engine is worth the higher price alone. Holy crap.
damn that mii in the thumbnail
its crazy how good the mii maker is

Yes SO Excited for this GAME!!!!
It's like he took the final exam and then he started studying.
@@1unartic Yeah that's true, curly bangs might be doable in makeup?? Try some stickers or masks with different hairstyles and it might work then.
Wish there was a way for better credit, alas.
Great tip on the glasses!! I didn't know that, so that will really help me with more designs.
Oh man, I hope Ross uploads all his Miitopia streams to UA-cam! His original play through of Miitopia on the GameGrumps channel was one of my favorite things to watch back in the day. So sad that it was never completed but maybe this time it’ll be seen all the way through!!!
We'll be playing it very soon! We plan to cut together everything!

Definitely gonna mess with this whenever I get the chance, the only thing I have left to figure out is the difference between "mask" and "sticker".
Mask can cover the eyes and mouth, stickers can't.
^^^ yep, masks go above eyes and mouth and stickers don't. the only thing that can go above the nose is glasses/anything on the glasses layer
@@clawcakes Lmao they are wearing masks wrong
This gives me hope for Tomodachi Life
yeah I was actually talking to my sister about the lack of author credit in miitopia. like in pokemon no matter how many times a pokemon is traded it will still carry the original trainers name with it. seems like NBD to most people but from an artists view it is really upsetting.
Wow, i saw what people were doing with this thing and i’m still surprised by just how deep the makeup maker goes. The guide is very much appreciated Ross!
That was very informative! Thank you for the explanation ross!
OMG thanks for giving your access key! I LOVE the Danny and Arin,im gonna use them
One tip id say, is if you have a character that doesnt have a regular mouth and you want to hide it, you can make an area with the skin color [id recommend using the skin grey ish "bandaid" color as a base and squint / blur your eyes until its really similar] and then cover the mouth and like an open mouth using stickers. Works well with eyes too, but the only problem is that the character will have this weird skin tone part all the time because of the small outline on it, and that if your mii were to open its mouth / eyes it would be set to being happy / sad / whateve emotion it is. 👍
I hope to see Ross play this again. I still remember Princess Hank hill
“B w a H”
1 year later the access code no longer works
I spent an hour just trying to make the perfect wig, I can't imagine how long making a whole mii would be
If you want your custom eyes to actually look left and right, don't use the dot eyes on your base Mii, as they cannot do so.
Thanks Ross this was really helpful and easy to understand!
Yoooo you guys did such a great job on Hacker's model!! Heckin cute as a bunger
I’m convinced no one has actually played the game, just the character creation.
These are all great tips, and I'm happy to know them going in! That character adjustment looks amazing!
Matt and Ryan from SuperMega?
I actually learned something today, thanks Ross! 😃
The biggest thing I learned from this is that you can copy things with X
Thanks for the tip mate :)
Same🧎♀️the amount of time I could’ve saved with that tip
Thank you for this video, it actually really helps ^^
So amazing how the extensiveness of this mii maker makes it almost like its own art program but for character creation.
Alright, this might be a bit of work but I think you can fix your Rubberross hero
Step one: get on Giwi's account and have her download any miis you want to save
Step two: go into your switch storage and just delete your Miitopia save
Step 3: New Ross!

I really want this game now, the character customization looks amazing.
Go for it it’s so much fun
Am I the only one who paused to see all of Ross’ Mii’s?
I appreciate creators who make miis look like they intended both with or without makeup. Not easy to do for most cases but I think it's worth the effort.
I played Miitopia long ago... And I need MORE.
Now i need to retry my Helltaker Beelzebub to try to do the horns properly...
My code is 3K0NK64. I have made:
Not Shane from The Town with No Name, Peppino & Noise from Pizza Tower, Chris from The Adventures of Chris, Gary the Gadget Guy from Club Penguin, The Judge from OFF, Leafos from Viva Piñata, Xoda Rap from Niotu Love 2: De-evolution, Tilith from Brave Frontier, Mayapple from Nefarious, Alan Probe & Ophelia Payne from Amateur Surgeon, Soviet Womble, and Main Characters from SMG4, Meta Runner, and Sunset Paradise.
a cool tip that i learned from the original miitopia was that, using the glasses, you can create a sort of snout by moving the glasses down as low as possible to make different animals, I personally used it to make fnaf characters, and they look pretty good
The only thing thats even making me consider buying this game was the Mii creator. I hope this makes Nintendo do the same with Tomodachi Life
Very helpful. Thanks, Ross!
Now I wish these features were part of regular Miis
omg i know that this has probably been around for awhile but i absoloutely love the vtuber model it looks so clean

Good to see you wanting to make videos again!
How am I just now finding out about the OTHER and COPY buttons? I'm as blind as a streamer.
4:33 Whoa, is that Matt Watson from SuperMega!?
I know I'm late but this is really bringing me back to the amazing creations from ModNationRacers back on PS3. A kid's racing game yet there was almost boundless opportunities to make whatever character designs you could imagine. This is the closest I've seen that resembles that since.
I really wish we could do this in Smash.
The fact that Miitopia has one of the most complex character builders of any game I know of makes me really happy for some reason lol
I know someone who made a freaking art book. No, not an art book about his creations, no, it's a Mii that is an art book.
they need to add curly hair options in the wig menu ;_; my starfire mii needs it
This! We need more curly hair options
There's not enough hair texture only straight, wavy or messy
So awesome!! Almost as advanced as FO4s character customization
I was going to play this, but not being able to change body skin colors was a deal breaker. That would bother me to no end.
Brapwatson and Ryan Seacrest, from Superman?
The Access code dont work
Wow this was so helpful! I didn’t realise character creation in miitopia could get to such levels! :o
So... new viewer. (I know him from grumps) When did Ross become Hellbent from Planet Dolan
I'm wondering the same
I can't say for sure, but I do know it was over a year ago, definitely before Super Ross World began development, because I remember finding his VRchat stuff before that
When making my Miis animate properly there is one thing I couldn't get correctly for my Miis, making them look to the right or left with their pupils when in level 2 of Miis' friendships or the princes' argument cutscene. This was a big problem for me because I thought Nintendo would have made the eye make-up animate properly but until I found some secrets that Nintendo hid from us, my brain expanded 20 cells that exact day. So if you want your Mii to look sideways with their pupils here are some tips:
Tip 1.
Bye-bye!
Ross, thank you for the tutorial. You are amazingly!
i loved the ds miitopia and i was surpriseed by how addicted i got to the mii maker in this demo! i wish the wigs were a little better though, they're a little too specific/limited
I noticed the credit issue which is ridiculous. Maybe they didn't realise it would be that big. I hope they update it with credits...

I wasn't expecting to actually like this video.
10/10 subverted my expectations
why does nintendo not use the touchscreen in its games anymore
how are you gonna use touchscreen in docked mode?
Once i get miitopia, all of those 500 hours thats on my profile for it, is probably going to be because of me making the characters.
I wish I owned a switch so badly
Access code no longer works:(
