I got an idea. How about putting a hole in the top, place a funnel through it sitting down to a sponge to add water to increase humidity as desired. Just creative thinking! good video, thanks
I've tried this same set up. I even used a dimmer switch on the bulb but the temperature is very difficult to keep correct. If your room temperature falls or rises for instance over night then so does the temperature inside the incubator. Trust me it does. You really do need a thermostat fitted to the bulb. It will then go from the electricity supply onto the thermostat and to the bulb or lamp. The cheapest thermostat is one like I used from a cheap fish tank heater. Take it apart and pull the element off and connect the bulb /Lamp to it. It's got a temperature adjustable control on it. Or you can adjust the temperature also by trying different wattage bulbs. And by trying the bulb closer or not so close to the thermostat.
@lalsawar thnx brother ... yeh i had put a steel plate in the right corner next to the bulb n had put soaked tissues init ... when they dry out u can just add warm water in the plate the tissues would absorb it again .... add more water to increase the humidity ..
@usamasaifullah15 sorry it wasnt shown clearly ... that tape thing on the right is pc fan , laptop fan ,, which i hang a cell outwards n it just keeps running ,,, this way the warm air inside the incubator hits the eggs from all sides .. its best ...
@MrShanzoo brother u can use whatever u want ,, the main thing is uve got the required temperiture ryte along with the humidity thats all ,,, doesnt matter what u use as a supply ...
@dagrote battery was a one cell of AA thats all .. i had the wires of the fan coming out from a whole made in the incubator an all i done was taped them with the battery thats all ... one one battery finished the other charged one was ready to go lol ....
Hi. I've made one like this and it was OK. Some eggs hatched but not many because it's difficult to keep the temperature correct. I did fit a dimmer switch to the bulb but to be honest you really need a thermostat inside to control the temperature. You can buy one that plugs into your electricity and then fit it in to your incubator and then plug your lamp/ bulb into that. And it will switch on and off to the temperature that you set it to. You should also fit a second bulb inside your incubator one that brings the temperature to about 34%c. Then the other bulb that is plugged into your thermostat will do the rest and bring it up to the correct temperature. The reason for this is so if one of the bulbs breaks / blows then the other one will keep the eggs alive for longer. And they won't go cold.
ray760581 yeah I did too. But thank you for sharing your video because you have to start somewhere. And it is a challenge and fun to make your own home made incubator. 👍
I'd been looking for a good DIY video for an incubator, and yours is the far and away the best. I think I can do this now. I have just one question. How did you hook the battery up to the CPU fan, and what size battery did you use? Thanks again. This was a very good video. Very clear.
You can also get the styrofoam boxes at pet stores ( the fish come in these) and I've been told at some meat stores like Omaha meats they have them available for people to take home frozen meat.
Thanks Mr.Ray. You have made a great tutorial. Very informative and innovative too. Just tell me where do you place the soaked tissue paper ? Keep sharing your knowledge. Good Luck.
you can buy a small one on eBay for $31 more so they hatch 7 eggs I got one and it does fine does the temperature for you doesn't need a thermostat you just got to put water in the little Reservoir every other day works great
salam brother, i agree with all the comments on here, this is a very simple and easy design and I'm going to try it, i have a few questions though if you don't mind, first, what temperature should it be at? and what humidity %? second, is it ok to leave that bulb running for 3 weeks? and third, how successful was it for you? how many eggs did you put in and how many chicks did you get out??
Wow its a very good tutorial .......my question is this can i use a gas instead of Electricity because there is a frequent electricity failure in my country Pakistan. And second thing is how many eggs can be hatch from this type of incubator ....?
i made one, and cant seem to get my humidity up to the right level. i have water below the eggs as well as a soaked sponge and its still not working. any suggestions? also, where can i find a pc fan? i have a little fan outside the incubator blowing air in through a hole but i think thats my issue. any ideas? and where can i find a PC fan?
nikole snow also, I didn't have a fan to put inside so I bought a super small desk fan and put it up against a hole in the side of the incubator to circulate airflow, but I think that's what was causing my humidity to go down. Any tips with that?
Nikole Snow Not really sure on that one , may be it's blowing the air abit too hard .. That could be the reason .. a slight circulation of air is just so that hot air could hit on eggs from all sides possible..
@QAStheMASTER sorry brother for late reply , i had replyed it a couple of times over the iphone n looked now u havnt got anything .. hmm , temperature must be above 98 f its best if u keep it close to 100 or exact. but last 4 days try to raise it to 102 .. n as far as the humidity it must be about 55 to 65 the first 16 days n after that the last four days it has to be raised to 75 % n for the result please go through my videos n have a look at cheenis batch hatching.it would answer the question
Abdullah Adams when the energy bulb is kept on for long and its not turned off it does produce enough heat , the old type of 100watt or 80 watt i even tried 40watt they produce too much heat and its hard to control the temperature than .. They can be used if the box of incubator is very big or large ...
I got an idea. How about putting a hole in the top, place a funnel through it sitting down to a sponge to add water to increase humidity as desired. Just creative thinking! good video, thanks

Really helpful, thank you :-)
@kj6602 Yes it can , anything that keeps the heat in can work
@MrShanzoo brother u can use whatever u want ,, the main thing is uve got the required temperiture ryte along with the humidity thats all ,,, doesnt matter what u use as a supply ...
@dagrote battery was a one cell of AA thats all .. i had the wires of the fan coming out from a whole made in the incubator an all i done was taped them with the battery thats all ... one one battery finished the other charged one was ready to go lol ....

dave Scopes yes ur right , this was my first experiment, the one made after this i had a thermostat attached to it , it made things alot easier then .
ray760581 yeah I did too. But thank you for sharing your video because you have to start somewhere. And it is a challenge and fun to make your own home made incubator. 👍

nikole snow
Try keeping a metal plate for water and use tissue instead of a sponge .. water will evaporate quickly and humidity can be raised ..

Purpose of the fan is to hit heat to all angles of the egg .. It circulates the heat in an incubator .
where r u from jhelum?i
does the energy bulb produce enough heat? most others I see recommend the old type of light bulb
Abdullah Adams when the energy bulb is kept on for long and its not turned off it does produce enough heat , the old type of 100watt or 80 watt i even tried 40watt they produce too much heat and its hard to control the temperature than ..
They can be used if the box of incubator is very big or large ...
Abdullah Adams
For this size box this enrgy saver showed best result
Oh ok cool thanks. Will check which works better in my box
ray760581 the fan which fixed throw the inside air out.or outside air in
