Bro the ouma and gonta interactions are so pure. They’re such good friends what with how gonta’s kind nature allows him to see the simple truth in ouma’s complex demeanor and how ouma acknowledges gonta’s innocence as genuine (to a fault, which is worrying); he’s so honest that ouma doesnt even have to be all paranoid around him. They really would be just pals if it weren’t for the killing game.
Ouma's only true friend is Gonta, notice how toned down his teasing and pranking is with him. Plus, we get to see Ouma use his 'true' or 'serious' sprites with Gonta, something no one else sees
The way that Kokichi keeps changing his backstory reminds me of the Joker in the Dark Knight always changing his story about how he got his scars. The whole thing has, "If I’m going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!" energy like in the Killing Joke. It is interesting to note that nearly every backstory he's made up for himself has ended up with some element of either him killing his parents or them otherwise being dead, or him not having any. Since lies tend to have shreds of the truth in them it sounds like he has some sort of parent issues. Either them not being there like perhaps an orphan, or him not seeing them as his parents. This is all just speculation of course.
I do think it’s very likely that Kokichi is currently an orphan, since it has been hinted in V3, especially in his motive video but at the same time I do think it’s likely he had parents since he mentioned a hometown once, and I don’t think he was lying that time since after saying that he went silent for a second, then proceeded to get upset and claim it was a lie which to me seems that when Kokichi bought up his hometown he got reminded of bad memories and proceeded to repress it by covering it up as a lie, and those “bad memories” could easily explain his behaviour and why he became an orphan

One thing I find interesting is that Kokichi’s behaviour in all of this is very similar to how he acted in the prologue and chapter 1 of V3 which shows how much the killing game impacted him, turning him from an annoying little brat who lies a lot to an actual threat who you should stay as far away as possible from Edit: oh yeah and especially that Kokichi’s more demonic sprites are not present here too, and those sprites became a lot more prominent in the later chapters of V3 Edit 2: I just found out that Kokichi said in the my future event that he wanted to be the antagonist but Monokuma came in and Kokichi couldn’t do it because it’d feel like a repeat, so this is basically saying that Kokichi’s extreme villain persona isn’t exclusive to the killing came and if Monokuma never came along he would’ve made himself the antagonist
i mean he's had a villain persona from the start considering he calls himself the supreme leader of an evil secret organisation, the question is more in how far he's pushing how evil he is

If Kokichi, Gonta, and Miu become Ultimate Despairs, they'll be a huge threat. With Kokichi having both technology and strength on his side, and utilizing his intellect, he could deal more damage than Kazuichi. The same thing happened in V3, where those 3 are the only ones who uncovered the mystery behind the security cameras, the Nanokumas.

Kokichi and Monica’s interactions were honestly interesting, mainly for how similar they both are, since they both like to wear a childish mask in order to hide their true intelligence, and they both recognize how dangerous the other is.
i feel like people are missing some key things i noticed about kokichi just watching the first few events. how he handles monaca, his provoking of genoside jack, his interrogating monokuma... those seem funny on the surface, but it also seems like he's keeping every possible danger in check. his constant reminding of everyone to act their age while they're still young, too. and he mentions "everyone" quite a few times while he's doing things as well. i felt like people missed a lot of his actions in v3 too, like his mentorship of kaede or him acting out when people give up on finding the mastermind and need a new focus. to me, he feels like one of those behind the scenes leaders, subtly doing things in the background to benefit the group even if they don't realise it.
I really like this interpretation! I’ve always believed that Kokichi has a very roundabout way of showing his good intentions. Sure, he acts like a jerk, but at the end of the day, it seems like he really does care about people and observes them closely, learning their behaviors and figuring out the best way (or at least what he believes is the best way) to deal with or help them. Also, what you said about him subtly leading behind the scenes makes sense since his title is Ultimate Supreme Leader, as being a leader can have different meanings. I hope I explained that well. I’m not too good at being specific in my opinions sometimes lol.

Yes! It really shows what a nice friendship they could have had if the killing game hadn't interfered. It feels like Gonta's the only one who fully wants to believe in Kokichi, and Kokichi finds him not boring which is saying a lot when that seems to be one of the biggest compliments Kokichi will give someone.

It's easy to be a good friend when everything is okay, but when something bad happens - this is the time when you show what friend you truly are. If you're willing to kill your friend so easily for some of your plans or the first moment you feel some danger - how can you call yourself a good friend? I DO like Kokichi and Gonta's interactions, they're really nice, and i DO like Kokichi, but saying that it's the game's fault that Kokichi did to Gonta such awful thing as manipulating him into becoming a murderer, leading to him being executed... he may be a good friend for Gonta in a peaceful setting, but any not peaceful setting is a test for your friendship - a test that Kokichi failed in the worst way.
Oh boy another analysis. What Kokichi said at 34:56 was really interesting to me and I didn’t even notice it until now. Kokichi straight up said that if Monokuma didn’t interfere he would’ve made himself the antagonist, but didn’t because it would feel like a repeat of Monokuma’s interference. This sticks out to me a lot since I thought that Kokichi only does the whole thing where he says he’s evil and does bad things to get everyone to unite against a common enemy in the killing game, because that makes sense but what he’s saying here is that he was originally going to the same thing, and in a completely normal environment? Like it’s pretty clear that Kokichi always antagonises himself and stuff and in v3 he took that to the next level but for it to be said that he actually does that even in non threatening situations is really interesting, and makes me wonder why he even does that.
I was hoping for more interaction between Shuichi and Kokichi cause I wanted to see their relationship expand (I like their dynamic jfjdjsjs)! ☹️ But it seems like Kokichi and Gonta have a great relationship too (best friends! :)) ; Here it shows Kokichi can really make friends and trust people more easily compared to in V3 :D
Kokichi in the main game made me want to tear his whole living body apart, but if he didn't do the shit he did in (spoiler warning) chapter 4 and the constant lying and fucking up the trials I would've absolutely loved him. His so fucking funny and his roasts are absolutely it.

(Spoiler warning) In chapter 4 what Kokichi did was understandable but pretending not to care about gonta's death just makes me kinda mad at him He KNEW Miu was going to kill him (because He detected her lie) and Gonta was easy to manipulate so he took the chance. In a killing game, of course you don't want to die.
Also all the things he did..good and bad ones.. Are what caused the game to end and triggered the masterminds demise. Without those actions... We'd have Danganronoa 54. He sacrificed a lot from the start of the game, turning himself into a scapegoat since chapter 1 and pretty much looked after everyone..however...his mental health went south and he ended doing the things he did. All those things are why he's such a memorable, tragic and beautiful character for me. In the JP version, its much more specified he planned to be executed in chapter 4, but Monokuma trolled him halfway through, and only executed Gonta. I understand exactly how he felt in every moment and why he did every thing he did. Our leader..💜

He always lies intentionally, there's always a purpose behind his words, especially in the KG when he tried to be as antagonizing as possible (again, for a bigger goal). He kind of protects himself with his lies and is perfectly capable of being honest, like he does actually pretty often. When you play his route and get to read his thoughts during the Salmon Team, you can see that he actually considers to stop lying entirely just to be closer with Shuichi. This is just... really not how compulsive lying works. Ofc I always could be wrong, I just really don't see those "pathological/compulsive liar" part which is really popular in the fandom. I replayed the game several times, but I can't get the idea. :(

i feel like people are missing some key things i noticed about kokichi just watching the first few events. how he handles monaca, his provoking of genoside jack, his interrogating monokuma... those seem funny on the surface, but it also seems like he's keeping every possible danger in check. his constant reminding of everyone to act their age while they're still young, too. and he mentions "everyone" quite a few times while he's doing things as well. i felt like people missed a lot of his actions in v3 too, like his mentorship of kaede or him acting out when people give up on finding the mastermind and need a new focus. to me, he feels like one of those behind the scenes leaders, subtly doing things in the background to benefit the group even if they don't realise it.
I really like this interpretation! I’ve always believed that Kokichi has a very roundabout way of showing his good intentions. Sure, he acts like a jerk, but at the end of the day, it seems like he really does care about people and observes them closely, learning their behaviors and figuring out the best way (or at least what he believes is the best way) to deal with or help them. Also, what you said about him subtly leading behind the scenes makes sense since his title is Ultimate Supreme Leader, as being a leader can have different meanings.

@@kandymae yeah I agree too, also your point with the ultimate supreme leader possibly meaning something different makes even more sense if you take into account how the original name is "high school level supreme leader" which is not as powerful seeming as ultimate would imply. so he's just the best possible teenage leader. it's just that because of mostly everyone not actually taking the time to listen to what he says or understand it(which I don't blame them for of course)that they wouldn't even think of kokichi being the leader. yet he technically has always taken that role. also, I think whenever he's talking about his "over 10,000 members" he's talking about the students of hope's peak. Yes! It really shows what a nice friendship they could have had if the killing game hadn't interfered. It's easy to be a good friend when everything is okay, but when something bad happens - this is the time when you show what friend you truly are. I DO like Kokichi and Gonta's interactions, they're really nice, and i DO like Kokichi, but saying that it's the game's fault that Kokichi did to Gonta such awful thing as manipulating him into becoming a murderer, leading to him being executed... he may be a good friend for Gonta in a peaceful setting, but any not peaceful setting is a test for your friendship - a test that Kokichi failed in the worst way.

What Kokichi said at 34:56 was really interesting to me and I didn’t even notice it until now. Kokichi straight up said that if Monokuma didn’t interfere he would’ve made himself the antagonist, but didn’t because it would feel like a repeat of Monokuma’s interference. This sticks out to me a lot since I thought that Kokichi only does the whole thing where he says he’s evil and does bad things to get everyone to unite against a common enemy in the killing game, because that makes sense but what he’s saying here is that he was originally going to the same thing, and in a completely normal environment? Like it’s pretty clear that Kokichi always antagonises himself and stuff and in v3 he took that to the next level but for it to be said that he actually does that even in non threatening situations is really interesting, and makes me wonder why he even does that.
I know right too bad they never explain why or he never has any clear reason or hints of why he does this

Kokichi in the main game made me want to tear his whole living body apart, but if he didn't do the shit he did in (spoiler warning) chapter 4 and the constant lying and fucking up the trials I would've absolutely loved him. His so fucking funny and his roasts are absolutely it.

In chapter 4 what Kokichi did was understandable but pretending not to care about gonta's death just makes me kinda mad at him
He KNEW Miu was going to kill him (because He detected her lie) and Gonta was easy to manipulate so he took the chance. In a killing game, of course you don't want to die.
Also all the things he did..good and bad ones.. Are what caused the game to end and triggered the masterminds demise. Without those actions... We'd have Danganronoa 54. He sacrificed a lot from the start of the game, turning himself into a scapegoat since chapter 1 and pretty much looked after everyone..however...his mental health went south and he ended doing the things he did. All those things are why he's such a memorable, tragic and beautiful character for me. In the JP version, its much more specified he planned to be executed in chapter 4, but Monokuma trolled him halfway through, and only executed Gonta. I understand exactly how he felt in every moment and why he did every thing he did. Our leader..💜
@@spiritualelement757 tbh, I don't think he's a compulsive liar. It's not like he can't control his lying? It's not like he says something and thinks "Oh no, my big fat mouth". He always lies intentionally, there's always a purpose behind his words, especially in the KG when he tried to be as antagonizing as possible (again, for a bigger goal). He kind of protects himself with his lies and is perfectly capable of being honest, like he does actually pretty often. When you play his route and get to read his thoughts during the Salmon Team, you can see that he actually considers to stop lying entirely just to be closer with Shuichi. This is just... really not how compulsive lying works. Ofc I always could be wrong, I just really don't see those "pathological/compulsive liar" part which is really popular in the fandom. I replayed the game several times, but I can't get the idea. :(
