Bill thanks for this video. I used dielectric grease on the terminals on the group 65 AGM battery in my 2014 Edge.

You’re absolutely right, I’ve had the same discussion with people. I use it on all my batteries, truck, my wife’s mkx, my quads.
my side by side that gets very wet
I remove and treat entire fuse panel every year and have never had a problem.

Dielectric diatribe!!! Great information, and I agree with all you said.

Ok, my two cents, some time ago, I made some bolt-on 12 volt DC electrical connections with dielectric grease on my RV thinking I was doing the right think like many people do by smeering it all over all the metal parts first and when finished I found out I lost continuity. I had to scrape all the grease off and clean up everything with alcohol to repair it and it worked fine. I now make my electrical connections first and then apply the dielectric grease around the outside of the connection to protect it.
I'm not here to convince you and I'd like you to consider that maybe you get away with using this dielectric grease (which is an insulator) because when you tighten the connector it pushes out the grease and makes metal to metal contact. You could also just use silicone caulk or RectorSeal No. 5 Pipe Thread Sealant and it would do the same thing. If you use AGM batteries you will stop having corrosion at your battery terminals as well.
I use to work at a Solar RV shop and I've replaced hundreds of wet-cell lead acid batteries and the corrosion was horrible. When wet-cell lead acid batteries charge they produce hydrogen gas and that's what causes the corrosion at the terminals, that doesn't happen with AGM's because there is no off-gassing (or very little). So in our shop we never used dielectric grease as you have explained. Do some experiments and good luck.
