- Title: Letterbomb
Album: American Idiot
Lyrics:
Nobody likes you...
Everyone left you...
They're all out without you...
Having fun...
Where have all the bastards gone?
The underbelly stacks up ten high
The dummy failed the crash test
Collecting unemployment checks
Like a flunkie along for the ride
Where have all the riots gone
As the city's motto gets pulverized?
What's in love is now in debt
On your birth certificate
So strike the fucking match to light this fuse!
The town bishop is an extortionist
And he don't even know that you exist
Standing still when it's do or die
You better run for your fucking life
It's not over 'till you're underground
It's not over before it's too late
This city's burnin'
It's not my burden
It's not over before it's too late
There's nothing left to analyze
Where will all the martyrs go when the virus cures itself?
And where will we all go when it's too late?
And don't look back
You're not the Jesus of Suburbia
The St. Jimmy is a figment of
Your father's rage and your mother's love
Made me the idiot America
It's not over 'till you're underground
It's not over before it's too late
This city's burnin'
It's not my burden
It's not over before it's too late
She said I can't take this place
I'm leaving it behind
Well she said I can't take this town
I'm leaving you tonight
For those who dont know where in the story this song takes place: The Jesus of Suburbia gets a letter from his gf, Whatsername. Shes telling him shes leaving him because he's become everything he once despised. This song is both her goodbye and her telling him to wake tf up and get a reality check
There was a musical about this album (telling the story that this is telling) that ran on broadway in 2010. I HIGHLY recommend that. It tells the story so so so clearly and adds a few new characters and story lines along the way. Plus Green Day wrote the book (script/story) so you know it’s true to the original. Plus it has a few songs from 21st Century Breakdown which rly add to the story
@@wubbalubbadubdub3762 i already knew about the play
What's the play called?
@@rangedweevil6150 Its just called American Idiot: A broadway musical
@@jonathanbishop6205 I thought it was called Broadway Idiot.
“Where will all the martyrs go once the virus cures itself.”
Damn.
damn one month later and that line is almost better
I came here JUST for this line
It’s relevant to these times we’re in now 2020
Stole that right out of my mouth fucker 😂
2021 here, Nothing's changed.
I genuinely believe this is the best song Green Day has recorded.
With Watsername
Agree
100% agree so underrated yet so genius at the same time , a work of art truley
Tuff thing to say but not a bad dong to say its the best first time i gave it a chance and its fucking amazing

No dislikes on this song. Just how it should be, but on every song by green day.

hahaha :')
Cotton CandyMan
Then 40 people fucked it up
I want to correct you and say that there's now 52 dislikes on this video, but I also don't because I want it to be true.
well... now that is made true but for like, every video ever.

Yep. That’s accurate....😐

This song has some strong dookie vibes. It’s like Billie stayed the same at the core but still grew up a lil. I love it
This is harder than anything on Dookie, it sounds more Insomniac to me.
I have always thought the same about this song, and it is by far my favorite on this album
strong Dookie vibes is a nice way to word it☠
Id say it sounds a lot like platypus at parts
That pay of at 2:42 and then again at 3:14, mwuah beautiful
This was always my favorite Green Day song ever since I bought this album the day it came out back in the day.
Bonus points for liking CoCam
American Idiot was such an iconic album, used to blast it,I'm 38 now and still think its the best Green Day album they have done
Oh Gosh has the years gone by so fast, I remember when this came out and haven't stopped loving since!
Legends will like this song always and for all eternity!!
Underrated Song
Brilliant 🤘🇧🇷
Watching Journey 2: The Mysterious Island just now, and my ears perked up when I heard this in the opening scene! So cool!
best song on the album
i thought ur pfp had vsauce on it
Tbh I think the same, it's actually in my 10 favorite Green Day songs
absolutely
Personally, my favorite is Jesus of Suburbia.
Hard agree
Green Day s finest hour
“Where will all the martyrs go when the virus cures itself”
Literally living this right now.
Goosebumps...
this sounds like 90s green day song like some insomniac song
It does!!!
sounds like 86
probably because its obviously inspired by PCP from the manic street preachers, which was made in 1994
The instrumental especially is basically She and Basket Case having an affair
@@memeteam2692 True. Definitely a more "90s" sounding GD song, than most songs from AI and after that
even though it's not the actual lyrics, I always thought it was more fitting if the song ended with:
"Jesus, I can't take this place, I'm leaving it behind.
Jesus, I can't take this town, I'm leaving _you_ tonight."
That would be fucking PERFECT
That riff though 😌
This song was how I felt when I was the loneliest. I had “friends” but they never included me. I was an outsider in that group and I remember always thinking “Nobody likes you, everyone left you”
Yo that opening has never hit before like it just did...
where have all the bastard's gone
The guitar at 3:14 Is pure fucking perfection 😍😘
Having jammed it with friends can confirm this is so much fun to play
The little guitar solos too. Best song ever
sounds GOOD
I fucking love when this song picks up a lil energy. True breakout moment. Same with the pre-chrous. What happened, green day? Yo billie. Write another one like this, and ya golden. 🤷♂️
They tried to with 21st century breakdown but at the time people didn’t like it. People like it now compared to what I remember at least, but that pretty much killed Green Day’s confidence in a way.
@@davemac9563 I think it was just bound to be impossible to follow this up. Billie talks about how this is hands down the album he put the most of himself into and I think when you pour so much of your heart and soul into one thing, it's damn near impossible to top it. I mean this album literally revolutionized music at that time. If this album didn't exist, people would've though 21st CB was a 10/10 album. But this set the bar impossibly high. The amount of bands that drew inspiration from this era of Green Day is crazy. It's a shame punk fell off shortly after.
Why didn´t anyone tell me that it´s Kathleen Hanna´s (Bikini Kills, Le Tigre) voice in the start? Impossible to get tired of this brilliant song. Thank you very much ;)
Green Day´s a way of live
This song makes you question who you are and where you are
@0:34 I was about to sing the chorus part of 'Gloria, Viva la Gloria'. 😂😂😂
OmG it does sound like Viva La Gloria when I heard that part
I got a letterbomb 2 weeks ago,had this song played since xd
My dad played this song all the time for me when I was a kid
my favorite song
+RetroSkateboards me to
+daniel cawsey *too
Let's strike the fucking match to light this fuse!
Why do I feel like this has some connection to COVID
😂
AND the protests. This is the 2020 anthem riot here (do you get it?).
1) Democrats are speaking out against Communist countries like China and North Korea.
2) the Democratic Party has broken this country in many ways, but the Republican Party is equally guilty. Vilifying immigrants, keeping minorities on the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder, squashing LGBT rights every chance they get, turning a public health crisis into a political issue, and treating anyone with different opinions as a radical leftist with an evil agenda who hates America.
@CRIMNALSNEAK I should´ve been more clear. Democratic politicians will try to keep things friendly with China because money, but a lot of other influential Democrats like John Oliver and Hasan Minhaj have made extensive pieces on the numerous human rights abuses by China´s government on their own citizens, and people have listened.
I don’t know, why don’t you explain it?
This sounds like Stuck With Me
Tbh I think it (the beginning after "Nobody likes you") kinda sounded like a mix of Armatage Shanks and another song from Insomniac I can't remember
because nobody remembers insomniac
Tbh Insomniac is my favourite album. I'm not a walking Wikipedia so I'm not so sure what song it was.

2:20 SHAAAAAAAAIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!
I think this song was supposed to be on Cigarettes and Valentines.
IMS Productions I doubt it, it perfectly fits the plot of American Idiot
Probably. Some of the AI material was.
True, but I think it should have been on 21st Century Breakdown.
Happy 15th
I was today years old when I found out Kathleen Hanna from Bikini Kill was on this track

Hey this is pretty good
Heeey, that's mildly etiquette.
Fizzy Fiddlesticks is your icon Homestuck?
yup
The tune in this track sounds a lot like Viva La Gloria
"being urged to ([be overwhelmed to] nervously) heed to be bothered enough to reenact roles of regarding and choosing objectifying expressive settle accordingly ruined my authenticity of opinions and obviously intelligence (figuring comparisons of concerning elaborations about regarding choices objectifiably enough to contrast comparability of or about elaborating regarding and choosing similarly [which would be a satisfying thrill to not endure like.])"
You were early.
10 years too early.

Standout AI song, underrated GD song in general. Banger!
The song would be perfect if they started off with a hit hat counting for 0:18.
Fun Fact: this song was originally going to be called clusterbomb
I wish the song was longer.. but Jesus of suburbia is enough for me
when you're listening to depressing music and get an ad for something called Marapets

Are they all out to get you?
Where will all the martyrs go when the virus cures itself?
And where will we all go when it's too late?

My friend, your taste is amazing. K-pop is personally not my favorite; but I respect u
This makes more sense if you're my age and same taste's in music but Letterbomb in Green Day's American Idiot is to as DEAD! from My Chemical Romance s The Black Parade, both absolutely gems and the unspoken badasses of the albums

I feel like a lot of this song is more relevant now than ever before. The USA is quieting down for all the wrong reasons. Bring back the protests, a new president isnt gonna fix centuries of racism
