Bought this kit last week off Andy Love, I've been putting a few hours in and great bit of kit. I prefer picking these locks but it's great to have another option at the door. Good video I always pick up tips on using gear. Thanks. Alan from Glasgow.
Cheers Alan, yeah they are great tools but now GJ has brought out the Fortress pin and cam tool I’m in 2 minds whether to buy it as this one works so well
bloggs692413 very wise investment pal, I use mine at least once/twice a week....only one more bit of advice is to keep checking it’s calibrated cause it’s easy to knock it put by one reading through using it travel etc
Glad you’re enjoying the content pal, there’s only so much they can teach you on locksmith training/courses the rest you have to learn as you go along 😂👍🏻🔑
The pin and cam is much quicker once you’re proficient in the tool as it physically picks the levers, so depending on lever heights can get the lock open in 30 seconds
Dyfrig james well I’m glad they are of use, I’ve only been a locksmith for a couple of years and they are essential in my opinion. Sure, you can pick a lock open most of the time, but when you’ve got a customer stood behind you in the rain waiting to get in they are a lifesaver! The price is the same whether it takes you 5 minutes or an hour to gain entry so why not use the easiest option!!
That’s exactly right buddy, I’ve had some success with mortice picking but as you said it would be the fastest means of entry especially in the rain. I’ve been looking up some decoders, but I’m very limited as to where I can get them from atm as I’m not a trading locksmith, so it’s abit of a case of trying to get the tools bit by bit.
Dyfrig james you will struggle to get any decoders most security firms want proof of training and trading, although they do pop up on eBay every now and then, I’m going to do a video on the top 10 most important tools for starting out, a lot of stuff out there you won’t need straight away 👍🏻
Sometimes you can slip behind the lever and the bolt and it will give you a ‘false number 1’ , on right mounted locks I’ll always push down and go as far in as I can so I’m under lever 1 then read backwards to lever 5
@@FortressLocksmiths thanks mate. A good read on 3 and it solves 5 anyway as you know. Maybe my wire needs bending. The right hand wire was not at 90degrees out of the box
@@FortressLocksmiths ok so I dont understand the definition of fortress/strongbolt/yale definition. I thought that was brand. Could you explain if its not too much hassle or make a video. As I said before mate I'm a joiner starting out doing locks and learning mainly from yourself or on the job 🤣
Pompey Picker of course there’s such a thing! I think everyone’s an amateur locksmith when they first start trading, cause no amount of practice prepares you for what you come across out in the field....but yes, this kit is ESSENTIAL in my eyes, I don’t know what its like down south, but nearly every other mortice lock up here is either a Fortress or a Strongbolt
Pompey Picker then indeed get the Decoder pal, fair enough these can be picked obviously but why not make life easier and be able to open 3 different types of lock with NDE 🔑🔑 after that I’d say the ERA viscount/profit is the second most common I come across, and again I just use the Decoder on them

Great content, sorry to hear about your van
Andy Anderson thank you, I’m afraid these things happen, all we can do is carry on 🔑🔑👍🏻
What's the difference between this one and the Pin & Cam pick/decoder?, and which one would you say is better/quicker?.
The pin and cam is much quicker once you’re proficient in the tool as it physically picks the levers, so depending on lever heights can get the lock open in 30 seconds
Good work
Long winded maybe but cracking video thank you...

Cheers pal, hope you take something from it 👍🏻🔑
Awesome explanation 👍 thank you
Dyfrig james thank you for the positive feedback 👍🏻
I’m hoping to get into locksmithing at some point, so finding your videos has really helped with a better understanding of mortice lock decoders.

Got mine today mate. It’s good. Do you have trouble getting a read of lever 5 when locks on right hand side?

Quick question mate, would this kit not work on the era and asec 5 lever mortice sashlocks then?
This is the ERA sashlock pal?? But no it won’t work on Asec different levers completely

Good stuff gonna get me one of these
Absolutely essential pal, other than the ERA Viscount kit which I use more than any other
Enjoying your vids mate
great video
Chris Osborn cheers pal, hope you find it useful 🔑👍🏻
Great video mate 👍🏻
Pompey Picker cheers pal, it really is an essential part of the kit 💪🏻🔑

Fortress Locksmiths pretty much the same mate, as you said most people just go to Screwfix or B&Q as there is always one close by

Well pissed off.... Just got this kit from Aldridge and it's still the old version.
Looks like a beaver gnawed that key bitting.🦫
