    Update from Airtec for the Cypres AAD:
    1. We do not know about any malfunction that occurred with our AAD while using it correctly.
    2. Waterproof 24 hours for 8 feet (2,5 meters)
    3. No jump, but a flight counter
    4. The changeable mode does not include the WSC.
    5. The change of the single modes does also not include the WSC.

    I was entangled in someone's lines and couldn't reach my cut away handles . My AAD shot and saved my life...

    The rig I learnt to jump on had a mechanical AAD (or AOD, as we called it at the time). It was a HUGE clockwork device that would pull the main pin at a set altitude. It would trigger every time, regardless of what you were doing. You'd hear a the clockwork whirring, then a click as the cable retracted.
    If I recall, it was a small ring that sat around the cable to your ripcord, and was armed by pulling a cable to wind the mechanism. My instructor had to arm it once we'd climbed well past the activation altitude, or you'd open in the aircraft.

      Wow. This must be an old mechanism...

      @@SkydiveVibes It sounds like the KAP-3. That was before my time, but during my earlier jump career in my 20's, I had an FXC on my rig at the time.

      I used the FXC on my first several jumps. On my 17th jump it fired while my main was fully open at above 2500 feet. I chopped and landed the reserve.

    "The life saving device that every skydiver should jump with" I would have some points against that statement as a swooper doing 360+ rotation at a 2.5+ WL. Don't trust AAD's to not fire during a dive. Btw, all AAD's use barometric pressure to read height and speed, which isn't accurate enough for swooping, so the available settings aren't to be trusted. I always switch it off when doing hop n pops and limit to 270 rotation when doing regular jumps and swoop.

      Good point, but this video is more for the majority of jumpers. I'll remember that though.

    This is an informative video. However, I wouldn't call it a review. You're more summarizing the info that is available online for each product. I would like to see an honest review where skydivers share their actual opinions about the various AAD models.
    Thank you for the information.

    I have the Vigil Cuatro. According to my rigger, the parts for Cypres and Vigil come from the same warehouse.

      Skydive Vibes I hear from people (not you) that Vigil doesn’t work or Cypres doesn’t work. One of our S&TAs who’s also a rigger, TI and AFFI said the internals all come from the same place. To downplay one is the same as downplaying your favorite. It’s like the people who have a favorite car brand. Ford is no better than Chevy or vice versa. All items can have flaws or not operate the way they should. I’m a believer that as long as I have an AAD back there, I’ve done my part in ensuring my safety. From that point, it’s up to the device to operate properly if needed.

    • @SkydiveVibes
      @SkydiveVibes  6 років тому +1

      Jason C they are all supposed to work as they should and every brand have had flaws at some point. But it's really uncommon. I agree that no one is better than another. It's all about choice and maybe preference on the maintenance schedule.

      I just heared that there was or were some virigl units with production error and now cutting knive, but it was just "grapevine". 'cause i am living in germany i think that i am going for a cypres after i got my licencse and a few jumps :)
      btw weight is the same with all models?

  • @ajsphinx
    @ajsphinx 6 років тому +1

    if I'm not wrong, the pricing and the benefits don't match. Less benefits for higher cost and vice versa. what's the logic?
    Anyways nice and informative video as always.

    • @SkydiveVibes
      @SkydiveVibes  6 років тому +1

      I guess the prices are set according to the brand because the MarS m2 is less popular and somewhat new on the market so less demand for it.

    We never jumped AAD. I had a round reserve and a pull out deployment. Sex was safe and skydiving was dangerous.
