How is Henrietta Lacks relevant? She is hardly responsible for the accident of biology that enabled all of this research. The people who should be remembered and praised are the scientists who were behind the experiments and the collection of her cells. Also, there is no question of ethics here. Basic utilitarian principles state that consent of the few doesn't matter if you are helping the majority. In this case, you are comparing the minor interest of a single person to the major interest of the global human population.
The Truthful Channel Have you read the book? Henrietta's cells were taken from her without consent (and the family's lack of information) and they did so to many other people in public hospitals in the 1950s. Even if Henrietta signed a consent form she still may not have fully understood what she was allowing because of her lack of education. They did not know that her cells would continuously grow like they did, so doctors were unaware that they would help the majority through violating her privacy. It is still relevant pertaining to access to healthcare for poorer individuals and the rights that people are entitled to when their biological materials are taken from them.
Rebecca Lustig, how was she harmed? In order to have a case, a person needs to have standing. There is no standing without harm. Also, there is no such thing as "the rights that people are entitled to when their biological materials are taken from them." If you believe in inherent rights, you should read Jeremy Bentham's critique of the declaration of independence.
