The Spurs Offense is an Absolute Treat

- The San Antonio Spurs have in my opinion, the best and most well executed offense in the NBA. They run their plays, and move well to get great shots for the likes of Tony Parker and Tim Duncan.

dat door at 8:00
pop is a god
pop didn't invent the elevator screen, it's just a GENIUS play. the warriors love it
that elevator play was sick.
You prolly dont care but does anybody know of a way to get back into an instagram account?
I stupidly lost the login password. I love any help you can offer me.
@Louis Collin instablaster =)
7:49 what a cool play
Wow did not know you can do that lol
1:58 i'm reminded of the famous sideline interview with Pop where he answers the question with "he's Manu Ginobili":
He's Tiago Splitter.
Haha looked that up funny quote.
After watching last nights game 3 NBA final against The Heat. Wow! What a clinic by the Spurs. best ever.
This was wonderful. Spurs offense brings tears to my eyes. Your explanations help me understand. Thanks for posting.
Perfect Passing, Perfect Cuts, Off-ball Screens etc No other Team in History that executed as Perfect halfcourt Team Offense than the Spurs.. Hawks and Warriors Today is just a Copy of Poppovich's Spurs. IMO this Spurs can beat any Team in History, their offense is just too Advanced and too Perfect
+Peter Griffin Yeah. I love this type of offense. The amount of fundamentals in this is ridiculous. The best part about this is that this type of basketball is that it favors being wise, so the older they get, the more productive they can be.
exactly.. imagine if all of these guys were also in their athletic primes.. Pops was just a God lol.. hes best ever at coaching IMO
Peter Griffin
Coaching goat.
Damn Daniel
Man, as a Blazers fan, this series was painful to watch. The Spurs play on a whole other level of basketball.
you are clearly a fan of coach nick and bball breakdown. which is great, I love his videos and he doesnt do a ton of Spurs videos, since he wants to cover the whole league evenly. good analysis
Thanks and yeah I'm a pretty big fan of the videos he makes at bballbreakdown.
Coach Daniel Great vids mate, keep up the great work!
Coach Daniel Is your channel kinda like that? I just subscribed assuming it is
Mario Sklant Yes its similar and thanks for subscribing.
Coach Daniel is miles and miles above Nick's videos! Daniel breaks down the plays in a much more concise way and doesn't dive into the analytics as much as nick does. Daniel>Nick anyday anytime.
Gotta love the elevator play man!
Great video! Keep bringing them on!
i like your style. simple and straight to the point...
This just reminds me how bad Scott Brooks is.
Haha. Play 1 Durant Iso. Play 2 Westbrook Iso. Play 3..some guy you don't want shooting takes a shot.
*GREAT* video. Wished you freeze framed it a little bit more and circled the players, etc... but beggars can't be choosers.
I really love the elevator screen with Mills at about 8:00... one of my favourite plays, 'cause it's so efficient when executed properly.
incredible video coach daniel!
7:50 so good
All of these plays work but the absolute best play I think was the elevator play, not to be funny. It works amazing how the two pics cut the the teammates's man off and he gets an open shot. The players who are the defending the 2 guys that are setting the pics won't get to the shooter because they are playing man. Very nice play if u have a shooter that can hit shots.
Yep a great play for any level.
you just can't win as the guy defending the one getting the elevator screens. if you trail the play and try to get around the two screens he can either shoot or drive on the other side of the screens
Tony vs the Blazers, thx for this video Coach D!
I have to admit, Parker is a great playmaker and scorer... He reads the play so well.. 🙌
Tim Duncan ON THE WING during SHUFFLE CUT. 😀😀😀
A BIG
Great content. I was surprised by the amount of subs you have.
That elevator screen though.... Sick!
you got yourself a new subscriber, sir. great video!
great sharing!! Learn a lot
greg pop greatest coach all time
Great video
This was the only takeaway from the Spurs Championship against my Heat, such beautiful, record shattering gorgeous basketball. It still hurts, but that pure unselfish basketball was amazing to see in action.
DregsandguanStill a heat fan? Thank you for being a real loyal fan. The world needs more fans like you.
most of these comments are guy who prolly know the game really well, but for ppl like me who dont know much, you've done justice my friend.
I like how you said Tony Parker can abuse Lillard. Tony Parker is the best finisher in the NBA.
That elevator play, I love it hahahaha
You get a sub from this Tar Heel for slipping a Dean Smith reference into a Spurs video. :-)
You should have a halftime show! BTW Parker traveled at 7:41 :)
2013-2014 spurs put on an incredible display of how team basketball is played. and we havent seen anything like that in years
literally everything was clicking for the spurs going into the finals
i wish the spurs still ran a offense like this with all the passing but its understandable considering the two best players (kawhi and LA) are effective posting up
2014 Spurs > 2015 warriors and 2016 cavs
Best channel out there for a breakdown of the x's and o's in the NBA. Do the Spurs still run similar actions in 2019?
Thanks. And they run many different plays but yes a lot of similar actions. Most NBA teams run similar actions
I was about to comment about the elevator play but i guess there's no need hahahahah
Lakers have Isaiah Thomas at backup PG, I would love to use this San Antonio Spurs Motion Offense next year while keeping Isaiah Thomas on the Lakers 😎😎😎.
Aweosme vid and do you think the Spurs will win it all?
Thanks and yes. I think they'll beat OKC in 6 and Heat in 7.
Lol spurs in 5
Coach Pop is a genius, however he is off court. He needs two extremely smart players to implement these offensive strategies. And i think he has more than 2, Parker,Duncan,Ginobili
And Mills
well duh he's off court, hes a coach lol. pop obviosuly needs intelligent players to buy in and implement his system. This is why 1) aldridge is not fitting well (bc he doesn't know how to play fluid offense) & 2) this would never work with low iq players, such as carmelo anthony or russell westbrook.
Basically a bunch of screen and rolls trying to draw in defenders, cuts and passing. Rarely do they ISO and when they do usually it's a mismatch or in good postion.
at 3:15 that travel lmfao
Kyp Ridenhour You know nothing.
go to 3:18 the passer takes 4 steps slow it down if you have to so if I dont know anything then you must be the dumbest person on earth!!!
Not a travel if you play in the nba lol
Would be a great coach
at this point, daniel was like 14 years old. what the fuck.
Question for discussion: is the spurs offense advanced enough to beat MJs i guess 97-98 bulls team. in other words who would win?
+Sexy Pancake Tough to say. I would lean towards Bulls though.
Depends. Are we allowed to play zone? Then Spurs. If illegal D is a foul, then the Bulls.
I wish the Bulls could run an Offense like this, I know that that Drose could easily play the roll of Tony Parker, he would just need to stop jacking up all them 3's, Gasol, Noah, Mirotic can pass I would rather Noah come off the bench or soothing though because if he isn't passing well then he can be a huge liability, Jimmy can be like Ginobli but younger and better, not at passing but most thing these days, the only problem is the Bulls roll player are not as good, Bulls need a proper back up PG or 2 and more guys you can put in a pick n roll that can shoot.
Is that screen by Duncan an illegal one? He is screening in the move..
What do you use for film editing / breakdown?
Chris Dorsey Video pad video editor from 2012.
Do you coach? I am the head coach at lyndon state college in VT. Looking for an assistant next year.
Chris Dorsey Hey Chris, no I do not coach currently.
What's your email?
www.lyndonhornets.com
Yes, but the warriors got....shooters. Thompson, Curry, Kevin D, Green...and the bench scorers. They are a big weapon when the clock wines down to the mins
Popovich said he hates 3-pointers because they distort basketball. 😀😀😀
Nevertheless not going to let another team have something his team doesn't.
Coach Daniel, please identify the differences between a loop and a floopy. Cheers.
The loops starts with a zipper cut and is 3 consecutive screens around. Also the angle of the screen to me seems a bit different. It's a very similar play but I prefer the loop.
Thanks coach, keep up the good work.
RJ Mitte is a spurs fan
can you run motion weak and motion strong as your basic half-court offense without any other plays
?
Sure, and if it's layered it'd still be tough to defend (at lower levels).
You sound like this kid I know named Daniel Green...
2:00 2k cheese
I miss splitter
wat is the music that is used in the video??
+Alcadeias01 ua-cam.com/video/qsb58q1rXz8/v-deo.html
+Coach Daniel much appreciated thanks
it's ok...versus baaad D....look at that defensive spacing - offense uses just one side of the floor - blazers would have better chances to contest a shot on that side if they just put their five largest players on that side with arms up :( this guy knows basketball and stuff @Maximilian Jung add him on fb;)
ua-cam.com/video/1fKtu6YoIxg/v-deo.html
Pre 3 point revolution however they no longer have the big 3 or those great role players green baynes splitter bellinelli et. Al.
Subscribed.
manu was the first to do that, harden just took it from him
what is the spurs offense called?
+gryphon blaze There's no particular name for it. Just a disciplined motion offense with set plays integrated into it.
+Coach Daniel ah ok tnx for the info.
what is Lopez doing anyways
Ne thing besides saging off is a soft double which can be abused by a slip n pass when ur getting ur picks at the free throw line.
Great video. The background music loop is a bit annoying on the distance though…
does he travel at 4:56 ? im confused
nope, he use pivot and then jump off with 2 legs in the same time.
+delvin william he jumped off with his left leg only
Eason Qin
well,if you're the referee you probably won't see that,and boom !
You mean "Threat" not Treat?
No treat like a privilege
Boris diaw a good shooter... Lol
He lit it up in the finals... In his 3 years with SA he is shooting 40% from 3... 'That is very good.
TCool12389 and he is a big man which makes it far more great.
Anyone one else spot Duncan's travel
Yes, to Christiansted, St-Croix @ the Virgin Islands, almost every summer, what are you getting at?
Ha
He really does travel alot when he get the ball on top like that to initiate the offense. He does it so often that I was worried that refs might start calling it during the playoffs. No worries anymore, they won it all.
That one-two step is completely legal. You are aloud to do that to maintain balance after catching the ball. Lots of players do this in the NBA.
Marc Murphy
Well, that may be how they enforce the rule, but Duncan pretty clearly breaks the rule as written at
www.nba.com/analysis/rules_10.html?nav=ArticleList Section XIV-Traveling. He catches the ball with his left foot on the floor (count one), steps right (count two), then steps left (count three--Houston, we have a problem) before sort of coming to a stop on both feet while making the pass. If they're going to enforce that as legal, they should rewrite the rule.
They flop that's how the win 20 percent of their games
houston rockets harden must learn thro this
BBall breakdown wannabe
more like james harden copied ginobili
robin lopez is the horrible defense in these videos he sags on the pick roll and still cant defend the screener he suppose to be up on those screens
bballbreakdown is much better..
Good vid, but next time don't include missed shots.
I think the purpose of the video is to show how they get open for shots. Whether they make them or not isn't the point.
I get the point, just saying that only makes should be included, imo.
LRPFilming no. a good play isn't dependent on whether or not the player makes the shot, it's if the player gets a good shot. if open/easy shot meant made shot every time, every player would be 100% from the free throw line.
idiot
I demand an apology.
this title is so corny it makes me cringe
Gotta love the elevator play man!
