Hi Ms. Taste Pink! This is my 3rd video watching you use the crochet method to create some beautiful masterpieces that look fantastic on you, and I am very excited about learning this process for myself. I'm coming out of a situation where I paid someone to apply crochet braids to my hair because I have alopecia areata and wanted the opportunity to return back to wearing these types of hairstyles. The process isn't new to me; it was known as "interlocking" in the mid to late 1990s, here in Northern California, when I started the process to grow out my relaxer in 1999.
Unfortunately for me, I lost funds dealing with a horrible job done on my hair, which didn't last 2 weeks, and wanted to fight this in small claims court when this "charlatan" refused to refund my money. I decided to move forward for something else, and when looking at videos online, I came across many women who were actually making their own wigs, but I never thought I could do this myself, having worn and purchased wigs for a few years now.
I have hair from my last crochet in 2014 that is braided and I'll be make my 1st wig using that hair this weekend, and my 2nd wig will be the hair that I had purchased to have my hair redone. The hair is a looser pattern similar to what you displayed in the video, and is packaged as 3 different lengths (8, 9, and 10 inches) with the advertising that 1 box is enough. I expect to separate 3x and go from there.
Nevertheless, I will keep watching your videos for more tips of the trade! I have my sturdy wig head (like yours), T pins, thread/weaving needles, hair clips, mousse to tame, latch hook, and crochet caps. My husband built me a stand where I can clamp my head on it, allowing me to and sit or stand comfortably. I used to make latch hook rugs used the tool you used in this video, so that's easy for me, also having added pieces of braids in the past.
