IMO the BEST song they ever did. A real powerhouse. Let me explain: this one just hits me right in the heart. The others were more pop; which is OK, but I guess I'm just a fan of the raw garage band sound sung with heavy emotion.
My girl was an Eddie Brigati fan. This was considered HEAVY , and the girls loved it. I'd get an extra inner thigh rub, when this came on my "65"GTO radio.Luv ya Re'nee !!
at 77 i was a soph in college when this song hit the airwaves...rascals always had a superb baseline and drum set that was ahead of their time ! What great Songs and memories !!! db
My girl Re'nee back in the day was an Eddie Brigati fan.If he'd had his teeth fixed the girls would have gone crazy. I'd get an extra rub up my thigh in my"65"GTO when this came on that great AM radio from Re'nee.
I remember first hearing this number when it first came out, and it really stood out from the other pop hits of the day. White soul at its finest and most powerful.....
wore-out the 8-track of the Rascals Greatest Hits in a 1965 Mustang in the year 1968. All the songs are so great that, when I hear a noise or the right words of a song's lyrics it makes me hauntingly remember these songs. They will never leave you because no one will make better.
This song hit the charts Hard !! The day it came out the Rascals weren't considered that mid-sixties clean cut band anymore and there fans along with NEW ONES loved it .....
Damn! I'm learning more and more about their music! Somd songs I didn't know they sang! I wasn't born in that era but, I tell you I'm a huge fan now! Love the Rascals!!!
we used to go to a place on Long Island called "the Barge" and see them before they got popular. When they released "I ain't gonna eat out my heart anymore" we (me and all my friends) were ecstatic...great memories.
I was a little too young for this band but as a teenager in the later 70s I discovered a glam rock band called Angel that covered this on their album called White Hot and they killed it. It also led me to the Young Rascals.
I am surprised that there are so many comments about this song. I live in the same town as Felix, and even went to the same high school (he was older than me), but I thought that this particular song was just local and never made it outside the local area....go figure!! I still remember all of their names.....even without looking it up!! Great band!!!
I grew up in Cranford, and here was a band that was considered local next to all the music coming from England. Remember watching them on Shindig or Hullaballoo and thinking how being in a band and being successful was actually a possibility if you're just a local boy. 77 WABC AM used to play the heck out of their songs and the Four Seasons.
They had such gutterial tunes when they first were released. This, You Better Run. AS they toned down they still rocked. Its a beautiful Morning, etc, just not quite as much Give me the tunes they released their first two years, they ALL rocked!!!!
I love the Rascals' music and I love the fact that they were one of the groups that stood up for racial equality and even refused to play certain venues that didn't honor racial equality. They were influenced by black artists and you could hear it in their music.
@@richardvellucci7399 No offense, I was repeating what I read in one of my books. Didn't want to take a political stance . I still respect people who stand for equality, regardless of color. It's just that for those times when there was much chaos in society, there were people who was willing to make things a little better. Again, no offense, the Rascals are still one of my favorites.
@@angelafisher299 No offense taken I was just curious as to your comment of a song that was played on radio and liked so well. Glad you revere such good music.
An awesome drummer who had roots in jazz with Lionel Hampton. I played in a band just down the road from where the Young Rascals were playing a summer gig in 1965.
@@soaringvulture Sadly, Dino passed away last year at the age of 77. May he R.I.P. Gene Cornish recently had a heart attack onstage in 2020, but recovered quickly, and is still performing, though he has to sit down on stage to play his guitar to be cautious with his health nowadays.
I first heard this song on a Saturday night oldies show on WSTW in Wilmington, DE back in September of 1990. I didn't know that this was their first record.
Produced, recorded & rehearsed at Atlantic Records during the labels heyday, The Rascals were on the pulse & had the best RnB/ Soul /Rock & Jazz at cultivate from !
Eddie Brigati singing lead on one of my two favorite Rascals songs. And the other one ("How Can I be Sure") has Eddie singing lead too. Coincidence? Nope.

One of my favorites by the Rascals. They were so so major in the 60s.
They were TIGHT!
I'm getting back into 60s music again.I was raised in that decade and have rediscovered it.Still got the power.
Listening to this transferred me back to 1967, with great music, what a great year to be alive and young in

Their best song. Great vocals. Great guitar solo in the middle. Organ is beautiful. Very well produced record. 10Plus
Yep we are getting older now but we had the best music, cars. And girls.
So much power and emotion packed into less than 3 minutes , I wish that song could go on for 10 minutes or more.
I lost my cherry listening to this in the back seat of my '68 Mustang! GREAT MEMORIES💕💕
Cherry pie sounds good!!
Brings back great memories!
sure does,
