  • Aldi Adventuridge 3 piece camping cook set for just £9.99... is it any good?

I paid a lot more for a Vango set very similar, that set now retails at £35 plus pounds.
Thank you keep up the good work. 👍

    Very nice find, good job.
Keep you eyes out though, on cheap pans on a very hot camping stove, the non-stick layer tends to crack and eventually bladder and even scratch off completely, you don’t want crums of non-stick chemicals mixed in with your food.
We’ve gone through a few of these sets over the years, and now use stainless steel pans, specifically designed for camping of course. They lasted us 7 years so far, and many more years to come.

Hello there Kevin, I got one of these sets yesterday and was surprised at the very decent quality of it. The frying pan could do with being just a wee bit bigger but it's good quality stuff for just ten pounds.

Yeah, I found for me and my youngest the pan is just about big enough, but a bit bigger wouldn't hurt. Can't go wrong for £9.99 really.

Watched about half of this and shot off to three Aldis in St. Louis. Found lots of other camping gear to spend my $$$ on, but not a cookset. If I had to guess, I think it hasn't come here yet. They were well stocked on just about everything else. I just found your channel, and I enjoyed this video. Subscribed and Liked. :) One pro tip on those sausages: Cook them in a little water and then finish browning when they're almost cooked through.

Try seasoning your pans first to increase their non-stickiness. Heat the pan up, put a little bit of oil in and wipe the oil around the pan with a paper towel. Take the pan off the heat and let it cool down completely. Standard cookware trick.

Thanks. I'll do that with the saucepans.

That was great Kev liked how you cut it to the Brecon beacons then back.
We bought one of those kits for when we go camping as a family about three years ago and have used it on a number of occasions. Never had a problem with it and thought it was great. 👍

Nice. It's a good camper or car camping set and I'd happily take the frying pan and saucepan on a hike.

Best to go with a skillet rated for fire use or cast iron. The skillet portion of these kits are designed for low heat dispersed flame or just as a plate.

Great video pal, think the budget ranges are getting better quality all the time. For the amount they are used you can’t go wrong. Their are obviously type of gear you do need to spend more on but stuff like this is going to do you great for the money. Don’t know why people poo poo these bits of gear

    👍👍👍
I don't have a problem using Aluminium .. as a 'Boomer' (YOB 1950), I was raised on food cooked in 'Hart' Brand non-anodised aluminium pots.
Did it harm me in any way? Maybe .. I don't remember 😏.
Seriously, I still use a middle-size Aluminium Billy .. a set of Mess Tins ('Dixies') .. the Pot on my Trangia 28 'Mini', all unanodised. However, I always use Wooden or Synthetic Cooking Utensils to reduce 'scratching' the soft Aluminium Surface .. just in case. The secret to cooking in Aluminium Pots is the keep the heat low and regular stirring to reduce food 'sticking' to the bottom.
That said .. my go-to is Stainless Steel. Titanium? Naah .. my pockets are not deep enough and I am not an exclusive 'boiler of water' only.
A good share .. thanks .. and I'm sure that, inter alia, those wanting 'to test the outdoor water' without 'breaking the bank' will get value from it.
    Take care ..

To spread an intense flame (heat source) first set a tin can lid onto the stove, then your cooking pan.

    • @TimmyBobinson
      @TimmyBobinson 4 місяці тому +2

      @@TheWalkingKev Steel or titanium.
Steel - solid, cheap as ali, cooks well, HEAVY.
Titanium, solid enough, expensive, doesn't cook so well except for boiling water, LIGHT.
Some Ti are being sold now with ceramic coatings that makes it semi non-stick. Let's hope there is more R&D into coatings.

Although the Aldi set is made from aluminium, it's coated so there is no risk of aluminum poisoning. It's not like the pure aluminum mess tins I used as a scout back in the early 1990s!
