I think what you point to is that Michael doesn't want to make everyone happy, he wants everyone to like him. That's a very different thing, because ultimately he's just trying to portray himself in the best way possible, but his great failing is that he always tries way too hard and it ends up biting him in the ass.
Michael Scott is a broken, insecure, unloved, unwanted child in a man's body. As such, he wants to be loved by everyone, but his childish, self-centered nature, including an innate desire to be the center of attention, tends to thwart that main objective.
"There's an old saying in Tennessee-I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee-that says, 'Fool me once, shame on...shame on you. Fool me-you can't get fooled again.'"
With how lowkey the office shenanigans were in Valentine's Day (and how it's ironically devoid of any progress in Jim and Pam's relationship), I forget how high stakes and epic the story is at corporate -- Michael's Desert Storm.
In the early seasons, I got frustrated with Pam. She was sticking with Roy, a guy who put NO effort into their relationship until she broke things off with him, instead of seeing Jim's genuine affection and love for her. She did come around in the third season.
Hey Jimmy! I just wanted to say that I love your videos (started watching since your LOST reactions) Your reactions and opinions feel really authentic and often when I try looking at other’s video reactions I feel like they exaggerate and say what their audience wants to hear. But if you don’t like or agree with something you say it. Now sometimes when I’m watching a show I know you’re watching I often think “oh I wonder what Jimmy is going to think about this” hahaha. Anyway, thanks for the videos!
Patrice really is the goat, when i first watched this on tv when it was coming out I sadly didnt know who he was but I learned about him a few years later and was hooked on his comedy style Idk about everyone else but I want top hear your unfiltered disgust of Michael lol
I don't mind the disgust at all haha. the deepening of his character only comes later, and while you can see some seeds of a good guy under the surface of all his shenanigans right now, I wouldn't blame anyone for a second for just not seeing it. plus, the show goes in a less realistic direction in later seasons, which was probably necessary to redeem him - in its more grounded season 2 heyday, yeah he is an ass, an ass who pulls "The Client" or "Craig isn't the sharpest tool..." out of his ass on occasion, but still an ass.
Patrice's "DAMN it, Michael!" is my all time favorite "damn it". I literally mutter that when something is being a pain even with nobody around named Michael.
🌟✨Michael doesn't want to make everyone happy, he wants to make himself happy, disregarding what anyone else feels about it. The Christmas episode was prime example of that. But your opinion of these characters are your opinion of these characters, and your opinion is valid, so there's no need to apologize for it! I love watching your reactions though, and happy you're now on team Jim/Pam! 🤍✨🌟
His goal isnt to make everyone happy. What he wants is for most everyone to like or look up to him. He doesnt know how to do that and says big things to be liked and then doesnt have the emotional or financial capacity to follow through so often disappoints. Hes five.
Bob Vance is the smartest buisineness man in the whole show. He knows that they are filming a series and makes it a point to have his companies name on repeat. Free marketing at every corner.
Michael's a manbaby. He craves love, attention and adoration and does whatever he can to get it and never thinks about the consequences of his actions.
I hated him until around season 4. By that point writers were able to better balance his annoying habits with his endearing ones. He also reminds me way too much of my old boss, so maybe I just enjoyed his character more when I wasn't dealing with someone similar irl.
To be honest, I used to be the Pam between a Roy and a Jim. The only difference is we didn’t work together and the Roy was physically bad to me. But still, even without the physical stuff my ex was just like Roy and you just can never feel important with people like that. It’s not about expensive flowers, chocolates and teddy bears, it’s about the bare minimum because you care about someone. I’m an American expat in Germany and Valentine’s Day isn’t much of a thing here, and my ex did literally nothing for it despite wanting to move to America so badly and knowing these things. Nothing for birthday or Christmas either. My current fiancé however who knows barely anything about America got me a gift without a second thought or prompting. Roy is annoying af 💀
It says at some point Pam and Roy went to prom together and thats when it clicked for me why are they even dating in the first place. They are high school sweethearts
Every time I watch season 2 I'm just astonished at the overall quality and episode hit rate. You can't even point to like the PB&J story as the reason its an all time comedy season, it is just non stop great writing. Its a rarity for 20+ episode seasons. This is probably Ryan and Kelly at their funniest, yeah? All downhill from here :P
I don't think that he genuinely wants to make others happy. I think that he narcissistically wants others to see him a certain way, but he's not competent enough to look like anything more than a screw up. Then he blames others for his screw ups.
First let's keep in mind that this is a COMEDY show so it would be pretty boring if everyone was a good employee... Dunder Mifflin doesn't like Michael. But still he stayed there for 15 years out of loyalty... He also cares deeply about Jim and Pam being happy together... Don't see what that has to do with him being liked. He also personally went to the CEO of DM's house just to save everyone's job at the Scranton branch. Not to be liked but because it was the right thing. He has childish moments but whenever he's confronted with his selfishness he does the right thing. Not judging you man you're entitled to your opinion but keep in mind you're at a point in the show where the writers haven't even figured the characters out yet so how can you? Wait till he leaves the show then see how you feel... 😢
Long time Office fan here. And I'm with you, Jimmy. I agree that Michael is THE WORST! While I find him very entertaining and the show is awesome, I never became the fan who finds Michael strangely endearing. He isn't. He is a man-toddler who desperately needs to grow up!
Ok...love your content Jimmy...but I just don't agree with the overreacting to Michael and his ignorant, spiteful, inconsiderate and dickish character. There is too many rules and regs over what is cool, not cool, angelic, or devilish behavior, and the constant judging and branding that goes on. I grew up all over the country and spent 3 years over seas and I met and have known every character in the office. Now while I agree that the behavior and his style is "awful"...I don't automatically start judging or placing him in any category. It is very possible for anyone to have the best of intentions but be brain dead at being social or being fluent in every damn rule of bullet point. I've known a hundred Michaels, Dwights, Jim's,Pam's. Most of what defines a person is based on what world he was surrounded by, the parents and friends he was around, and a bunch of other circumstances. I believe that Michael wasnt told no as a child. His dad wasn't around and his mother spoiled the shit out of them. The man was also desperate for attention and the need to belong, and that means he has no boundaries of trying to achieve his goals. That Brings me to Jim...I hate guys like Jim...he is always wanting to be the alpha, and needs to get his own way because if he doesn't...he retaliates in a direct attempt to embarass, bully or even hurt whomever challenges his role as the alpha. This is why Jim and Dwight are always in competition. Jim has always been threatened by Dwight, but where Dwights behavior is more of a suit of armor to shield his feelings and flaws. Jim is just out for himself. He wanted the managers job since day one...and even though Michael danced in his own minefield...Michael is still great at producing output that has given him a cushion from his many flaws. So to finish...I believe that JIM ..not Dwight or Michael are the real antagonist in the show. It's hard to catch because of Michaels flailing and kamikaze behavior. And Dwights outgoing, in your face personality. This is why you can't judge the guy purely by what is out in the open and causes the most damage and noise. This show more than others is an all you can eat buffet of analyzing character, and what life choices and circumstances do to build those characters. This is just my opinion...wanted to offer an opposing theory. Great stuff Jimmy!

that's what I've been saying, but he never agrees with me 😂😂

I like how Jan immediately violates federal law.
"There's an old saying in Tennessee-I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee-that says, 'Fool me once, shame on...shame on you. Fool me-you can't get fooled again.'"
He’s not trying to make people”Happy”
He wants to be loved and come off as “The COOL boss”
I love "Lost" reference in this episode
Dwight's face when he says "Exactly" gets me every damn time

I’m so glad you enjoy the Jim/Pam but especially Pam cause I tend to see a lot of unkind comments towards her. Loving these btw.
In the early seasons, I got frustrated with Pam. She was sticking with Roy, a guy who put NO effort into their relationship until she broke things off with him, instead of seeing Jim's genuine affection and love for her. She did come around in the third season.
@Aragem that's very akin to real relationships though. The sunk cost fallacy
The office is too epic.

My all time favourite moment from the show is when Michael knocks down all those shelves I was laughing for like 5 minutes haha
Bob Vance is a genius. He worked in a gimmick so that his business would get it's name announced repeatedly on a reality TV show.
Loving your office reactions and looking forward to checking out the other stuff on channel.

Michael's a manbaby. He craves love, attention and adoration and does whatever he can to get it and never thinks about the consequences of his actions.
I think you are 100% correct that Michael is awful. I always found it weird that the fandom sees him as decent enough person.
I hated him until around season 4. By that point writers were able to better balance his annoying habits with his endearing ones. He also reminds me way too much of my old boss, so maybe I just enjoyed his character more when I wasn't dealing with someone similar irl.

For the algorithm.
always forget that Jenna Fischer was married to James Gunn
GOAT Gunn
Which one is James Gunn? I can’t believe B.J. Novak (Ryan) wrote and produced like 15 episodes of The Office.
@@Betts711 James Gunn is the writer and director of the Guardians trilogy, TSS and peacemaker. He’s the Co-Ceo of Dc studios now

America has a weird relationship with unions!
8:18 Michael is never an objectively good person. Anyone who doesn’t believe that is kidding themselves

Agree in the current season Michael is the absolute worst. Hilariously awful. Angela is so funny/weird.

With all respect, why you’re watching this series if you’re not enjoying it?
Why would you think that?
Dude, he's _very_ clearly enjoying it.
Yeah I hate it when I laugh all the way through an episode.
What a dumb comment. Where did you get the idea that he isn’t?
Huh?
