I thought myself this valuable lesson as a new college student. Got a 2000$ credit card. maxed it out. could not get it paid off. parents paid off the card. i cut up the card
from that experience i learned and developed these personal rules.
      1. dont buy shit if you can't afford it.
      2. live within your means. ie dont buy 1800$ a month truck payment financial ancher 😂😂 like some studpid ppl do
      3. dont give a fuck about what others have . keeping up with the jonses
4 1 credit card is all you need.
5 . dont buy a house if you cant pay it off in 7 years. real estate agent doesnt give a fuck ur the one stuck paying monthly bills .after the fact.
6 set reasonable goals in life and stick to them.
      my success story
moved to Alberta 2007 with 5000$ in the bank.
worked 2. FT jobs for 6 years. put my wife through univeristy psid for her education and we saved 170 k
Bought 370 k. home. paid off 200k mortgage in 7 years
saved 150k in 3 years. after that bought house 2 . refinanced house 1
and rented it out.nat 3000$ a month room rental
home 2. brand new 700 k home from builder initial listing 850k . ssved 150kn NICE😂😂 now with 230k mortgage. will get it payed off in 7-10 years.
went from 5k to 600k net worth in 17 years.
no student loans no car loans. no lines of credit.
i drive and fix older cars. all cars i bought drive since 2007 had 100k. to 130k km sndnpurchaed for 6000$ or less with exceptions of wifes brand new suv we got in 2015. paid cash for it.35k

He was able to say that because he purchased his home for a handful or raspberries. My household brings in 5 times what my dad made and we live like we are in poverty. I have zero debt because my wife and I make over 200k a year, yet we will still live a poor version of what our parents had

We Are in Unchartered Financial Waters! every day we encounter challenges that have become the new standard. Although we previously perceived it as a crisis, we now acknowledge it as the new normal and must adapt accordingly. Given the current economic difficulties that the country is experiencing in 2024, how can we enhance our earnings during this period of adjustment? I cannot let my $680,000 savings vanish after putting in so much effort to accumulate them.

Yep, it is much cheaper to eat at home. You can get free recipes on the internet, I just print them, put them in page protectors, and into a 3 ring binder, then I can put in the recipes I actually use. I look for recipes that generally use basic ingredients, so it saves money. I also buy my meat when things go on sale and freeze them. Beef, pork, and chickens prices change all the time, so buy extra when it goes on sale and freeze it. When something is priced too high then I pass it by because I usually have that meat in my freezer that I bought at another time for less money. I have crock pots, a steamer, and even an electric routissourie that I bought on killer sales. I can make food just as tasty as a restaurant serves you for a fraction of the cost. People need to learn how to be more frugal with their money.

My family of 4 with grown children all live in one house. We don't go to restaurants, we eat good home cooked traditional meals. We don't buy meat, we hunt (no hormone or vaccine poisons for us). We don't drink alcohol or soda pop (we drink water and juice and coffee and we don't go to bars, we invite friends to our home to play cards and games ... Friends can drink if they want). We don't go to the movie theater (no spending $50 a person for entry and popcorn and pop) we watch a movie on Netflix on our 70" TV and have buttered popcorn and smoothies. We go shopping and pay bills once every two weeks (one tank of gas lasts 2 months). We use the air cooker and crock pot not the 220 v stove. We wear our clothes for 3 days at a time (one load of wash/per month/person). We hang our clothes to dry (220 v dryer is expensive). We don't go on expensive vacations that cost thousands (We go to the local parks, lake or river campsites and ride our bikes). My point is... look for ways to save money! The money we saved paid off 3 houses in 8 years. Think about what your doing with your money, make a budget, and save until you can invest. My family invests as a family. Fyi, credit cards will bankrupt you ... They are just legal mafia... I keep one for emergency only ... And if I ever use it I pay it off 100% before it accrues interest.

    • @sues3218

Correct, way too many Americans are trying to keep up appearances and getting into debt up to their eyeballs. It is better living debt free and being frugal with your spending. Life is less stressful that way. It also helps to know how to fix your own car, fix your own house, and make your own log furniture. It has saved our family tons of money over the years having those skills, and investing in those tools. We pay cash for everything, and we are able to save cash every month because we are not in debt up to our eyeballs. Most Americans don't have money saved for emergencies, that is sad. They had to have the newest, shiney, expensive toy to look good. It isn't worth it.

They have no problem showing up to their kid's soccer games with a $8 Starbuck's Latte. See a gen X neighbor with 6 bags of groceries from Whole Foods ($250/$300) . They spent $35,000 on their deck a couple of years ago. She drives a Porche Cyanne, He drives a top-shelf Audi SUV. Their oldest son goes to Syracuse University. They have everything done for them. It's like they print money. Amazing.

I used to drive to church every day. now i stay home every other day to save crazy gas price and only eat out when I get a free coupon trying to get me back to casino. where will we be in a year or five years. I suspect walking everywhere to buy vey expensive groceries.

I'm glad you mentioned the price of food, even fast food. I love to go to lunch everyday and read the WSJ. I am very selective about where I go for lunch these days. Like you I make a sandwich at home instead of going out. A lot of times I'll go to the local deli and have a $3 hotdog. I stopped going to places like 5 guys when the cost of a small burger, small fry and small drink was almost $20 and they spin the tablet around wanting a tip even though I went to the counter to order, went to the counter to pick up my food, got my own drink and cleaned my own table. What is the tip for? Today I want to Texas Roadhouse. A six ounce sirloin, backed potato and salad was cheaper than 5 guys. It was $13 after tax. You have to watch your money. You can still get deals but you have to work at it.

We will be alright as long as the SS and pension holds out, and the dollar doesnt crash? But I not holding my breathe for that. Dont know which will come first. Crash of dollar or crash of SS and pension. Im a realist, so I know we are all in big trouble. But as a christian, I know God will take care of us!❤

I got laid off from my job of 18 years and couldn't find work for over a year, the stress was so bad I had a heart attack from it, so imagine being out of work and no medical insurance and how much the bills are. I already have a civil judgement on me and went from a 860 credit score to a 382 now. I had to end up calling seven charities and five churches and only one helped me pay my power bill, the rest never even tried to help me. At 59 I own my house but can't even pay the utilities to stay in in, plus I have auto insurance and property tax on it and at the end of the year I have to pay property tax on the house. I ended up applying for food stamps and was denied it because at 59 I'm considered an abled body worker. If I don't find work before August I'll be homeless on the streets and die. When I die I won't have a funeral, burial or cremation because I'm broke and I can't donate my body to science because I had a heart attack and they want folks in good condition to experiment on.

Discover card will come after you at all costs to get their money. If they get a judgement against you, they will take it right out of your bank account. Some cards will just "write it off", and you get a form that you have to claim as income on your taxes. Others will keep sending you "special offers" to get you to pay. Ignore them, and at some point, depending on your state laws...they can not collect it. Don't ask me how I know.
