You should actually record the entire process of the repair, instead of just talking through 90% of your experience of repairing it, and then showing short clips. Yes I know it's more work, but it's more immensely helpful as a guide.

The hardest part of the entire process is removing the back panel of the sub and connecting wire to the sub. I removed some of the bad parts but you dont even have to do that if you dont want too. Besides that you just have to connect the small speaker wires to the new pre/power amp.

Want to thank you for this video. My Klipsch ProMedia just went out a month ago, and didnt really want to go spend another 120 when i was certain the speakers were all still in good shape. 40 bucks later and i have my system wired up to the XY-S100H and working again. I gutted my sub and just ran the speaker wire through the old power adapter hole and then sealed any remaining screw holes with hotglue. The whole system now sounds better as a whole with the ability to fine adjust the sub frequency and treble/bass to speakers. Thanks again for the idea and quick walk through!

The left channel for My Promedia speakers that I got in 2012 had very low volume compared to the other one. It was almost useless.
I knew for a long time that speakers I had were good as I tested them by switching the channel. So the issue had to be with the internal pre amp circuit.
I finally ordered the amplifier module suggested in the video and was able to restore the sound. It was super straight forward. Thanks for your guide. Bonus: The amp module has bluetooth, so I see it as a minor upgrade as mine were without bluetooth.
Thanks for your detailed walk through

Amazing. Going to test this out when the stuff comes in. I've only had my system for 2 years, so having one of my speakers out had me concerned. Thanks for the info!
Edit: Stuff came in yesterday; internals of the subwoofer were arranged differently making it a little harder for me to make the conversion. It took no more than 30mins total for someone like me who's unexperienced. Got it done using the XY-S100H (power amp board that a previous commentor suggested) all works well so far. I will update if anything arises.

You have the original 6-pin connector. So do I, my right channel was noticeably quieter than my left. Klipsch no longer sells the 6-pin control pod. I’ve tried 2 aftermarket control pods. Neither solved my right channel problem.
Now I’m looking into other solutions. I could buy another system but troubleshooting is fun.
Thanks for this video. It was helpful.

Our Klipsch pro media 2.1 system lost its mains and only the sub worked. Then shortly after, the sub went out as well. Headphones still worked.
It turned out is was a capacitor. It's probably the same for everyone else, too.
Search around and you'll find the solution. It's a 25uf 50V capacitor. Swap it out and you'll be back in business for under 2 bucks and a bit of soldering work.

Hi, Lucas. Thanks for posting this video. My vintage ProMedia 2.1 finally stopped working after about 12 years of great sound. I'd like to restore it. Your video is helpful, but it leaves me with some questions.
First step is straight forward--unscrew and remove the panel on the back of the sub.
    1) The power supply is the bulky box-like structure with some sort of copper wire winding and apparently converts 120V AC to 24V DC, right?
It should be easy to remove. It will be replaced by the new power supply that serves the same function--converting 120V AC to 24V DC.
    2) The original subwoofer has a DIN connector that receives a cable from the module on the bottom of the right speaker. This will be bypassed after hooking up the new amplifier, right?
    3) The ProMedia satellite speakers and subwoofer are wired directly to the new amplifier, right?
    4) You leave the other circuit boards in place with their wiring connections, right?
    5) The speaker terminal is not used, right? It should be left in place because of the insulation it provides.
Perhaps it would be helpful if you add a video of showing the panel after you've modified it before reinstalling it in the subwoofer box.
    Thanks,
    Ken

    • @LucasLeCompteMusic
      @LucasLeCompteMusic  Рік тому +2

      1) Yes. Its not bad to take out, just have to undo some screws off the back plate of the sub.
      2) The DIN will just hang lose and not be used at all.
      3) Yep! On mines sub and both speakers go right to the back of the amp.
      4) I pulled a lot of what was in the sub out to make room. The new amp is what is driving everything so the old stuff is not needed.
      5) Yes. I didnt mess with that on the back of the sub. Just left it alone.

@@LucasLeCompteMusic: Sorry to come back, but I've followed your suggestions carefully and still have no sound from the satellites or subwoofer.
The original power supply has a five wire connector that runs to the main circuit board. Isn't this connection vital to the function of the unit?
I think the satellites need power as evidenced by the green light on the right speaker. On the original setup, the main circuit board gets power from the power supply and then feeds several smaller circuit boards. One of these has the DIN connector for the original satellites. How do I get power to the speakers after bypassing the DIN connector?
Perhaps instead of a supplemental video, you'd be able to take a photo that shows how everything connects inside the box once the new power supply and amp are installed.

Update after 8 months, I can confirm that this inexpensive replacement amp is vastly superior to the Klipsch amp.
The best part. It doesn't have any annoying auto-power off which causes my monitor's HDMI signal to flicker due to interference.
And if it breaks again, it is cheap to replace.
The only drawback is that removing the massive transformer from the subwoofer would cause it to resonate (rattle) when playing bass-heavy audio. I'd probably put some mass back in it soon. I would love a plastic case for it as well, but I guess 3d printing can solve that.

Cool and helpful! I think I first learned about this fix from the place you probably did: an Amazon review that points to exactly these two products. (I can send you the link, if you wish.)
I've never done anything like this before, and your video is helpful in giving me the confidence to go ahead with it. I do still have a couple of follow up questions, if you care to address them:
    1) Do you think it's safe? Someone mentioned there is no on-off switch, just standby. Do you just leave it on in standby all the time? They also mention sparks when they unplug. Is that something you've experienced?
    2) There are a number of products that look 100% identical to this amp... do you think they are all of the same quality? As I live in Canada, I'm planning to buy the FOSI branded one as it's a better deal.
    3) Do you think it would sound as good with an old 19V laptop power supply, which some people use? If you have one laying around, a comparison would be nice! Also, there are more versatile power supplies that can do multiple voltages and have multiple connectors. Do you think they would work well, or would they be more prone to interference?
Many thanks and have a great day!

Just a heads-up that you or others may find interesting. I stumbled upon another similarly-priced 2.1 amp (based upon the same chip) that has several additional features: an on/off switch, USB input, and an app for EQ and Bluetooth password setting. If you search for XY-S100H you'll find it. While those extra features are nice, I'm wondering if it handles the sub frequency adjustment any better than the one used in your video. (Apparently, the frequency knob doesn't transfer higher frequencies from the sub to the speakers; it just cuts out those frequencies.). Hopefully someone well get around to reviewing it as thoroughly as you did the Damgoo!

I just retested the wires on the outside and they all seem fine. I wonder if this would work for me to address the power issue, or if I should just replace the whole speaker system?
