Iron Rattler Review, Six Flags Fiesta Texas RMC Hybrid Coaster | Best Ride in Texas?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 гру 2024
- Iron Rattler is the signature attraction at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. This Rocky Mountain Construction hybrid coaster has a unique setting on the quarry wall. People agree it has great drops, but many argue it has poor pacing. But does it actually have bad pacing?
Iron Rattler opened in 2013 as the second Iron Horse conversion after New Texas Giant. This roller coaster replaced the old Rattler, a rough RCCA wood coaster that opened in 1992 as the world's tallest and fastest wood coaster.

Got the chance to ride IR 25 times in 2 days late January, I just couldn’t get enough of it. I absolutely love it, out of the 7 RMC’s I’ve ridden it’s #2 for me. Great video and great breakdown of the ride!
Thanks, glad you got so many rides on it!
The western background music is perfect 🔥 I love it!!! 😍
Thanks!
This ride is world class. It seems people only ever talk about the first drop, the heaven roll, the quarry dive and the tunnel. But the other elements are all great. It's just that those four star elements are so good that nothing compares. And the quarry dive is a real contender for best airtime moment of all time (in the back of course.)
I prefer the first drop to the quarry drop, but both are excellent.
Iron Rattler is my favorite coaster and I love to see the next coaster in Six Flags Fiesta Texas soon!
I love that park as a whole.
Nice job with the music in the background, it was giving me steve vibes and it was a nice touch while u were speaking. And I think ur review makes me want to ride this coaster even more.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Rode it several times this week. It was fantastic, one of the best RMC's. I love the setting and the layout, too. There was nothing boring about it...especially in that back seat. It was 2x as good in the back. Perfect pacing in my view, I just wish it was longer.
Me too!
I had the pleasure of riding this when it was The Rattler and later the The Iron Rattler. I sat in the front row just to see the signature first drop and quarry drop with no obstructions. Riding experience is like night and day. It's now my favorite coaster : )
It gets better with each ride.
This is my hometown park. My first ever roller coaster was the road runner as a kid. I was on a field trip in middle school and I didn’t know the next roller coaster I should get on, my friends convinced me to get on the iron rattler and they said that it was an easy ride. I was not ready for the iron rattler but this roller coaster has made me love roller coasters and getting out of my comfort zone ❤️
Nice!
I rode this thing for the first time in October and it exceeded my expectations, which were pretty high! I agree with your points on how the pacing on top of the quarry wall is not anywhere as slow as some people say and especially at night when the ride is flying. I also think that it gives great sustained air because of that. Great review for this awesome coaster!
Even when the ride is flying, the top section still isn't fast. But that doesn't bother me since the elements still deliver.
I echo everything you said, including all you said about the pacing. Perfect review! The setting really puts this over the top. That first hill after the inversion was giving extremely strong airtime last weekend, one of the strongest moments I've felt on any coaster. If not for my shocking first ride on Iron Rattler in 2016 (when I thought it was still the horrible old Rattler even as that ride began), I wouldn't have developed such an interest in coasters and parks. I don't know if I will see it as my favorite again, but it's the most significant to me personally.
Was it your first RMC? I think everyone's first RMC has a good chance to become their favorite coaster. It happened for me after I rode Wicked Cyclone.
@@CanobieCoaster I had actually rode New Texas Giant a few weeks prior. I had still never heard of RMC or knew anything of the concept. I had heard that NTG was smoother and better than before, so it didn't shock me that it was good. It also didn't impress me nearly as much as Iron Rattler, nor did it give me any thought that they might have also smoothed out Rattler. I didn't even notice the "Iron" when I walked up for that first ride, so I was expecting the same brutal ride as I had in 2008.
@@OklahomaCoasterFan New Texas Giant beats Iron Rattler in length, but I'll take Iron Rattler in every other way.
Although I only have ridden this 2 times back in 2019, this is a phenomenal RollerCoaster.
Out of the 3 RMC's I’ve ridden this is my list:
1. Texas Giant
2. This (Iron Rattler)
3. Twisted Cyclone.
I easily prefer Iron Rattler to the other 2 you've ridden, but New Texas Giant is definitely the longest ride of the 3.
@@CanobieCoaster That’s cool! Although I like Texas Giant for than Iron Rattler and Twisted Cyclone, all of them are still really good rides!
Great review! Iron Rattler is on my mount rushmore of best drops on a roller coaster. I agree it is a must ride in the back row. I also agree it is the best ride in Texas. I feel the pacing is better on some of my rides than others on it.
I agree! This one does run sluggish first thing, but I rarely experience it like that since I usually go to Wonder Woman first.
I agree on it being the best ride in Texas. It is better than Texas Giant, better than Superman Crypton coaster, better than steel eel, the only other coaster I could think of that people could consider the best rides are Wonder Woman golden lasso coaster or ig MrFreeze. But tbh there is not much competition for this.
@@Mark-ie1go Boardwalk Bullet was riding fantastic in 2020 as well, but I still couldn't put it ahead of the two RMCs at Fiesta.
Why Did That Thumbnail.Make Me Laugh So Hard "This Ride Has Good .Pacing"
Because people say the ride has pacing issues with the quarry. Yes it's slow, but the elements are great.
I Agree But Still It Made Me Laugh
I wish I could go to more parks right now. Great review by the way.
Thanks!
I agree. Pacing does not have to be when a ride is fast. I’ve not ridden this coaster but I’ve done BGCE, and I agree with you that the stall might be the best inversion ever. It wouldn’t be the same if it took it faster. As long as I get a forceful ride experience, I’m happy!
That stall is epic.
@@CanobieCoaster and the top hat!
I'm riding this in June. It's my most anticipated coaster in texas
Hope you enjoy it!
Rode IR twice yesterday, and of course in the back row (As You Should with All RMCs), first during opening then night ride during park closing.
It seemed like this ride has aged well, glossy smooth, excellent drop and beautiful scenery.
It seemed though that during the night ride, the pacing was a little quicker when a top the quarry, the elements came quick and that final quarry drop in to the tunnel gave you superb ejector. It is my #1 in Fiesta Texas followed by Wonder Woman and Dr Diabolical Cliffhanger
I love riding this at night.
Fantastic ride! I just got back from a trip there. First drop is awesome but my favorite is the 3rd drop. Hang time in the back rows over that drop is insane. I hotlapped it 10 times in a few hours
Nice!
My first rides on IRat in 2018 were very good, but my recent rides last month took my breath away. The airtime was ridiculous and even the quarry section felt like it was hauling faster than normal. This probably is the best ride and Texas, and this is a state with lots of fantastic coasters.
I thought the sped up chain was due to covid, but the fact it's a permanent change is great.
@@CanobieCoaster Before my first recent ride, I had heard rumblings that the lift no longer slowed down. But it didn't really hit me until I was darn near catapulted out of my last row seat on that first drop!
i think the clifftop segment that everyone criticizes actually adds to the ride experience bc in my mind acts as a buildup to the best moment of the ride and that's the final dive off the quarry wall. the pacing isnt like s tier like the other rmc in fiesta texas but i dont think the slow part is as bad as people accuse it of being, although i did ride it while it was 102 degrees and like at the end of the day so maybe it was running abnormally fast
I don't mind the lack of speed since the elements are still good.
I had the chance to visit Fiesta Texas for my first ever visit last year and Iron Rattler quickly became my favorite in the park and favorite RMC I've ridden out of the other 4 I've been on: Wonder Woman, Twisted Timbers, Twisted Cyclone, and Twisted Colossus.
I agree it's the park's best ride, but Wonder Woman is certainly no slouch.
I've stated before how this ride was still under construction when I was there in 2013. This coaster alone is my reason for why I believe all parks should have their new attractions open by the time the season begins that way everybody can experience it and doesn't have to miss out on it. Even Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City opened around the time I was at this park.
Fiesta Texas wasn't year-round back then, correct? Six Flags is notorious for not opening things until Memorial Day or after unfortunately.
I agree with you on the pacing, some elements are meant to be taken slower, I mean look at dive coasters’s Immelmanns, they are slow but its intended for hang time. I think Irat has good enough pacing, I’ll be heading out to ride it on spring break, then my opinions will be solidified.
I think it comes down to how one defines pacing since I know speed is important for many.
I don’t know if it was the same for everyone, but since I rode it in November during the night there was a strong breeze that made the ride even more enjoyable, I love the structure, speed and overall the whole thing! Definitely my Favorite coaster ever 🐍⚙️
It's a fantastic night ride.
I'm glad you defined what you mean by it has "good" pacing. I agree it has exciting elements on top of the quarry, but it just loses speed up on top to provide much forces, at least from my experiences. Nevertheless, it's also my favorite coaster in Texas and a top 5 RMC for me, at least for now
Those 90 degree turns and bunny hills still deliver for me despite the speed loss.
Iron Rattler. I can't wait.
Maybe I can do this when I get to Texas.
It's amazing.
Just got off the ride and it’s no joke lol this ride is blackout material on those drops they can really take you by surprise. The quarry wall climb and drop is definitely the highlight but it’s the second large drop that comes out of nowhere and will really give you a punch in the face.
Those drops are nuts.
My favorite roller coaster as an adult and pretty sure it has replaced my all-time favorite, the Texas Cyclone, that I loved as a child at Astroworld back in the '70 and '80s.
This is a fantastic ride.
I’m hoping for a better second impression on this ride. The first one was plagued by roped-off rows, due to COVID restrictions. The weather was also unusually cold, even for December. The first and last drop off the quarry wall were good, but nothing in-between seemed noteworthy. Some tunnels, props, or wildflowers during the mid-section would probably add some character to an otherwise dull, barren piece of property. How about some cactuses?
Sounds like it was running slower than usual for you.
This coaster is the Millennium Force of RMCs: not the post forceful or thrilling, but it has a great setting, great first drop, and is just a ton of fun throughout.
That's an interesting comp.
Interesting. I actually think New Texas Giant is more similar to Millenium Force. Both are iconic, innovative, historically significant rides that were overhyped and overrated when they were new but are now a bit underrated by enthusiasts.
Good pacing for me is a combination of 3 things: how well the coaster maintains it’s speed throughout the layout, a great sensation of speed, and how quickly ur getting good elements. Iron rattler is definitely pretty good in the 3rd category, and since u said that’s what u define as pacing then yes it has good pacing according to ur standards, but iron rattler fails at my 1st and 2nd reqirments so that’s why I still think it has bad pacing imo
That's fair. If one and two are big components of pacing, you'll have a major issue with Iron Rattler's top section. The sections at the bottom of the quarry feel crazy fast though.
This is definitely on my bucket list for how unique it looks.
The only problem I could see having with this ride is that half of the elements look elite/great but the other elements look kind of underwhelming compared to the best elements.
Also a slight nitpick is that it doesn't haul through the layout like other top tier rides. But other than that, this ride looks amazing
While some of the elements atop the quarry aren't as good as the others, they're still great. It's just the first drop, quarry drop, and barrel roll are three of the best elements anywhere.
Iron Rattler is a very good RMC. I do enjoy the quarry drops and the tunnel. I like the lead car on the trains.
It's an excellent RMC.
Definitely looks like a great RMC with a fantastic first drop, some fantastic ejector airtime, a great setting with the corey, ext. Would you say it's better than Outlaw Run and would you consider it a mid tear or elite RMC?
It's a coin flip, but I'd go with Outlaw Run since it beats Iron Rattler in the pacing department.
I was so sad that this coaster was closed during my visit to fiesta. Someday I’ll get back and re ride it
That's unfortunate.
Last time I went to SFFT, I was planning on doing the Iron Rattler. But first I did the Wonder Woman coaster.... I found it grueling and fatiguing, so much so that I wasn't up to moving on to Iron Rattler. But I'll get to it next time.
Iron Rattler is more rerideable.
I’ve been riding this thing since it opened and by far 2020 gave the best rides I’ve ever gotten on it
I agree!
4:45 that dude wearing a Dolph Ziggler t shirt 😂 😂
Lol
The gerstlauer trains on iron rattler and new Texas giant have two seats on each row, so I was asking you about the shin guards?
The outside side of the bars have shin guards. So those on the right have a shin bar only on the right.
Was supposed to ride for my first time this weekend, but the weather ruined that lol. Looking to going in a few weeks instead! Out of my current credits, it wouldn't be a longshot for iRat to become my new #1
I heard it got quite cold over the weekend in San Antonio.
@@CanobieCoaster Sorry, should have clarified this upcoming weekend. It's supposed to be highs of low 40's, and snow on President's Day
Yeah the weather in Texas around sfot, sffs, and Sea world is all snowy and cold, can’t open any of the parks. I was gonna go to sfot this weekend but the weather ruined it for me too.
I rode Iron Rattler after hearing many enthusiats' opinions on the ride and was struck by 3 things:
-The pacing issues are grossly overstated.
-The quarry dive airtime hill is overhyped.
-The first drop is probably the single best coaster element in Texas.
I've only been an enthusiast since late summer of 2019 (catastrophically bad timing, lol), and I've only been able to experience the Texas RMCs, so New Texas Giant is my main point of reference/comparison. While Iron rattler's first drop blew me away (I got at least 3 seconds of standing ejector the one time I wasn't stapled), I was a bit underwhelmed by the quarry dive. It really reminded me of the airtime hill underneath NTG's lift hill, albeit slightly stronger and more sustained. I was really expecting more, considering how revered that element is by so many.
I'm decidedly in the minority in that, if New Texas Giant runs at its full potential, I prefer it to Iron Rattler. However, since IRat seems to give great rides with more consistency, I might rank it higher on some days.
The quarry dive reminds me of a standard RMC first drop. That's not a bad thing getting that so late in the ride in my opinion.
New Texas Giant is the one that I have bigger issues with the pacing on that return run. It's still a great ride though and it's incredible that was the prototype RMC.
Does this exceptional rollercoaster have more intense airtime on the drops than the New Texas Giant at Over Texas or is it just the inversions and the setting that make it better?
I think the airtime is better.
this ride was closed when i went... super sad
Imagine
Was it for a refurb or broken?
@@CanobieCoaster i think they were doing maintenance on it but i’m not sure cuz it was only down the 3 days i was there and apparently it opened back up the day after i left
@@dead_fish243 That's rotten luck.
Does the trains on new Texas giant and iron rattler have shin guards?
Yes on the outside.
I’m so desperate to ride this rollercoaster given the EXTREMELY POWERFUL AIRTIME and Great Inversions and the quarry wall and the 70 mph speeds it has everything I could possibly want. No wonder it’s one of the top rollercoasters in the world.
It's the full package.
I have feeling people who say it has bad pacing havent rode it and only watched POVs. It's alot faster in person up on the quarry wall. Youre hauling acually, well, feels like it at least. Though i only rode in 2020 so maybe chain lift speed change is reason. So pissed I only got 1 ride on it. Only got 2 on Wonder woman. No Superman that day. Was windy
Consider it lucky you even got on Iron Rattler if it was windy since I know that one can close for winds.
@@CanobieCoaster Yeah, the day worked out perfect really. If I would have stayed for a 2nd ride on it I wouldn't have made the last train sent on Wonderwoman for the day and got to ride that. That hurrying up made me lose my hat though (they wouldn't go into the grass, not inside security fence for ride, just outside the queue railing in grass, a-holes) haha ETC. Yeah that park has some issues with winds. They should really plant some trees along the quarry wall or something. At least from most common wind direction or something. I still really enjoyed the park. Really pretty park and I dug their pirates shoot em up dark ride. Arrow mine train was dope too
I guess I’m not the only one who doesn’t really see a issue with pacing on iron rattler
People seem divided on that.
@@CanobieCoaster yeah
Yes on the outside, what means?
The outside seats
Best coaster at feasta Texas for sure
Agreed!
This was converted from the old Rattler, what did you hear about Rattler in its opening year and over the years?
I heard it was crazy in its opening year, but the ride was considered very rough.
I think this might be the best coaster in texas
Sure is!
I have never ridden Iron Rattler but it's hard to envision a drop better than Skyrush's
Skyrush's is more violent, but I prefer this one.
Thisride is awesome
Sure is
Make fav coaster at my home park!!
Nice!
I would love to ride this
It doesn't disappoint.
contraversial opinion but I think Titan at SFOT is the best ride in texas (that i have been on) The ride gets so much hate about things that aren't true except the mid course, theming, and lack of inversions. The ride has airtime. it's intense, and overall a great ride and everybody really just hates it because it was made by Giovanola and not B&M
That ride has great positive Gs, but I prefer airtime based rides.
I really wish this ride had maintained the final helix. Obviously I never expect RMC to follow the original layout exactly as their removal of the slow helix above the quarry wall was nothing but beneficial to the ride experience. However, given the speed you currently enter the brake run at, I think they definitely could have done something with the footers from that original final helix. It's like Six Flags ran out of money rather than RMC not wanting to include anything after the tunnel. But this might be the only ride to end with a 90-ft drop. Talk about wasted potential. As it stands the only issue with Iron Rattler is its rather short length.
While I definitely would have loved the finale be longer, Iron Rattler feels complete to me.
I'm so happy that Rattler got the conversion. If I'm being honest, the original Rattler looks like the single worst roller coaster of all time
The original first drop looked crazy, but the rest of the ride looked bad.
Yes, the original Rattler was even worse than Firebird.
@@OklahomaCoasterFan what's funny is that I found firebird very smooth and pretty fun
This and Shock Wave are my favorite Texas rides. The only drawback is those awful restraints.
You don't like the restraints on Iron Rattler? I like them.
@@CanobieCoaster anyone over 200lbs generally has issues. Being larger, I prefer new rmc restraints, new and old intamin lap bars, b&m clamshells and vests, and the new Mack lap bars. It's tough when you feel like your legs are being pinched during an ejector moment.
@@Uncle_Nate That's fair, especially since Fiesta Texas does tend to staple on Iron Rattler.
I wish I rode it more than once but the line was 2 hours.
It's definitely popular.
Nice vid
Thanks!
Iron rattlers first drop felt like the track broke off
It's wild.
I hear Wild West by ZitronSound.
Yes
This has been my home park since day 1, the og rattler no debate was better, just because it was insanely rough is the reason people didn’t like it, the iron rattler honestly is great but the length is a complete joke it just left the blueprint of the area looking watered down
If Iron Rattler had a few more elements after the quarry drop, it would be even higher on my list.
@@CanobieCoaster what does it rank rn on your list
My first RMC and man was I blown away. Out of the 5 RMC's I've been lucky enough to ride it sits at #2 behind Steel Vengeance. That drop off the quarry wall before the tunnel in the back row feels like it'll eject you into the parking lot.
I still feel like the first drop is the crazier drop of the two.
@@CanobieCoaster Oh I agree, it’s my favorite drop I’ve experienced.
I just don't understand how Shawn from theme park worldwide hates this coaster and is one of his worst if not his worst RMC.
If I remember correctly, he only got one ride up front at the start of the day. I think this ride is significantly better in back and I know it can run slow first thing.
@@CanobieCoaster He didn't think much of Lightning Rod either. He rode that in both rows and made a point of it. I dunno, I think he shouldn't have been so harsh on Rattler without riding it in back also and after it had warmed up. That's a bit uncool, but he's generally a great guy so it's just a brain fart I think. 🤣
They need more trains because the line is very long because it very nice ride so thats why they need it more train
It can only run 2 at a time.
Ik that but they should make it better so it can run more Trains
Ride is good but honestly I disliked the park. I used to live in SA and went to Fiesta Texas every Saturday, the trashcans are only cleaned like one a day so there is often the smell of puke floating around the park. Guests are also typically assholes, one dude on Iron Rattler was told by staff to remove his hat and he made a fuss about it for like 10 minutes while everyone was sitting in the hot coaster in the Texas July heat with no air conditioning, holding up the line. He finally agreed to remove his hat, then once the coaster started, he put it back on.
I really enjoyed the Poltergeist more honestly, not many people line up to ride that so lines are shorter, unlike Iron Rattler line which is typically very long and very exhausting to wait in as there are only a couple of fans providing slightly less warm air.
I've had much different experiences at Fiesta Texas with the staff and guests. I agree Poltergeist usually has shorter lines.
anybody else laughing at the captions which don't match the video narration?
I never watch them, but I can only imagine what the autogenerated ones come up with.
@@CanobieCoaster yeah, well these were talking about some sort of teleportation device, "I cannot be solved the aspects specifying", and something about "the strange naita shinema peralta".
@@andrewthummel3767 Wow that's way off haha.
@@CanobieCoaster lol I love autocaptions cuz I think they're funny
Yeah they aren’t in English yet they are just spewing random English words. Sometimes videos have Vietnamese captions when the video is in English, kinda annoying lol
i'm a coaster ebnthusiast
Me too.
The coaster community is full of people who would set their pacemakers to 300/min because faster is better :/
Sometimes slowing down a bit is better for a ride in specific cases.
“Good” pacing. Yeah sure, I love crawling at the top of the quarry wall and messing up my ribs
Pacing to me can mean how quickly a ride throws great elements at you. While it may not have much speed atop the quarry wall, the elements up there deliver for me.
@@CanobieCoaster thinking back on it, I rode it on a gloomy wet day in February, so we were CRAWLING atop of the wall
