Im just saying MS aquires ABK(COD) and Sony shuts off major game sequels for a year.
Thats not a good sign.
I don't think it has anything to do with abk, because I believe it's just the fact that they had all those gas games in development and weren't working on any real aaa first party Sony "bangers" right on up until December of 2023.

@@yofolkdem1256 Good chunk. Thats one of the main reasons they fired Jim Ryan outside of the ABK deal not getting blocked. Huge amount of PlayStation resources went to GAAS development and I think it was a huge crutch or thing they were hoping to lean on this year and the years to come.

What games does Xbox have? Im genuinely curious. Out of the past decade of announcements only maybe 2 games have been worth the wait or hype, one of which wasn't even a wait or hype buildup. I miss the old Xbox that had competent leadership that made smart decisions and delivered great games consistently.

They have this meeting every freaking year. What is wrong with you people? This is totally different from the Xbox business meeting. They have the Playstation meeting on the 30th. They already outlined that well ahead of time
I think the concern is they haven’t announced a showcase yet, their investor call and last years figures shows a massive decline in profit margin due to rising costs sie isn’t even their biggest business anymore , in the investor call they spoke mainly about anime and and production technology, they even announced selling more merch for games to improve margins, their profit margin right now is the lowest it’s been in 10 years , their share price has tanked, the ceo also said they are going to have to reduce the amount of games they produce and focus on live service and only guaranteed success titles, so that means going forward your gonna get live service and maybe at best 1/2 first party games and that’s at best until the market improves, they’ve also missed their sales targets , lost any cod exclusivity , and Stella blade , ff7, ff16 all never made their targets , even helldivers has about 20k players right now so they’ve screwed the pooch there as well, all of that being said Sony is still profitable but it’s not all a bed of roses over there, whilst I don’t think anything seriously bad is happening at Sony their games rnt selling like they used to and they are gonna push pc and live service all are things their fan base don’t want
@icecoldcabbage4329 that's not quite true. They had very healthy profit margins this quarter, and they forecast a 10% increase for the next. Of course they will talk about other parts of Sony because they want to grow the other parts the same way as playstation. I don't see how people can't see that Sony is out to control all of entertainment. As far as their funding of projects, you will get a complete breakdown of what percentage of projects are being invested in. All of that comes on the 30th. Playstation and Nintendo are the only platform publishers that give you this much insight into their entire business
@@TheDarkdemonking the annual profit margin of fiscal year 2023/24 was 9,3% (Playstation). That's better than the results of Q3 and Q4 but far from "very healthy".

Tech finance guy here. Here are my takeaways from the conference yesterday, and, yes, I think gaming pundits are missing just how big a statement they just made about their future.
1. No consoles. No future console generations were mentioned. I’m reading this as a clear signal that Sony is ultimately finished with consoles at some point. We saw from their recent financial disclosure that they still lose money with each and every marginal PS5, not just now, but forecast next year. I’m not saying that this means there won’t be a PS6. There might be, but it’s far from certain, and, if there is, it will be the last. Their vision is playing Sony content everywhere. Yes, PlayStation will still be thing, but it’s no longer an under tv plastic box.
2. PSN is everything. They’re going to sell movies, anime, games, whatever through a PSN available on every single device imaginable. All the Sony content divisions are getting rolled together into a unified media and content vertical.
3. All sorts of cost cutting. Game production is moving to India, where you can get 5 devs for the price of 1 in the US. AI will replace people like you’ve never seen. This means big time job cuts and studio closings from their traditional line up.
4. Anime and Sports. Expect lots of anime games and new sports games. Crunchyroll for the win. Will they try to buy EA? Or try to challenge them competitively?
5. Every gaming IP will be leveraged in movies, music, anime, etc
6. Lots of new devices coming to play games on. Games on TVs, games on PCs, games on a future PlayStation AR/VR platform, games on a new handheld, games on mobile. Just no under tv consoles.
This show was a transformative longterm vision (5-10 yr), and, personally, as a tech person, I’m kind of excited. But we should be under no Illusions, this is going to be incredibly painful for current SIE employees, even as they will keep churning out PlayStation games and related content in spades AND, yea, the under TV console is done for. PS5/pro fine. PS6 maybe and it’ll be awful if they do, because it will not longer be their focus to other PlayStation devices, PS7 nope. And, yes, exclusives probably won’t be a thing for them in the future.
I do take issue with the panel’s statement that the console is their big profit driver. It absolutely isn’t, and this was very clear in their recent annual financial disclosure. There’s no growth over the previous generation. Each PS5 they sell is still losing money for them, and they expect marginal PS5s over the following year’s forecast to lose them even more money. PS5s are NOT a profit driver for Sony. Revenue doesn’t matter for a mature industry. Only profits do. And that’s why they didn’t talk about them at the event. Games yes, future devices yes, but not under tv consoles.

You guys put more heat to a successful business/platform than you do towards a barely functional directionless platform that you support or claim to love, Xbox. I never heard the frustration in your voices when talking about Microsoft and Xboxs failures over the past decade. You guys seem to care more about what PlayStation is or isn't doing and holding PlayStations feet to the fire than you do the idiots running Xbox.... Huh? They will have Concord, Until Dawn Remake, Silent Hill 2 remake, the next Asobi Studio game possibly...before the end of 2024...plus two to three Xbox ports on top of them (Gears of War Collection, Starfield...?). PS studios have the luxury to take their time because Sony knows how to manage its portfolio.
