I dove with Martin many times in Cozumel around 15 years ago and never had a bad dive with him. Glad to hear that they are still going strong. I purchased the dive housing for the Hero2 and tried using it in Barbados last week. To my dismay, the latch popped open one minute into my time in the water and the camera no longer works since salt water got into it. I am now debating on the Hero3+ Black or waiting a few months til the Hero4 is released. Great video and I cannot wait to dive with my replacement camera after watching this video.
Thanks so much. GoPro is pretty good about giving a discount coupon on your next GoPro if you flood yours. I would email them and see if they can help.
awesome. i've visited Cozumel twice, the first time in '89, and it's by far my favorite place to dive. this brings back lots of good memories. i'm hoping to go back one day soon with my son.
THANK YOU for the AWESOMELY BEAUTIFUL footage. The music and video are OUTSTANDING! SO GREATLY ENJOYED every second of it. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SHARING.
Just learning to dive at the ripe old age of 51 (wish i'd done it years ago) and cozumel is definitely on my to do list probably in 2018. Got trips to greece and cuba first and hoping to get enough experience to do my advanced in mexico. Absolutely stunning film. Thanks
Thanks Mike... enjoyed your video. The best places that I have found are Ningaloo Reef off Exmouth West Australia and Vanuatu. They have everything from Whale sharks to dugongs and colourful reefs seaming with fish. I enjoyed my underway experiences in Mexico and Belize.
You are welcome, maybe I will run into you next year. Make sure to book with Dive With Martin and ask for Mike. I might just be around. Remember everyone if you can breath then you can scuba dive. It takes no great skill and you don't need to be a athlete to do it. Even if you have never done scuba you can take a special introductory dive in shallow water with lots of wildlife to see. Then if you want you can get your certification right away :)
To anyone considering a dive, just do it. I logged about 5,000 hrs. over 17 yrs. diving from West Palm Beach to Key West, and it never got boring. When you dive open water like this you never know what you may see. And you'll never run out of stories to tell your friends!
Wow. Can't wait to see this in person. We have a carribean cruise booked and I'm signed up on a two tank scuba exclusion. Our first cruise took us to Cozumel and hands down this location has the most to see when you snorkel. I'm slowly getting the fam to try scuba diving. I actually got them booked on a casta maya discover scuba while we are down there. Just couldn't sacrifice roatan or Cozumel two tanks. :) I'd love to get them certified for a week long Cozumel trip. Baby steps though since one is paranoid after a snuba exclusion regulator that breathed hard for them.
Mike, Nice job post processing all your footage and adding the music. I dive the Playa del carmen / Cozumel area a few times a year and never get tired of it. It is a beautiful, accessible and affordable place to dive. A few questions for us wanna be underwater photographers. Can you tell us what type of lights you used? How many? Is the footage we are seeing actual speed, or did you slow it down a bit for more impact? Keep up the good work and dive safe.
Cozumel is so awesome!! Yes it's drift diving but not normally in a fast currant. Palancar deep has a short through cave that's cool. Lots of eels and lobster that will make you look for butter!! But!! Also barracuda!!! There is a awesome dive shop in the barracuda hotel. Very affordable. The best dive masters!!! I MISS MEXICO,!!
I am going scuba diving there next week from the carnival cruise! I am super excited but slightly nervous because I've never gone scuba diving in the ocean only springs!
Very nice video. Beautiful colors. I guess because you use lights. Correct? What lights do you use? How do you ensure they point same way as camera? Is camera mounted on your head?
We film soulful city walk through's with a gopro, so it's good to see someone filming underwater with it successfully, as we haven't tried this this yet. Thank you I've subscribed and look forward to more.
this is an awesome video!!! i found it while researching which gopro to buy for our cancun trip this june. how far in advance can we book our class with you?? thanks!
I've only been to Cozumel for one day, but I would,d love to stay their about two weeks. Roatan is the also a wonderful place to snorkel at Little French Kay.
Any problems at the airport carrying the equipment on. I am traveling with the camera, an SRP tray, arms and two Sola 2100's and would hate to have issues at the airport!
great video man. I'm going to Playa del Carmen next week. I will have only day of diving, should I do a bull shark/ocean/reef dive or go for one of the cenotes? thanks!
Hey Mike! I am going to Cozumel to dive in Jan. I was considering the Gopro hero black 3 with the back-scatter filter system. How much of this video has the lights running? I am wondering what depth you are at most of the time, but not sure if I can spend the extra coin on the lights. Nice vids by the way.
Cool vid, I also have hero 3+ looking at getting some lighting as like you have found you lose a lot of colours without. I used goevo and was considering a tray. Do you recommend buying kit that comes with lights?
Amazing video and even more amazing place :)) so excited to go here next year! Do you have any suggestions of where to stay, best beaches, and best things to do there? Thanks!
this is amazing footage i actually just bought the go pro black edition i was wondering if you could steer me into some key accessorizes that are needed as well as a external mic that could handle concerts and stuff thanks alot man
Thank you for sharing! That was beautiful.... I love the music along with the heavenly scenes. I have been diving in Cozumel and like you, simply had to get my certification. Now that I have it I would very much like to shore dive. Is there a good place to stay you can recommend in Cozumel for that? Of course I will boat dive also, but I want to shore dive and practice photography and video. Thanks, and if anyone else has good recommendations I would appreciate that also. An all inclusive would be ideal but I do not want to narrow it down so much there is no place lol!
Ron Really Thanks Ron. I am not to sure on this one but maybe the Park Royal parkroyal.mx/en/park-royal/cozumel or El Cid www.elcid.com/ceiba_beach/. Along that area there they have some places to go in. You might find a sea horse. not a lot of coral but good place to practice and is shallow.
Kimberly, the camera tray I use is from Snake River Prototyping and can double as a tripod on sandy bottom if the current is not strong. I do on occasion use a post production stabilization on certain shots to reduce shake but once i am back in the water for a day or two and I sort my buoyancy out. My videos come out with a lot less shake. There is definitely a learning curve though , you should see some of my earlier stuff lol.
So when do you know to flip down the filter? I have zero experience filming under water and know that they're necessary at depth, but when do you decide to swap between the two?
I leave the filter on all the time unless I am at surface. each filter you get will have a depth rating. 0-30ft I use the SWCY and below 30ft I use the CY filter. unless i use lights then I use the SWCY all the time.
you all probably dont care but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb lost the password. I love any assistance you can offer me
Very cool video. I have a request - in the future can you add a little text to the reefs where this was taken? We dive in Cozumel annually, and it will be nice know where this was taken. Strange how I feel I recognize the marine life.
Yes the place I dive with the equipment is included in the price. Most places charge extra for dive equipment. The only extras you may need to rent are a dive computer and a wetsuit. I have my own dive computer and i don't use a wetsuit
The reefs are almost completely back to their previous splendor from the Hurricane in 2005. I would love to do a Black Beard Cruise! Going to Bahamas in January to dive with the tigers and lemons of Tiger Beach!
I stay in a condo rental. But I have also stayed at the Iberostar 3 x stars and was great. I have heard good things about Park Royal and Hotel Cozumel is always a budget stay and close to the diving. A real nice place to stay is The Palace.
How deep are these dives? If you turned the lights off, would you be able to see only greens and yellows on the video? How about seeing color live, do you have to be in shallow water or use lights to see reds?
Sorry for the late reply. The footage is anywhere from 30' to 90' and to answer you honestly , no you would not see colour without filter, lights or both. Unless you have the time and patience to do post colour correction in a editing program afterwords.
Nice Video, I will be there on July, what video setting did you set on GoPro? I was thinking on Video + pics same time, but the video resolution will be 1080/24fps
I like 1080 or 2.7k and 30-60fps. 24fps is for cinimatic look and can be changed in post. Higher the fps the easier and better results to slow motion capture. 2.7k is good if you want to crop the footage a bit without loosing viewable resolution. I am using 2.7k and 30fps more and more. I like wide angle because you can get up close. The less water between you and your subject the better. Of course it kinda sucks when you see that shark and you can not get close and the shot looks like it is taken from so far away.
Yes a great dive, however GBR Australia has the most awesome reef and wild life I've ever seen. I've dove the world for the most part. If you have not been that would be your best dives ever. Dive with Tusa T6
***** I am glad you asked that question! It was only 4 years ago now and I already have over 500 dives and am cave certified. My first dive was with " Dive with Martin" and I was not certified. It was called a resort dive and is done on a shallow reef with your own Dive Master. Once I did this first dive I JUST had to get certified. I was on vacation for two weeks so I decided to take my certification right there and completed it in three days and have never looked back! The other option I would look at is doing The online Padi course and complete the practical portion with your dive company of choice which can be completed in as little as two days!
I just shot a GoPro video in Cozumel this last week, just curious, I am not an expert film producer. That being said, what is the advantage of filming in 30fps opposed to the 60fps? Maybe the Hero 2 does not have that capability, I am not sure, but wouldn't you want the highest frame rate possible? Thanks for your help, your video is spectacular! It was my first time diving Cozumel and I must have watched this video a dozen times before the trip! Happy diving.
You always wanna shoot in 30fps as shooting with less frames per second means that the camera gets more light into the lens (don't ask me how haha, but it's true) which in turn means that your video will be less noisy. Shooting in lower fps also means that shaking will be more evident as every shake will last twice as long in 30fps as opposed to 60fps. I'm no expert it that's my take on it.
justsomeawesome dude its actually not that expensive. I'd start with a discovery dive if you're not to sure if you want to take the full course. Don't let them talk you into scuba gear until you know if you're going to do a lot of diving. You can rent gear in the meantime. The shop I dive with offers divers free rentals.
Wonderful stuff! Great shots - I particularly liked the long tracking shot/close ups of the tortuga and the shot of the 2 filefish, going to the 'cuda. A couple of questions: How did you get 16+ minutes to upload to YT? I've been restricted to 10-ish. And do you think the dual Sola 2000s are worth the investment? Would you buy them again for GoPro? Again, well done!!!
I'm pretty warm blooded being from the rocky mountains of Canada, lol, and i have a bit of a built in wetsuit as i have some built in insulation ;) But yeah, I find it comfortable enough without a wetsuit.
I dove with Martin many times in Cozumel around 15 years ago and never had a bad dive with him. Glad to hear that they are still going strong. To my dismay, the latch popped open one minute into my time in the water and the camera no longer works since salt water got into it. Great video and I cannot wait to dive with my replacement camera after watching this video.
Thanks so much. GoPro is pretty good about giving a discount coupon on your next GoPro if you flood yours. I would email them and see if they can help.
My first and only time diving (single tank) was in Cozumel. The experience was like heaven under water. Great video! Thank you.
It is like heaven, thank you for your comment!
awesome. i've visited Cozumel twice, the first time in '89, and it's by far my favorite place to dive. this brings back lots of good memories. i'm hoping to go back one day soon with my son.
Thank you all who have left a comment. You are helping me get more and more views by leaving your comments :).
Mike Gerrie ok
THANK YOU for the AWESOMELY BEAUTIFUL footage. The music and video are OUTSTANDING! SO GREATLY ENJOYED every second of it. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SHARING.
You're very welcome, I often have my coffee to this video and enjoy the music as well!

Cheers Mike... i've witness this beauty first hand and i am always amazed at how peaceful the experience can make you feel.
That's beautiful. This is #1 of the things i want to do and can't wait for next year, God willing. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Really enjoyed the footage swimming along side the turtle. Well done.
Thank you for posting this! Very pretty. The water in Cozumel is truly amazing.
The first song made me think of Ocean's 13 immediately!!
My first dive was with Martin too. They were awesome!
Wow. Can't wait to see this in person. We have a carribean cruise booked and I'm signed up on a two tank scuba exclusion. Love your Video!! How I love the ocean such a beautiful place!! Cant wait till we go back to Cozumel JUNE 16 2014 !!
Dang I will just miss you I am leaving at the start of June.
Deep dive, deep colors and deep adventures. Very nice video.
Thank you ebazyli :)
Cancun always allow a nice dive. The warm and crystalline water is amazing.
I got to the Cancun area in the summer to snorkle with whale sharks and manta rays!!
Looking to get back to Cozumel soon. It’s world class. Nice video
Thanks hope you enjoy your stay!
I am going scuba diving there next week from the carnival cruise! I am super excited but slightly nervous because I've never gone scuba diving in the ocean only springs!
You'll love it, open water diving in the Gulf of Mexico is the best.
brittney r I missed the message. Did you go diving. The Dive with Martin scuba shop is right at the Carnival Docks :)
About to go on my first dive trip in Cozumel and loving ur video! Music is great by the way!
Thank you Mimi :)
This is a beautiful part of the world and your video is fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
You are very welcome !! Thank you for the comment!
Beautiful work Mike. I enjoyed every moment of your adventure.
beautiful. i myself have advanced open water certification. only done a couple of dives in the canarie islands though. this look totaly beautiful.
Dark Silver I would love to dive the Canary Islands someday :)
Very nice video. Beautiful colors. I guess because you use lights. Correct? What lights do you use? How do you ensure they point same way as camera? Is camera mounted on your head?

Thats great I will check out your channel!
Very nice...I just got back from Cozumel. I need to get one of those video cams for my dives. Thanks for uploading your video.
Thanks for the comment Richard :)
I went to Cozumel on a cruise last year. Amazing and beautiful.
Great Video Mike! excelent memories from diving down there, thanks
Thanks my friend!!
Cozumel is wonderful! I miss it very much!
Oh wow that Looks Amazing!! Going there this summer!!
Marc De Smet the camera is on a tray that I hold and the lights are on a arm on each side that I can bend a swivel in any direction.
Most beautiful video in the world 😍👍🏽 amazing footage!!!
Thank you very much!
this place is defintely on my bucket list!
excelente video ! Me encantaría bucear allí. He nadado en Cancún y vimos muchos peces y algunas barracudas .
Looks so beautiful !! It’s on the list
Yes it is, I hope you come one day!
Mike Gerrie I will soon !!
I was in cozumel diving is the best experience in my life the water is so clear and transparent incredible.
I know right!! It is amazing!
I live right across cozumel, Playa Del Carmen. The beaches there are very nice there to.
At what distance do the 2000s have no effect on lighting? Great video. I dive Cozumel every year and can't wait to get back in the water. Thanks!
+Mike Gerrie Why don't you use a filter? It improves the colors... Look for SWCY, CY and GR filters.
this is an awesome video!!! i found it while researching which gopro to buy for our cancun trip this june. how far in advance can we book our class with you?? thanks!
is it just the colour or are the reefs not in tip top condition? The swim through looks better though...was this on the Cedral or Caracolillo dive?
Great video, thumbs up from us and cheers from sunny IGY Simpson Bay Marina, Sint Maarten in the Caribbean.
Oh boy would love to dive St. Maarten one day!!!
The most beautiful garden I have ever seen !!!
I've only been to Cozumel for one day, but I would,d love to stay their about two weeks. Roatan is the also a wonderful place to snorkel at Little French Kay.
Thank you, my first love was snorkeling and I just recently got my freedive certification. Would love to snorkel Roatan. maybe this year!
Beautiful and nice video!
great video indeed... and it match perfectly with the music... looking at your video just make me wanna go dive there..
Any problems at the airport carrying the equipment on. I am traveling with the camera, an SRP tray, arms and two Sola 2100's and would hate to have issues at the airport!
No problems at all with this stuff in my carry on.
great video man. I'm going to Playa del Carmen next week. I will have only day of diving, should I do a bull shark/ocean/reef dive or go for one of the cenotes? thanks!
Did you get a chance to dive with the bulls and do some cenote dives?
Hey Mike! I am going to Cozumel to dive in Jan. I was considering the Gopro hero black 3 with the back-scatter filter system. How much of this video has the lights running? I really love my Sola 2100's and the Snake River Prototyping tray :)
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
really like the background music and awesome video
Like your video, you went to one of the fanciest beach, Quintana Roo, México. You'e a thorough camera diver.
Amazing video and even more amazing place :)) so excited to go here next year! Do you have any suggestions of where to stay, best beaches, and best things to do there? Thanks!
this is amazing footage i actually just bought the go pro black edition i was wondering if you could steer me into some key accessorizes that are needed as well as a external mic that could handle concerts and stuff thanks alot man
Dude the shallow water feels like heaven and I'm going there this summer too no joke
Maybe we will see you there!
Mike Gerrie Great video! Do you use a Filter/Lens and a Dive Light on the camera, and if so, wich ones do you use??
Yes I do if you just check the description of the video I include all the links for lights and filters.
Great Video, I hope to dive there some time.
Would be great to have you :)
Cool vid :) how much light did you have?
so much life! soo peaceful! I love my Mexico.
You have a amazing beautiful country !
Hi Mike, Just wondering for Caracolillo and Cedral what was the dive depth
pretty much 35-60 feet .
COZUMEL...!!! AMAZING...!!!
you all probably dont care but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account?
I was dumb lost the password. I love any assistance you can offer me
@Quincy Kristian Instablaster :)
Very cool video. I have a request - in the future can you add a little text to the reefs where this was taken? We dive in Cozumel annually, and it will be nice know where this was taken. Strange how I feel I recognize the marine life.
excellent advice!
So... do they give you the equipment for scuba diving or do you have to go and by them? I mean, the gear alone is crazy expensive!
Yes the place I dive with the equipment is included in the price. Most places charge extra for dive equipment. The only extras you may need to rent are a dive computer and a wetsuit. I have my own dive computer and i don't use a wetsuit
Nice video! The last time I was in Cozumel the reefs' looked pretty beat down. Check out the Bahammas on a Black Beard's cruise.
The reefs are almost completely back to their previous splendor from the Hurricane in 2005. I would love to do a Black Beard Cruise! Going to Bahamas in January to dive with the tigers and lemons of Tiger Beach!
awesome! tell me more about this place! Any recommendations on where to stay?
I stay in a condo rental. But I have also stayed at the Iberostar 3 x stars and was great. I have heard good things about Park Royal and Hotel Cozumel is always a budget stay and close to the diving. A real nice place to stay is The Palace.
Mike, thanks for the reply!

Sorry for the late reply. The footage is anywhere from 30' to 90' and to answer you honestly , no you would not see colour without filter, lights or both. Unless you have the time and patience to do post colour correction in a editing program afterwords.
Wauw, what a wonderfull reef! Do you know some snorkeling places Just near the shore?
Yes the is Corona Beach club and also Money Bar both good snorkel areas.
Mike Gerrie oh thank You!!! Nice video by the way;)
Nice Video, I will be there on July, what video setting did you set on GoPro? I was thinking on Video + pics same time, but the video resolution will be 1080/24fps

Thank you, I would love to dive the Great Barrier Reef someday and thanks for the shout out to Tusa T6 i will check them out!
you leave from cancun? im gonna be there in a week and for sure wanna check out cozumel
I always fly into Cancun first. Much cheaper for me!
excellent video! you've moved mexico to the top of my dive list
did you use a filter on this dive. I have a gopro 3 and I am going to cancun soon. Great video.
Robert Ray yes I did use a filter. it is in the description
Great video, I am planning to travel with my girlfriend who has never dived before. Do they require all divers have OW Certification?.
***** I am glad you asked that question! It was only 4 years ago now and I already have over 500 dives and am cave certified. My first dive was with " Dive with Martin" and I was not certified. Nice video! What program did you use for editing? Did you use a rolling shutter effect? Stabilization?
hey man…what's the soundtracks you are using?
Great video!!
were u using any filters when taking this video
Wow it's a beautiful place
which red filter did you find better to use? also when did you know when to take it on and off?
Hey mike! You met my dad Kirk on the dive with Martin boat! Really impressive work on here, your videos are what made me get a go pro.
LexiLouxoxo Haha, yeah I remember your Dad, great guy. Thanks for the Compliment and enjoy the GoPro!
Great Footage- did you happen to use underwater correction filters for the Go Pro?
Yes, they are in the description.
Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
I love this video 💖👍👍👍
Thank you!
Really Amazing work
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it!
Love that island... Great music along with the footage!!
great video.. peaceful stuff. thank you
You're welcome :)
Thanks for sharing this is so beautiful
How expensive is scuba diving? I actually want to try this sooner then later.
justsomeawesome dude its actually not that expensive. I'd start with a discovery dive if you're not to sure if you want to take the full course. Don't let them talk you into scuba gear until you know if you're going to do a lot of diving. You can rent gear in the meantime. The shop I dive with offers divers free rentals.
You need red filters stat, along with recording in protune and post processing.
so this is with some version of the HERO3 or HERO2? also this not with some of the HERO3+ models ?
I have a lot of more recent footage with the hero3 and Hero3+ but you are correct this is all hero2 stuff.
Hey there Mike i was wondering if it was alright to use 15 seconds of this video in a contest. Thank you
-Nathan
Wonderful stuff! Great shots - I particularly liked the long tracking shot/close ups of the tortuga and the shot of the 2 filefish, going to the 'cuda. A couple of questions: How did you get 16+ minutes to upload to YT? I've been restricted to 10-ish. And do you think the dual Sola 2000s are worth the investment? Would you buy them again for GoPro? Again, well done!!!
Been over 10 years since we dove Cozumel, my daughter was 3, she is 13 and just got her certification. We are going soon!
oh wow, I'm so jealous when I see just how young some are when they first get certified. Some many years of experience ahead of them!!!
hey im planning on cozumel in december also, i see you don't need a wet suit, is that correct?
I'm pretty warm blooded being from the rocky mountains of Canada, lol, and i have a bit of a built in wetsuit as i have some built in insulation ;) But yeah, I find it comfortable enough without a wetsuit.
