Will Alistair Johnston Make Celtic More Robust In Europe? Better Than Juranovic?

- Canadian international Alistair Johnston has now played the full 90mins in 12 of 13 available games since his arrival at Celtic and has firmly established himself as Ange Postecoglou’s go-to right back.
The 24 year old has slotted in seamlessly and is playing a crucial role in the ongoing consistency of the side with the unbeaten run now extending to 24 games.
His predecessor Josip Juranovic left Celtic Park in the summer with everyone’s best wishes, but from what we’ve seen of Johnston, is he more capable of dealing with the challenges that European football has to offer than the Croatian?
With Johnston a more robust and natural defender than Juranovic, will Celtic be better equipped for a crack at next year’s continental competition?

Did anyone notice Johnston's picture-perfect cross to Kyogo in the Cup final? His passing in tight spaces in the final third has already been good, so here's hoping he starts pinging in more crosses like that one.
I love Aj, he has fitted in so well and I like his aggression, he's a got that winning mentality.
Bhoy looks a real player, confident, and has an intensely competitive mindset! Arguably, the most well-spoken Celtic player I've ever seen. Really excited to see what the future holds for him at Celtic 🍀
Anthony ralston as a back up too lads, that’s a cracking RB pair
Yep, great cover!
Great show as always Bhoys☘️👍🏻
Cheers SoS!
AJ has a hockey player mentality. That's what missing from most football players. That means he will shrug off challenges, get in opponents' faces but still remain respectful and courteous.
He's been a phenomenal signing David. Hopefully he can make it back for Cup Final.
A man how will never be sickened of trophies see how he feels when he’s got 20 trophies the new Scot Brown
Cheers Patrick. AJ has been magic!
It’s a simple resolution; JJ played as wing-back type RB (starting much higher up the park), Johnston plays deeper and denies space for the opposition to find, ergo offers enhanced defensive cover.
Juranovic was a great player for us but didn't like the physical side of the game & Johnston is becoming a great player for us & enjoys the physical side of the game
Yeah - I noticed that cross. It was a peach. And, he is a good player, and he will develop.
I also his “spunk” - in not taking any shite from opposition players.
But, he has to learn from that set piece goal that Rangers scored last week. He was partly at fault with that one. Alistair was concentrating too much on his opponent (with his back to the ball for several seconds) rather than first and foremost keeping his eye on the flight of the ball. He could have been involved in meeting that cross and clearing/ heading the ball………………..much earlier than when it fell to Morelos’ feet.
He'll learn.
Ange will make sure of that.
Just a note- Canada don’t play with inverted fullbacks. Johnston plays on the right side of a back 3.
he put the cross in to kyogos head just over
Last year's champions League game. First game against real Madrid 0-0 it was JJ right back cost us the first goal. It was his fault. So hopefully Johnstone sorts it out
Boy is solid just go watch him pick Kent’s pocket who then falls on his face an watch barrisic right after try an wipe him out an ends up getting flattened
Of fuckin course he can why not?
Great player!
