  • This was a game that should have been for the conference championship, just like 1990. Two very good teams were robbed of four of their games due to a four week teachers strike. After a scoreless first quarter, Elgin scored on an eight yard run by Donny Johnson with 8:39 left in the second quarter, Enrico LaPrairie adding the extra point kick. Elgin made it 14-0 after D'Andree Bartee ran it in from the one at 2:29 of the second with the kick being good again. Larkin got back in the game on a Casey Wagner 35 yard pass to Kendrick Thomas with 4:02 left in the third quarter, and Pooh White caught a pass for two and Larkin was only down 14-8. Larkin had three chances to pull it out, even getting to Elgin's 16, but Elgin's defense held each time. Elgin had completely shut down Thomas, holding him to only 32 yards rushing. Thomas had rushed for over 200 yards the other four games he got to play.
