My dude bro, Mega Man 2 is my absolute fave of all the Mega Mans. I went hard into this game, renting it from Blockbuster on weekends. Finally beat it after a bunch of trial and error in the Wiley levels. I will make the bold statement that this is the best Mega Man soundtrack, all games, all platforms. It’s also on my Top 5 NES game soundtracks. Top Number One Best Track of MM2??? Quickman. Just exceptional 8 bit wall of musical sound. It was summer vacation 1990 something, borrowed this game from a friend, and probably stunted my growth from lack of sleep by playing it all night every night during the time I had it. Got to the end of the roller track stage only to be stonewalled, literally by the game not letting you have enough Crash Man energy to break the blocks and to kill the globes on the wall. It wasn't until my friend told me that there was no choice but to let the globes kill me, start at the respawn and refill Crash Man, go back in, and then the walls I broke would still be broken and give me access to all of globes.
That's the worst part of MM2 and seems like it doesn't fiit with the rest of the game. It's a puzzle that iis timed unless you are really good at dodging the shots. Hey thanks for watching and commenting!
Mega Man 3 was the first one that I rented / played. Instantly fell in love and bought 1-4 before upgrading to the Super SNES Nintendo and Mega Man X. Mega Man 3 & 4 tie for my favorites on the NES. Mega Man 3 has the best sound track, with 2 close behind. 4 is no slouch though.

Again, no mention of Takashi Nishiyama, but instead as always, Keiji Inafune gets more credit than he deserves. Kitamura and Nishiyama created MM, not Kitamura and Inafune. Kitamura being the director and Nishiyama being the producer. And Nishiyama has a much stronger legacy than Inafune does and has been in the business longer than him as well having first started off at Irem where he created Moon Patrol and Kung-Fu Master, and then after he left Capcom he joined SNK where he created Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting and King of Fighters, and then eventually years later co-founded DIMPS.
First of all, thank you. I'm glad finally somebody acknowledges that Akira Kitamura as the real father of Mega Man. You have no idea how many people are misinformed and think Keiji Inafune is the one who created him. It's just like the whole Bill Finger/Bob Kane fiasco but for the Blue Bomber rather than the Caped Crusader. For that reason alone, I'm willing to overlook the minor errors made in this video such as certain mispronunciations (e.g. Z, and Matsumae) Secondly, I'm glad that Mega Man 2 is getting the recognition it deserves. Sure, some might argue it's overrated but without its existence, we wouldn't even have the Mega Man series as a whole, especially considering the first one was a flop. It's also what got me into the series since I only knew of Mega Man's existence through Marvel Vs. Capcom beforehand. Also, props for getting the original artist of the MM2 box art for an interview. I can tell a lot of work went into making this. Fun fact: Mega Man was supposed to change helmets a la Ninja Captor when absorbing the Robot Master's powers, but due to NES limitations this wasn't possible, however this concept was revisited with Mega Man 11.
Wow thank you for the kind words and I can telll you are a huge Mega Man fan. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and that I did the series justice as this game is also one of my favorties and I love Capcom. Not saying some of the names right is my mistake and I meant no disrespect to tthe artists. I did the best I could :) Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and watch!

Truly a legendary game. Too many superlatives to mention. The replayability and soundtrack are just a few to mention. The difficulty wasn't bad and the time it took to finish was reasonable even for then, plus you had the password system
Still my favorite in the series. The perfect diiffiiculty plus a harder one iif the default is too easy. Metal Man for the win! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Excellent video, Jay. I've played the first Mega Man way back in the day and just lost interest as I thought it was very hard to play, so I never played Mega Man 2. I may need to give it a second chance. Anyways, keep up with the great content. Cheers!!
@JayBartlett1975 No problem, I appreciate you taking my comment in good faith. I love this game so I clicked on the video, but this was the first thing I noticed. As a content creator myself, I recognize the difficulty of balancing a focus on the content while making the presentation of it most palatable without getting lost in the role of editor. Content creation is more difficult than many people realize. I'm about 50 videos in, and my skills are still pretty fairly amateur. Good luck to you on your UA-cam journey, friend!
First time I played it was when I was about 5 or 6 when Mega Man 1 first came out it bought it at kiddie city with Birthday Money. Mega Man was my FAVORITE Game and still is!. The new Jada Mega Man figures rock!. I have all the Mega Mans still for nes except for Mega Man 5. And I still play them.

When I got my nes my neighbor said he had some games he's selling cheap. I bought 2 games for $10. I don't remember what one of them was but the other was Mega Man. I really got into it and shortly after 2 came out and I got it. I told my neighbor I got Mega Man 2 and he said, "wow they made a 2?" And now there's 11 😁 (besides the 120ish others)
I used to tape Megaman music on cassette tapes in 92 because I only owned MM4 and enjoyed the music so much so wed have a little show and talk and be dumb 90s kids lol how I wish we could go back. I finally beat my first Megaman which was Megaman 6 at 11 years old and was the biggest accomplishment for me besides beating Ganon in OG Zelda at that time
That is so cool! I remember kinda doing the same with the music. I use to also pretend I was a radio DJ lol. Mega Man 6 is amazing and finishing the firrst Zelda is still no easy task. Thanks forr watching my video and commenting!
@JayBartlett1975 Yeah it evolved to several of us radio DJing while we played games and do fake commercial spots. Probably wouldve killed it if theres was stuff like YT and Twitch back then but its funny to see how many actually did the same thing I thought I was the only one that did that until a few years ago
@@JayBartlett1975 haha yeah, I just mean in keeping with naming them after their weapons! Air man = air blasty thing, metal man = metal gears, bubble man = bubbles, etc though I guess that doesn't fit for a lot of them like Quick Man, Heat Man, etc... hmm, ok my 1989 self gives up!
haha its almost the same for me but mine was megaman 2 the sleek metal guy boxart lured me in end never let me go...i still consider MM2 the best game ever
14:52 no, the box art is not the most recognizable , not everyone is american. I live in South Africa and thank God we had the proper box art and proper name , rockman. Those ameican covers are disgusting , even the video of the guy explaining why box art 2 has a pistol.. who cares , it still hideous! I'd say it's prretty close to perfect as well. A masterpiece. I miss sharring games like we use to as well.
My friends who lived behind me would trade games with me for the weekend, that's how I first played Castlevania on NES.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I loved these games. Grew up playing them especially MM2 and 3 for NES..
Nearrly perfect games for sure and ones that still hold up today.
Thanks for commenting and checking out my content!
Z, and Matsumae)
Secondly, I'm glad that Mega Man 2 is getting the recognition it deserves.
I did the best I could :)
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and watch!
Great video sir, love the content. Cheers for helping keep the retro alive 🤘🇨🇦🤘
Thank you for watching, II'll check out your channel :)
Absolutely love this game. It's a game I can pick up and play anytime and have a absolute blast. The games music is nothing but bangers. Wily castle stage 1 and Airmans stage are my personal favorites.
Nice picks and I'd have to agree! The music iis so important to me iin everything another reason this game is so good! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment
I love the Minibosses rendition of Bubbleman's stage.
I have to check that out! Thank you for watching and commenting!
I contemplated the mega man 2 box art many times as a kid, trying to understand how the in game version is holding a gun.
Thankfully Mark explains in the video. Thank you for watching!
Great video! I love this game and its music so much! Can’t wait for the Jada toys from this one
Man I'm looking for the Jada toys and can't find anything! They are an awesome toy company. I have a few of the Street Fighter figures.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Awesome video. The history of gaming but specifically Mega Man is one all who loves video games should know.
Hey mate thanks for saying that! Glad you enjoyed it dude :)
Killer video as always, brother!
Awe thanks brother!
8:00 “The results are infamous and they speak for themselves.” 😂
Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Excellent video, Jay. I've played the first Mega Man way back in the day and just lost interest as I thought it was very hard to play, so I never played Mega Man 2. I may need to give it a second chance. Anyways, keep up with the great content. Cheers!!
Thanks mate! Yes, you need to give Mega Man 2 a spin trust me!
pal box art is actually incredible.
It is great iisn't it! Love all three designs! Thanks for watching
Probably my favorite NES game of all time.
It's up there for me too! Thank you for watching!
The plosives on your audio make this video unwatchable for me.
I didn't notice, sorry about that.
9 minutes in. Finally began talking about mega Man 2.
Thanks for watching!
Incredible music, incredible game. I was the first person in my neighborhood to buy this game. Still I must admit Mega Man 3's music was better.
Interesting. Many has said that MM 3's music is better. Either way they are all bbangers! And thank you for watching my friend :)
For all that praise of the game's sales it still didn't sell as many copies as Atari's E.T. did.
Few games did lol.
Thanks for watching mate!
Amazing. I'm on the hunt for the Jada figures. They are super hard to find here in Canada, and ebay prices are way too much. I do love them though!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Still the best Mega Man; that end scene still brings all the feels.
Same, 100%. The music, the gameplay, just the way the game makes me feel when I play it.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
imo the greatest video game ever made. also the most replayable.
Agreed! Top 10 of all-time
Thanks for watching!
Lol that's awesome! Thank you for sharing, annd yes there are a ton of Mega Man games besides the main line ones!
Appreciate you watching.
@JayBartlett1975 love Mega Man. I even had a drawing in Nintendo Power on a Enemy Robot contest 😂
cbr
0:29 I think that the box art of megaman 1 was inspired from Tron; an awesome film from 1982
Amazing. I never thought of that until I read your comment, and it makes so much sense. Thanks for watching mate!
~3:40 If someone can recreate the US box art from the dotted megaman, the person must have possessed an extraordinary creativity.
Indeed! Thank you so much for watching!
If you haven't heard of them, check out a band called Bit Brigade. They do the entire mega man 2 game and it's awesome
Alright I'll check them out sounds awesome! Thank you for commenting!
I'm 35 years late to asking this question, but wouldn't "Leaf Man" have been a more apt name for Wood Man?
Maybe Wood Man seems more of a tougher name for a Robot Master?
@@JayBartlett1975 haha yeah, I just mean in keeping with naming them after their weapons! Air man = air blasty thing, metal man = metal gears, bubble man = bubbles, etc though I guess that doesn't fit for a lot of them like Quick Man, Heat Man, etc... hmm, ok my 1989 self gives up!
Best nes game of all time
Thanks for commenting! Agreed
Megaman 2 is the best 🤖
100%! Cheers and thanks for watching
I gotta suggest investing in a pop filter and eq a little low end out of your narration
Noted! Thanks for watching!
So many citations needed. But otherwise, very nicely done
Thanks for watching!
Gen X was always the best😏
We have lived through the entire history of Video Games, it's pretty amazing!
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Is this the ending credits with megaman 2 walking , just wondering?
Yes sir!
Inafune is more like...the stepdad that stepped up
He ran with it that's for sure! Thanks for watching!
haha its almost the same for me but mine was megaman 2 the sleek metal guy boxart lured me in end never let me go...i still consider MM2 the best game ever
Ah so you had the box box art where you are, so cool. i want to find that version some day
Thanks for watching and commentinig!
Byron ON?
Yes sir!
Please get a better microphone and/or a pop filter.
14:52 no, the box art is not the most recognizable , not everyone is american. I live in South Africa and thank God we had the proper box art and proper name , rockman. Those ameican covers are disgusting , even the video of the guy explaining why box art 2 has a pistol.. who cares , it still hideous! I can imagine the game creators vomiting a little in their mouth when seeing it.
Thanks for commenting, we all have our opinions on it for sure. I think the story behind why it's like that is really interesting thats all. It's an infamous cover, like the NA first game.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Please promptly procure a pop filter, pal!
Thanks for watching!
Lets be clear... mm2s sound track is NOT some of the best music ing gaming history. Its some of the best music. Hard stop. Like. Ever. Listen to an orchestra play it.🙂
Well you are absolutly correct and Ii have. Chills and tears when listening to it when it's with a live orchestra. Thank you for wacthing and commennting!
"section Zed" Your fellow canadian-ness is showing (I assume cuz I don't hear an english accent) 🤣😂🤣
I am Canadian :) Thanks for watching mate
damn... haha why is that box art so bad?
There is an interview with the artist in this video that explains
dude your microphone/vocal mixing is bad. you're all kinds of poppy and breathy, even get a zoom h1 and you'll be sorted if you just set the levels right. sounds like you're talking through a bad Mcdonalds cashier headset from 1988.
Appreciate the advice!
@@JayBartlett1975 no probs. I dig the content of course! just would improve massively with a good mix on your vocals/commentary.
"wow..."
Thanks for watching!
