Thanks for the informative and rational analysis. I spent about half an hour in the Apple Store, comparing the glossy and nano side-by-side with various content. I went into the store, thinking the nano would not be worthwhile. But after viewing at various angles, the reduction in glare from the store lights was undeniable. I ended up ordering the nano texture with the M4 pro chip and I'm waiting for delivery.

Mac won’t work for gaming, still. Perhaps in the future, and at that point maybe the Pro makes sense. To be honest, if you’re only editing photos as a power task and it’s not your career where you’re doing it in large numbers, the M4 base model is more than fine. If you want to splurge or have room for it to last for five years, get the high end M4 Pro.
The heaviest task I would do would be editing video. Only really suggesting to get the m4 pro is for the 24Gb of ram. worth it? or is the base 16gb ram enough? Looking to upgrade my 2015 MBP has had enough.
I recently got the M4 Pro 14", and I love it so far. I came from the base M1 Pro 16". My 16" never made a peep during heavy loads, and I never heard the fan once. My new 14" on the other hand has triggered the fan a number of times under load, and I'm still trying to get used to it, lol.

Hi, thank you for that amazing content! One question from me maybe two. As a UI designer every little shade for me counts. I'm currently running on an OLED Dell XPS 15 for 4 years, and I'm wondering whether to get the nano texture or the regular one. But what puzzles me even more is whether 24gb or 48gb will be suitable for me. Can you help? This will be my first product from Apple.... :) Thank you 🙏🏼
Hey! Good questions! I think the nanotexture is for sure the way to go for creatives. I do not see a material decrease in quality. In practical use, I argue that it provides a better image because there isn't a glare from every little thing. As for 24GB or 48GB, the reality is that most people will be fine with 24GB and Apple even designed their laptops in a way that will utilize the SSD for additional RAM when needed. Obviously, it's best to use the RAM proper rather than a mixture, but you have that as an option. Depending on how intense your designs are, the amount of assets and layers being utilized, the resolution, etc., 48GB may be helpful, but that's something you'd have to ponder. At worst, you spend extra on something you won't need now but will certainly provide headroom over the upcoming years as programs become more demanding and your skills and needs increase.
Yeah from the keynote I thought the same. I think this anti-glare display is the real deal, everything else comes second. It's like Samsung's S23 Ultra display thing. Makes you wish every other laptop adopts it.
Oh, yeah. I love the anti-glare on the S24 Ultra. It's amazing. I have a feeling they have an exclusivity with Corning on that for a little, but I hope it opens up to other smartphones and devices in the upcoming years.
I have a privacy screen for my macbook pro which is matte color. I don't use it for reflection purposes but just for privacy in public places like a coffee shop. It definetely does reduce reflections but i still prefer to use the computer without any screen at home. I have never experienced the nano texture in person though so i will probably check it out at some apple store before making a decision.
Thanks, I have both on my shopping bag and I will go pro instead of max since I only do LrC/ Ps which are less demanding than video so instead I put a 4 Tb ssd… And yes, nano for me
Man I must be a rare opinion on the nano texture. I saw it in the Apple Store and wasn’t a fan of the subtle but noticeable diffusion on black levels and contrasts. I think you prefer it over your M1 Max glossy because it’s not as bright. But with the new m4s, the screens are generally brighter with or without the nano textures.
@@ThisIsTechToday i tried to recreate an actual desk situation so the displays were mostly upright with a slight tilt up. i think the nano texture works well by taking the light glare and dispersing it across the display, where as the glare on the normal glossy remains solid where it hits but the rest of the screen stays inky black and punchy. for me its a bit of a trade off. maximum productivity with the nano texture but anytime theres a light, it will soften the image a bit (tho slight) vs having unfettered punchy image with the glossy but have to be ok with ignoring the opaque light glares when they appear. Another thing that threw off wanting the nano texture was finding out that you need a "special" kind of microfiber cloth. i have hard enough time keeping clothes around me to clean my screen, itll be even harder to keep a special high end cloth with me to clean the nano texture. tbh tho thats more on me, im a filthy person when it comes to my screens
Yeah, I think you're describing a situation that isn't the usual. It shouldn't be diffusing across the display that much in normal situations. You have it angled too far up.
Use it not in the store in a normal environment with it tilted slightly up like you normally would. Apple stores have an insane amount of light everywhere intentionally to make things top lit. That's not usual.
I do mini films 4k around 5 minute each, do u think the base model 10 core 16gb is enough or should I get the m4 pro, I am broke student but I don’t want to spend twice.
You can definitely make it through with the base model, yeah. I think if you can stretch it, go for the Pro, but it's not like you won't be able to edit on the base model.
I am always blown away that an inch and a half and less than 2 pounds is really such a thing. Once I’m at a Hotel, I am so happy to feel the extra screen space.
I'm so over that. I have no issues using the 14" and editing off of it. I'm doing it now on a plane and I love how small it is. The 16" was a burden while traveling.
Just be careful if you’re considering nano texture and watch the Jerry rig everything video. The displays scratch far more easily for negligible benefits unless you’re in a very sunny place all the time. If he was more objective I'd respect his videos more, but he has a lot of double standards and pushes Apple products harder than others. It gets views though, so I guess that's the game. But yeah, you're going to experience an incredible improvement from Intel. It'll feel like you've been climbing up hill while dragging a legion of toddlers running everywhere behind you. @@ThisIsTechToday the review will inherently be biased, as will all of your videos. Unless they are peer reviewed and objective studies of a product. But even then there's scope for bias. Yeah, I’d upgrade to the top end version and then have at least 1TB if not 2TB of storage. You may benefit from the high end M4 Max for motion graphics design, but I’d only do that if you do it as a career and make money off of it.
It would be interesting to compare the nano texture from Apple and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra anti glare. I think the latter may fare better since it’s not textured.
You can find plenty of those tests elsewhere. I don't need to "do more." I'm not here to convince you of anything either. I also don't agree wit 16" being "king." It's a preference. Chill.
@ yeah sure… nice presentation… I went to Apple Store here in Munich and I compared the 2 side by side and besides reflection the glassy display is way better to me. Anyways it’s like taste so no need argue 🤗😉
Absolutely slays them. They're inefficient, power hogs and heat generators and M4 can do better than them off the plug without drawing so much power. It is really sad how far behind they are. 😂
What a great review, but even in your comparison, the standard glossy display looks better than the nano texture option (at least to my eyes). The nano-texture seems to add some foggy reflections which give it a kinda plasticky look that I don’t like … but I heard there is some QD tech in the new displays, I wonder if that applies only to nano-texture and if that is the reason that up-close there is some difference in apparent dynamic range. Either way, maybe I should see it person as you suggested.
@@ThisIsTechToday it’s far from a dealbreaker for me, but I do find it strange that the base model iphone released before these laptops has better spec’d wifi. And it’s purely specs, since the iphone won’t do MLO nor MCS13, which are the main wifi7 benefits, but are optional :)
Heavy plugins and things like magic mask bring all apple silicon to their knees.... integrated graphics is still integrated graphics, sadly a windows laptop with a dedicated 4090 would run circles around all apple silicon in effects.
Not exactly. It's mostly Resolve and how it deals with Text for some reason, especially with plugins from this company. Other plugins work just fine. Otherwise, it's more powerful and FAR MORE efficient than a 4090.

Exactly. The depreciation curve is accelerating.
Should I get the M4 12-core pro or M4 14-core pro? Or does it not matter?
I'd definitely go with the 14 Core.
@ why?
@@Wunderkindddfor 14 inc 12c/16g for 16 inc 16c/20g (and only one m4 pro).
I want them to bring nano texture to the iPhone
It would be interesting to compare the nano texture from Apple and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra anti glare. I think the latter may fare better since it’s not textured.
should have performed more tests, resolve alone doesnt convince me as M1 Max owner, sorry. Also 16“ is king.
You can find plenty of those tests elsewhere. I don't need to "do more." I'm not here to convince you of anything either. I also don't agree wit 16" being "king." It's a preference. Chill.
You gotta be kidding me. The M4 is insane for the price lol
The nano can not be better in display than the glassy one except on reflecktion LOL
Did we watch the same video?
@ yeah sure… nice presentation… I went to Apple Store here in Munich and I compared the 2 side by side and besides reflection the glassy display is way better to me. Anyways it’s like taste so no need argue 🤗😉
Disagree. Use it not in a store.
They need build IPS instead of nano texture.
NO
Apple new M4 chip destroys intel and AMD in content creation.
@@JayzBeerz Destroy is an extremely strong word buddy
Absolutely slays them. They're inefficient, power hogs and heat generators and M4 can do better than them off the plug without drawing so much power. It is really sad how far behind they are. 😂
I'm using a Chromebook plus laptop 💻
lol, then this would be overkill. 😅
You're looking at the extreme situations that I was intentionally getting. It's all about the angle.
Disk speed is also bad.
Nonsense.
No Wifi 7 : No buy !
cry harder
I mean, sure, if you find any or have any WiFi 7 access points. That seems like a nit picky thing to make as a deal breaker.
@@ThisIsTechToday it’s far from a dealbreaker for me, but I do find it strange that the base model iphone released before these laptops has better spec’d wifi.
And it’s purely specs, since the iphone won’t
do MLO nor MCS13, which are the main wifi7 benefits, but are optional :)
Am I first?? NOPE!
Oh, but you are lol
@ThisIsTechToday lol. I said it just in case 😇
if you really want to be able to use Divinci or other editing software ... use a PC.
No.
