start with his "Sword drill: Intermediate technical exercises", then it gets easier! also dont use a long stick, but a thick handle that has a small pointing blade to start the exercises, less risk of accidental hitting yourself or something else!

I imagine it's so you train the ability to interrupt your own strikes, in case you see your opponent attacking into your attack. Helps to eliminate doubles.

Shortened cuts like Zwirch and Schielhau are perfect strikes for close combat situation. Also in a close distance the thread comes more from above. These strikes have a good protection element in addition.
