- In this video I am showing how I form the fused frit piles from Part 1 into flowers using a variety of molds and chalk (yes, chalk!) Later I plan to epoxy the flowers to stems made of glass cane that I pulled. The steps to attach to the stems are not in this video, but I hope to create another one soon showing my setup for doing so. I do have a video on creating the stems using a vitrigtaph kiln. That video is available here:

Castalot material - best to try to find this locally just due to the weight, but it is available online, here is one site currently listing it:

Chalk used was purchased at a local Dollar Tree. Look in the Easter section in spring as they are typically with the items for filling baskets. You can try their website although at the time of this video it shows out of stock:

As always, thank you for watching!
Jackie - THANK YOU AGAIN for another great video. I learn so much from your videos and I’m so thankful that you take the time to make them and share with us glass newbies! Your talent just amazes me!
Really good learnings here! Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome, thanks Jamaison!
love how these turned out!!!
love this project!
Thank you!
Fantastic video, thank you!
Thank you and you’re so welcome!
Thank you so much. 😀
You’re very welcome!
Beautiful flowers... can't wait to try the technique... thanks so much for sharing! You said you shut the kiln off to reach in and push the molds aside... how do you then deal with the glass having to anneal?
What did you use when you made your small moulds ? And please can you do a part 3 showing how to attach stems as I’m a complete beginner based in uk
Hi Lesley, the small one was made of Castalot and then the smallest pieces were draped over chalk. Since you are in the UK you might want to check out Warm Glass UK. They have Castalot on their website: warm-glass.co.uk/castalot-casting-plaster-p-2627.html
Also, I’ll see what I can do to put together one on attaching stems. I’m going to try to work on them this coming weekend. Thank you for watching and for your interest!
Thank you for sharing I am always learning something for your videos Thanks FullMoonLoon
You’re so welcome and thank you!
why do you use two layers of paper beneath and over the flowers to press? I know one is shelf paper (like papyrus) but I'm not sure what to purchase for the layer you called 'fiber paper'. Can you send me a link to that product, please? Thank you. I can't wait to try this.
Hi Diana. I have a giant roll of 1mm ceramic fiber that that I got really cheap. I think if you kiln washed your shelf really well (a few coats) you might be able to just use one layer of Papyros (one on bottom and one over glass) without the fiber. I didn’t use ThinFire as it tends to really break down to powder when fired whereas the Papyros stays more intact.
Excuse the sarcasm, is Zip a good idea now?
Do you coat your chalk with anything or use fiber paper
Hi Cindy, no I don’t put anything on the chalk. I’ve yet to have anything stick to chalk, and there’s so many ways you can use it!
Hi there, could you possibly share your firing schedule? Thanks in advance
Hi Brenda, it’s right at the end of the video, around the 24:30 mark or so.
Is castalot the same as plaster of paris?
Hi Renee. No, it’s not the same from what I understand. I’ve never worked with plaster of Paris but it would not hold up for repeated use like this does. Hope that helps!
I really enjoyed watching this video, please make more!! You need to research P R O M O S M!!
Thank you! Sorry for the delay in replying, what is promosm? I’ll look it up.
