i had mine changed today, unfortunately i got the seal kit for models before 2003 from the dealer, now it spits oil out of the air filter ... i used rockerbox gaskets from james gasket, do you think they have to be replaced when i remove the cover ? to replace the gaskets from the breather ? thanks
Make sure to blow or swab out that blind hole in the head for the breather bolts are the pressure buildup by torquing the bolt will blow out the bottom of the head. That hydraulic pressure will be way too much before reaching the torque spec.
This is probably something a bit more than I would feel comfortable doing. You pointed out rusty bolts. Is that something you should think about changing? Since you have them out?
awesome walk through on a very widespread issue. Thanks dude!
Thanks. I figured it was time to address this problem. To be honest. The first time in a while to fix it and show everyone.
First time watching a vid from you, good stuff. Just hit subscribe and hit that bell
Thank you. And welcome to our channel. I post new videos every Sunday. However this Sunday, I will not be. As I am in Tennessee for the TMMR event.
Great info as always.
Thank you Mr.Gremlin.
Outstanding!!! Gave me the confidence to do it myself!
Awesome. Nothing like the satisfaction 9f doing it you're self and saving that $$$
Any tips on gas tank removal other than the obvious, empty tank, don't drop it?
@marcpar2587 just drain the fuel and remove. Don't forget to unplug the connector for the fuel gage.
Awesome video as always my friend
Like flipping of the torque wrench with the dog bone on it. 👍
Just a small technique I learned and wanted to share. Simple but affective

I always replace gaskets and seals. Never reuse them.

That is such a true statement thank you.
Good deal. Explains why I'd pay a pro to do it, thanks!
It's always good to know your limitations.
Did this last year when I installed new cam chain tensioners on my 2004 Softail.
That's a perfect time to do them.

Not really. It's only cosmetic at this point. If the structural integrity of those, I would recommend replacing them.
You forgot both gaskets for breathers. Is there a reason for that?
Both gaskets are installed. They are preinstalled within the kit. I apologize for not showing that.
Great video. I would do this on my 16 Softail Slim S.
Good idea. The total cost in parts is less than 100..
The math on that is pretty easy.
Torque x short / the long= new
Yes it is. However not doing math is easier

This is a good time to do rocker lockers?
Yes sir. It's open. Perfect time
