Once upon a time I had a long-term temporary internship at PM Magazine in Hartford while I was finishing up my BA. I was there for 8 months and got to do a ton of things including working for a TV anchor as well as the hosts and content director. Good fun it was. So glad to see this piece of history.
Love stories about baby broadcasters. I was only about a dozen years into my 48 year career at that time. I was a radio/TV engineer. The ultimate job for shy broadcasters.
I had to work on Saturdays for years, so I heard his show after work in my car on my way home. Car Talk was on around my lunch time. That was great, too. I kind of wish GK had not started making political statements towards the end of his time on air. His PHC shows were usually pretty timeless, if I remember correctly, unless vaguely timely, it seemed.
Nothing much has replaced his Saturday show. He's a hard act to follow.
Why i pick a rerun online every week at 6 to listen to again. I miss live radio so much though.
This just made my day. Seeing a young, bearded, loose and lanky Garrison is so much fun.

I have listened to him for decades but I didn't realize he already had a large crowd in 1979.
Coolest tv intro I’ve ever seen.
When I first heard him in the early 80s, I thought who is this guy who just never stops talking? Then I kept listening for 30+,years...

In my neighborhood.

Didn't even recognize him!
