I'm no stylist, but I've done my hair like this for a few years. The problems seem to be in the weight of your fringe and the flow of the crown's spikes mixing in with the front and sides. Alot of scene cuts have thin, razored fringes in the bang, lower back and sides, Also, layering is all-over, including the bang. Some tease the bangs a tad to fit in with their spikes, and more layers towards the front help with the flow. The main problem I believe is the amount of weight you left in the front, more specifically by the ears. It sort of bobs which is a definite "no" for these alternative hairstyles. I would just thin the sides out more, and have a direction with your spikes. Don't know if my advice is credible, but maybe it'll help? Also, try avoiding a part, especially in mens' hair. the side sweey from ear-to-ear is sort of what makes this style.
Haha that cracked me up. But I guess they look more sharper, also the request you get are crazy lol......Do Nikki Sixx!?? Mötley Crüe is done so why not?
My boyfriend has always wanted this haircut, but never knew how to tell a stylist to do it so it was always done wrong. Thank you for teaching me, so that now I can do it myself!
You probably dont give a shit but does anyone know of a way to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot the password. I would love any assistance you can give me!
I love how you get back to almost all of your commentators no matter how a-holeish. This is a very good tutorial. one of the best I've seen. Like you said, it can vary, like more wight/less weight or spikeyness. but it shows the basics of that popular hairstyle layering and techniques. My boyfriend has been trying to get the hairstyle and nobody will cut it the correct way. I may just cut it for him since i've been cutting my own for a few years as well as a few of my friends. nice work!
I JUST posted a new men's one and will be working on 2 more live models this week. I do have a bunch of human models though just sort through my hair tutorial vids.
im doing a totally different style than this but i clicked bc the choppiness on the top is exactly what i want and the way you showed how to do it was great. looks fun too, cant wait to try it with my kitchen scissors haha
I've had experiences with trying to get a good emo/scene haircut at salons and barbershops and they always end up horrifying. That's why i started doing my own hair, but this is really good!
Wow you did great where r u located I need to take my boyfriend to get his hair cut by u. I've had 100s people cut his hair but no one ever gets it right. TheSalonGuy
I wouldn't say this is a fail just cause it doesn't look like you or an exact version of what you call it scene hair. The problem is there are 9 million opinions on this hairstyle. I have also cut like 9 million variations just so happens this one you saw and wasn't a fan of. I appreciate you checking it out at least bro.
this is really nice, they need more guides like this for this kind of hairstyle. I think that the ends in the front could have been layered a bit more, but you did an amazing job :D
Really enjoyed your style version cuts! I just cut my own hair using your techniques and turned my style into a versatile "punk? shag" cut. I cut off approximately 3". My head feels lighter and love the layered texture cutting techniques you show! !
i think that the side opposite from the fringe should have been more choppy and downward cut like you did the layers ... the fringe also needs a little texture .other than that i am am enjoying your tutorials and hands on stuff .. it is really helping me out .. because i too enjoy cutting hair and wish to be a hair dresser.. are you a professional ,if so how long did it take you and what do you have to do to become one
not emo enuf for you I guess? Dude I could cut like 50 heads with various styles. I have seen tons of variations with looks even like this one. This isn't the ONLY cut out there but even if I styled it differently it's a sick cut.
Great Job! I used to teach at Paul Mitchell. Are you a Paul Mitchell guy? You should certainly be teaching. I enjoyed that. My daughter is looking at a similar look so I was researching cuts similar. I don't think she will wear it as spikey, but I appreciated seeing how you styled it and showing the products you used to make it happen. I can't wait to show both of my daughters.
8:59 i cant wrap my mind around this part... is this part just random cutting or is there a bit more of a method that im not seeing... tutorial has made sense so far. great video.
How would cut this haircut on a woman who has long hair and wants to keep the length in the back? Also are you over directing the hair in the front to the middle or how are are yo over directing the hair
When it comes to the sides of the haircut it looks untouched, they should be more shaped like a more pointy edge look. The razor tool helps out with that a lot instead of just running it through the persons hair. However the layering was done very well but when it comes down to the sides, bangs, and back of the hair it should be handled with a razor tool to make it shaped like a triangle so that way by slinging your hair towards the other direction it will all be in place, So you don't part it.
I liked it i have a lot of respect for guys in the cosmetology industry i was going to school for it till my dad pulled me out of it :/ keep up the good work man
hello i have some questions with this i really like the back part of it so i showed my mom the video and let her do it but she cant get it right the bottom part is 2 long and can you give me an idea how long is the hair on the back because it look like it goes from top long to bottom short she aint getting it
i love the videof but the main-problem about haircuts like this on me is my receding hairline.. no matter how i do my hair.. you can always see them.. i tried to fix my hair with hairspray to hide them.. but it won't work like i want it to.. how can i avoid this, any suggestions? ^^ + thumbs up and subscribed you ^^
this is a great amazing tuitorial :D ... but as far as emo goes, i think this is leaning more towards punk or skater... emo haircuts tend to be shorter in back i believe, and maybe a little shorter on the left side... still an amazing haircut tho, great texture and look :) great job
I am so tired of the emo hate lol so I WILLLLLLL nail this friggin Emo cut one day so the depression ends!!!

You probably dont give a shit but does anyone know of a way to log back into an instagram account??
I stupidly forgot the password. I would love any assistance you can give me!
@Brayden Bjorn instablaster :)
Thanks Trevor. Why do you feel it's bad? Do you cut hair? Is it the way I styled it? Is it not emo enough for you? Thx for the feedback man.
Did anyone else find this really relaxing to watch?

I love how you get back to almost all of your commentators no matter how a-holeish. This is a very good tutorial. one of the best I've seen. I JUST posted a new men's one and will be working on 2 more live models this week. I do have a bunch of human models though just sort through my hair tutorial vids.
There are like 20 variations of style I could do but thx man
im doing a totally different style than this but i clicked bc the choppiness on the top is exactly what i want and the way you showed how to do it was great. looks fun too, cant wait to try it with my kitchen scissors haha
This same cut can be done on a woman. Not too much overdirecting goes on, maybe towards the front face framing.
thx
Just leave the length in the front buddy. Kinda disconnect the front from the top.
gotchu
This actually kind of looks like anime hair.
emo/scene hair does look like anime hair
I've had experiences with trying to get a good emo/scene haircut at salons and barbershops and they always end up horrifying. That's why i started doing my own hair, but this is really good!

Hey man, I like it. if the hair was black it would kinda look like Billie Joe Armstrong's hair (when his hair was longer)
+Chase Sanity As a matter of fact, this hairstyle does look like Billie's !
Only if you give me a virtual hug
I want my hair like that!!!

Are the shears that you are using, sharp? Sounds as if they cut with a certain noise that is very noticeable.
It was definately more scene but still good looking.
straight is better
I am a former Paul MItchell guy yes. Thanks sooooo muchhhhh!!!

People in the comments are so nice
It's not like you're a professional stylist or anything
How would cut this haircut on a woman who has long hair and wants to keep the length in the back? Also are you over directing the hair in the front to the middle or how are are yo over directing the hair
Could you do one like this but for a girl?

Ivan's eyes terrify me
you have no fringe in the front,it's more side swept and in a right angle just look up some photos and they all have it.
How long is the hair on the sides?
I heart you!
hello i have some questions with this i really like the back part of it
so i showed my mom the video and let her do it but she cant get it right
the bottom part is 2 long and can you give me an idea how long is the hair on the back because it look like it goes from top long to bottom short she aint getting it
anywhere from 1 1/2 - 2 inches out from the head.
i love the videof but the main-problem about haircuts like this on me is my receding hairline.. no matter how i do my hair.. you can always see them.. i tried to fix my hair with hairspray to hide them.. but it won't work like i want it to..
how can i avoid this, any suggestions? ^^ + thumbs up and subscribed you ^^
good introduction and explaining
this is a great amazing tuitorial :D ... but as far as emo goes, i think this is leaning more towards punk or skater... emo haircuts tend to be shorter in back i believe, and maybe a little shorter on the left side... still an amazing haircut tho, great texture and look :) great job
my hair lady fucked my hair up..my bangs are like..weird..wish I had a salon person like you xD
i really like this ... i need to find one that is a emo girl hair style
